Thought I was imagining a warmer display until I came here.

Gonna spend some time with it. Watched some OLED burn-in videos on YT side-by-side with my 11 Pro and my initial reaction is that the 12 Pro just has a different white balance, making it feel more calibrated.

I may feel differently in a week. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Guys I swear the phone just recalibrated on its own and the brightness is completely fine and even better on the 12 than 11 while the difference was staggering just a minute ago with the 11 being much brighter.

Different issue. Your phone probably got warm while transferring data and reduced peak brightness temporarily. If the tint matched the 11, you never had this issue to begin with.

Nah. It doesn’t. If it’s different then it’s wrong. Take it back if you don’t like it

I received my 12 Pro this morning and instantly noticed the yellow tint. I was hoping turning off the True Tone would help but it didn’t.

I just came back from my local Apple store and surprisingly all 3 other Pro’s I checked were the same or worse (dimmer). Therefore I have decided not to play the screen lottery. I’ll see if I can get used to it in the next 13 days. If not, I’ll just return it.

Here is a pic comparing it to my wife’s XS (12 Pro on the left, XS to the right).

The left screen is more balanced... not perfect but not as off as the one on the right, which is too cool. I'd say the left one needs to be a tiny bit cooler and a small reduction in purple tint. I wouldn't really use either to process images but, if I had to it would be the one on the left as it feels closer to D65.

Oh wow I didn't even know automatic reduction of peak brightness is a thing, thats exactly what I was doing, syncing music. I've always thought any tone changes were associated with true tone, which I typically always have on (but not in this instance, which threw me off.)

Whew, sounds like I'm in the clear I got nervous for a moment. My brightness is absolutely fine no yellow tint compared to 11 Pro side by side (after peak brightness reduction went away).

yeah all iPhones including lcd models do this and have for years. Congrats on the good screen

After seeing the one on the left, do you think it a matter of getting used to it or is it worth the hassle of potentially having to do various exchanges?

My 8+ is closer to my wife’s XS which you thought was even worse than the 12 Pro. I’m used to seeing the “bluer” tint.

When you buy a new monitor that needs calibrating and you see it after it has been... you think it looks bad but after an hour or so you don't notice it at all but the colours really sing... just looks right. I'd say give it a bit of time before making any decisions. You have 14 days after all!

With all this talk again of a yellow screen I was nervous to see what my iphone 12 Pro would be. Of course I was the last stop for UPS and got the phone about 30 minutes ago. I have purchased every iPhone from the 7 on up. And yes the screens were getting warmer.

I am happy to report this is the best screen I have ever seen on an iPhone. The colors are perfect and the screen is PERFECT. No yellow tint at all. Put it against my 11 Pro and it was not as warm, and that screen was excellent. When I had the XS I exchanged it 7 times before I got a screen that was somewhat acceptable (and that was warm as hell). So you know I am very particular.

So the bottom line is if you have a screen thats too warm exchange it, there are perfect screens out there. Some of the pictures I have seen here are totally unacceptable. FYO this was a iPhone 12 PRO 256 gb Graphite color.

In Australia the only way you be able to swap any of the phones for this issue would be if you bought direct from apple and returned in the 14 days, if bought from a Telco or retail stores they would just laugh at you and tell you to go take a running jump lol.

the screen on left still looks good! I've had pee yellow screens....
I know photos are terrible at capturing screen inaccuracies, but the left yellower tint is not that bad. I know it's annoying compared to the bluer tint, but.... try living with the left one for a few days and return within 14 days if it still bugs you.

I think it's most important to look for color accuracy throughout the screen, lightness accuracy throughout the screen, and not inaccuracies along the edges.

good luck!

What do we think? Tbh, it doesn't look as bad in these pics. It's more noticeable irl.

12P on left, X on right.

ur x wasn’t great to begin with. You can do better if you want to try the swap game.

I don't agree. My X is perfect to my eyes, which just goes to show your eyes are used to what they're used to. I don't think I'll be playing the game as I'm sure my eyes will get used to the 12P as well.

Do you guys all use your phones with true tone off? I used my XS with true tone on and it never seemed to bother me.
