Can the people that have the yellow tint post their display number?
Would be interesting to see if there is one display that has it more then the other.

Do any one know what displays are "best".
What display have the cooler colors?
What display have the warmer colors?

Seems like this issue is pretty common :/
I wonder why its so common that its the "lower left corner", and not the other corners.
Seems like there have to be some production or assembly issue that produces this problem in the lower left corner.

So I finally decided to check what display I have and it came up as

LP154WT1-SJE1

For a second I got worried that I got the first generation LG screen, but those were SJA-1. Anyone have any info one the SJE model?

I'd post my model number but it doesn't show up after applying a fix to force my external monitor into RGB mode to fix the color/text problems.

Maxxed out 15" retina

here's another pic of the screen in a pitch black room:

It seems that the left side is a little "yellower" perhaps than the right-but the diff is so slight. Do people think that overall the display is "warmer" than it should be or than the samsungs? Does changing the white point in the calibration adjust it to the appropriate level or will it be warmer regardless in comparison to a samsung screen? Can people with samsungs post a pic of their screen with a white background. Thanks

Also, my girlfriend couldn't see the color shift on a white background...

Yeah there seems to be a yellow region on the left. It seems subtle but its up to you to decide how much it bugs. The yellow on the left issue seems to be quite common in this revision. But at the same time there are screens out there that don't have it.

How are you guys checking your screen type? I tried the usual terminal command but it didn't show anything this time.

ioreg -lw0 | grep \"EDID\" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

That worked for me. I had to install a small package that normally comes in Xcode, but afterwards it worked just fine.

Set your display next to another display you think looks good to get a comparison. You can move the white point up past 6500 K towards 7500 K or 9300 K but it will look unnaturally blue and you'll reduce brightness.

Have there been any reports about why this happens?
And why its almost always the lower left corner?
Since this issue happens on both samsung and LG displays, its easy to deduct that it has to have something to do with the MBP it self.
Probably the assembly or something like that.

Strange that Apple haven't fixed this issue, afaik its been this way since the first rMBP came out.

Just exchanged my 13 inch today for the top spec at my local apple store. I really got lucky as it seems there is no yellow tint on this model.

My 13 has the same yellow spot in the left corner. But I'll keep it, I do not want to play the exchange game over and over again. Chances are high that your next machine has another flaw. My girlfriend couldn't see it as well, so what does this tell us? ;)

That your girlfriend is color blind? :)

I find it kind of sad that the state of the screens on the rMBP's are so bad that people actually have to swap them out several times, and then settles for a less then perfect screen.
And also that the screen problem is not the only issue, but some are having problems with creaking chassis and other stuff.

This is suppose to be this "very well built computer, with amassing craftsmanship and attention to detail". And it has all these problems still.

It really makes me sad and worried that my replacement rMBP will also have some issue on it. It really shouldn't be this way.

To have such a huge % of faults on a product is just ridiculous.
If people are replacing their screen 7 times because all of them have flaws, something really is wrong.

Apparently the main supplier for the 13" Retinas this generation is LG and they suffer from IR.

My gen. 1 rmbp Samsung certainly isn't perfect and clearly has some light yellow coloration, which is uneven towards the bottom. I decided to keep it because a) I didn't see myself swapping laptops/screens forever and b) I'd rather have that than IR. After a few days, I didn't even notice it anymore. In the end it was a very good decision.

Doing this as well. Also I do not have time nor want to waste time for swapping laptops. So decided to enjoy it right now...I really like 1920x1200 on my 13 ;)

Maybe run the test on this website: http://imac.squeaked.com/test.php

Reading this thread made me anxious about my own screen. The colour is fine. But I did notice that at certain brightness settings (not all) it looks as if the left side is slightly brighter than the right. It's so slight that I can't be sure it's not just in my head. Anyway, it's too minor to care about. They definitely wouldn't exchange it. I suspect it's difficult to make perfect retina screens. So, they are all going to have something that's not quite perfect.

Mine has this issue in the bottom right corner of the display. I've already contacted Apple and I am replacing mine with another model.

Here is an illustration of how it appears on my display (Not this pronounced but the same position and gradient). http://i.imgur.com/eUsVWZO.png

EDIT:// Nevermind, Apple told me to do an SMC reset which has fixed the yellow tint completely. Now the display is uniformly white.

I'm amazed an SMC reset fixed your problem

Set up a return and ordered another. Disappointing to hear it plagues the 13" Retina too it means the chances of getting a dingy screen is higher than not getting one.

My replacement unit arrived. Its warmer than the first unit overall but the yellow/dingy area on the left is more uniform and less in your face and easier to overlook (probably because its warmer. It reminds me of my iPhone 5 screen.

Hmm...what to do...

You and me both. I was pretty bummed out and convinced I'd need a replacement. He said to me when you do a SMC reset it re-determines the power level of the display.

I'm going to assume that means it adjusts the input voltage to either the LED lights or the panels digitiser. But yeah soon as I did it, booted up and the yellow was completely gone, the whole display has a nicer cooler colour and it's all uniform now.

They are going to call me back tomorrow at 10:30am and he said if it returns by that time they will replace the machine so I'm pretty happy in any event. So far it has not returned.

Folks, please try the SMC reset and report your findings. It does seem "to good to be true," but what the heck-saves a trip to the apple store.
