I should note that the yellow on mine wasn't very easy to see it was incredibly subtle and I could only really see it on very light colours like when viewing this forum. The image I made above to illustrate the problem was very exaggerated to make it easier for you to see my problem, it was much much fainter than that.

But yeah mine is perfect now. I'd recommend giving Apple a call and actually talking to support and go through what they tell you as it never occurred to me to try an SMC reset and I think had this not worked he was going to ask me to try some more things before organising a replacement.

Same on mine but on the left side. I will try it soon when I'm at home and report my findings.

colour calibration wont work because we are talking only about a part of the screen.

SMC reset did notting for me (bottom left)

Since i havent really returned anything to apple before, do i need a genius reservation or just go in the store and ask for a replacement unit?

Yellow tint returned on mine. I've called Apple and am going to replace my machine. For the price I'm not settling for a faulty panel.

And you should not. Good move

Wondering if I should just sit it out for a bit myself. Its not like I'm unpowered. I got a screamer as it is.

I'm going to return mine tomorrow. Since i havent done this before can anyone answer my previous question: can i go to the store, demand an exchange, open it in store to inspect the display and if it happens to be yellow again demand another one right on the spot? (I am still within the first 14 days)

You won't have any issues. I told them I had dead pixels and they let me exchange without hassle.

I purchased mine last night and it had dead pixels. It was a 15" dRMBP (base) with a Samsung display. I returned it today and traded it for another. This has no dead pixels, no yellowing, and I cannot produce IR. It's a Samsung as well. I'm very happy with the purchase but I'll keep an eye out for any yellowing.

Yea that should be no problem. Apple is very good at exchanges as long as they have your model on hand otherwise they would have to order it.

I have a side question as i have NOT been to the stores lately after the announcement.

Obviously they would have the base model on display and ready to sell.

Do they also have ready to sell the highest end one as well. I know Apple does this sometimes as people walk in want the middle of the road units and its a BTO but they do have the up sell unit sometimes which is maxed out.

Do they have a 2.6 1TB. Reason I ask is I would buy it in store open the dang thing right there and check before I walked out.

If you want one and you don't need any of the BTO options then I'd say go to an Apple store and try it in person so you can check the screen out.

I wish I could have done that but I wanted the 2.6GHz CPU and 1TB SSD. So for me I'm back in the waiting game another week probably until I get my next one.

Guy Mancuso: I could be mistaken but there is an option i think to build your machine and pick it up locally in the US. I'm in Japan, we dont have that here, but you really have to check the online store for your country.

Yes, essentially. They have already created a new order for me and my new machine is estimated to be delivered within the next 7 to 9 days. They are also picking up the old one by courier within the next two days.

Honestly I'm not that fussed about the situation because they have made doing a replacement incredibly easy. I still have my old (non-retina MBP) machine I can use until I receive my replacement.

Oh the hell with it going to Apple and kick the tires. Need to look at these screens

This program allows you to set any "temperature" you want.

Does this "correct" the problem for those who don't like the warmer yellow?

Flux won't help because it goes as blue as 6500 K and then towards the yellow end. To get bluer than 6500 K you can just use the built-in colour calibrator in OS X to go towards 7500 K or 9300 K. But it looks terrible and doesn't solve the problem. An external colour calibrator can help reduce some of the yellow but the colours still appear muddy and unnatural.

SMC reset did not work for me at least.
They have ordered a new one for me anyway, but thought it would be worth a shot.

It fell in to the return period. I received my first ever Retina MacBook Pro yesterday. I have requested an exchange today, this will be my first exchange of any kind with Apple.

It doesn't solve the problem. In fact, a correctly calibrated screen tends to make things worse - at least on mine. Apple's default color profile was apparently designed to hide the problem on Samsung gen1 rmbps. It has a warm tint so that you don't notice the yellower parts of the screen. But as soon as you use the simplest of calibration tools, those yellow "stains" will jump out at you. It gets even more twisted when you realize that the stains are only visible at a certain angle. But if you change the viewing angle, other stains appear elsewhere. So it's a never ending problem.

Went to the Apple store and kicked the tires with the 2.3 with 512 hd . Very nice but like I suspected a Apple associate came over and he checked about the monster and yes in stock but they don't list it exactly what I said in a earlier post they have the monster on hand for those that want more than a 2.0 or 2.3 . They go right to the max amount 2.6 and 1tb in stock in the back room. I knew they did this with laptops because that's how I got mine. So if you want the max check IN the STORE. They won't have it with check availability on line. If I had the cash I would not be chatting right now.

Knowing that they have it , I can proceed to sell mine and run in and grab one. Right now I'm in the middle of a big project so I will wait a few weeks to finish it than do it. Can't take any chances with a work project.

BTW even the 2.3 is faster than mine right now. It was quick I scrolled through 200 iPhoto images in seconds. Plus I opened photoshop opened a image and ran some filters on it and it was lightning fast. Now they are smaller files than my images but still very quick machine. Also screen looked good on the three demos in the store. Did not see any yellow tinting or blotchiness. But it's hard to tell in a store too. Need a dark room

Seriously for a heavy user like myself. I would not mind even having the 2.3 with a 1tb. I think the reads/ writes might be more important for me. Although 8 percent increase in processing power I would not turn down. Regardless I was impressed.

Also he confirmed the two TB ports are separate channels so they do not share the bandwidth which is exactly what I am after. I can put my NEC 27 inch on one. Than more important put my Pegasus Raid on the other channel and run full out speeds. Today sharing the one TB port I am taking a hit on my reads/write because my NEC is sharing the bandwidth. This is very important right here. The display will run smoother and my RAid will be faster

Yup

Just wanted to add my experience for data point.
I have a rMBP 15" 16GB RAM, 512SSD with Samsung display

I have the same bottom left 'yellowish' tint. For me its basically dimmer than the rest of the screen which is unacceptable since I professionally color correct and grade videos.

Called apple about it and went through the SMC reset and couple other things but did not fix the issue.
I'm going to go take it to the store and have it looked at/replaced.
This sucks because I didn't notice it until much later after I had installed all my programs (premiere, photoshop, AE, etc...)

Hopefully I do not get a replacement with the same issue or other issues. And like many others, I am paying top dollar for an amazing machine so I expect it to be near perfect.
