I'm returning my 5th one and giving up. It has developed a few different faults. Image retention being one of them, I can actually see my old windows on top of new ones, I've not even done any Image Retention tests this is just in normal usage.

It develops noticeable image retention after 3 days????  :apple:

This one has. None of my other four had image retention, not even the first one I had which was also an LG display like this one is.

Seriously I am just lost for words. Apple needs to change display providers, simple as that.

Are you sure its not a software problem? You were so happy.... Now even I am getting nervous, wether to purchase one or not?

Don't be nervous with your product. If you develop a problem Apple will sort it out.

I'm confident it isn't a software issue as I wiped the notebook today (as I needed to before I send it back to Apple) and even on boot up with a fresh install of OS X I could see the welcome information screen suffering from image retention as I moved from menu to menu.

But listen to me, people who have problems, like myself are going to be the ones you see in threads like these. People who have no problem what so ever have no reason to enter a thread like this one and post "Everything's fine!" so you're always going to see problems in threads like these.

Just enjoy your machine and if a problem develops deal with it then, don't return or sell a machine based on what may or may not occur in the future.

I am Reading Sinne days but this thread is too big.

I tried to check which display I have with terminal but terminal do not response. I found another command but the same, no answer...

Can somebody tell me a working command?

I have a 13inch... He says he was born 4 weeks ago, so I guess he is a production of cw48?

Command doesn't work on the 13" or the 15" with Iris Pro. It only works on the 15" with 650m and 750m graphics.

Just got back from the Apple Store to replace mine, got a week 48 this time, up from week 44, looks like i have a yellow tint in the lower left side now, not sure going to have to let my eyes judge wether to keep this one or not over the next few days.

Ok mine is fine as far as I can see... Thank you.

Colorsync Utility -> Scroll down to "17 mmod" and you have a model either A018 or A020. Despite popular belief, both are manufactured by the same vendor, designated "610" under "manufacturer" using the above path. We don't know who this manufacturer is, but it's widely speculated to be LG.

Please let us know which model you have (A018 or A020) and what you think of it.

Colorsync Utility, and then?

Didn't found it ...

edit:
I still don.t find this setting but...

I speak free, even if I am new at Mac... In Mavericks I had a warm Display and now I switched to the colder profile ( I think 9500k)... Now I feel better but blue...

I installed Bootcamp/Windows7 and the white was beautiful... The whites white I ever seen ;-) without configuration...

Why?

Ok, try System Preferences -> Displays -> Color -> Choose any color profile -> Open Profile -> Scroll down the list to "17 mmod" and select it:

The reason I ask is because there are two display models for the 13" rMBP (A018 and A020), and I'm trying to figure out which is the better one or if there is any difference at all.

I originally purchased the high end 15" Haswell, that was a December build, week R. It was perfect, and a Samsung panel. But, it turned out to have a defective USB port.

I decided to downgrade to the base model, because Apple price matched a Micro Center ad (still running) with a $200.00 discount. The first replacement was a November build, week M, that had heavy yellow spots on the lower left and right sides. I returned it and received another, that was week N. It too suffered the same, except not as bad.

I called Apple support, and they wanted me to take it in to have a capture done. I wasn't excited to deal with the genius, but both he and the store manager saw the yellowing that I showed them (whew!). I asked the manager if he would pull another unit and explained the serial number week build coding. He came back with the newest build they had, a week V (50), December build (yippee!).

We opened it there, and I didn't see anything in store. When I returned home and put my clone on it, and checked it thoroughly, and the display is perfect. Bright, white, and no yellow tint, spots or banding. Panel is a Samsung A022. I can move on from this long thread, and enjoy my computer.

Best wishes to all those still suffering this issue!

For those who have returned or exchanged one or more machines due to the yellow tint: do you tell the Apple store staff that the reason you're returning or exchanging the machine is because the display has a yellow tint? How do they react?

Apple basically has a no questions asked 14 day return policy. So, if you're within those 14 days, they won't give you any problem.

So I thought mine suffered from yellow tint...but when I tilted the screen back a little bit the yellow tint is gone! The extent of the yellow on the bottom corners varies based on the angle of the screen.
Anyone else notice this?

Now look at the top of your screen while tilted and it's all washed out and super white. You just can't win.

I noticed this on one of my yellow displays, not all. It was one of the things I did, along with pushing the white point up past 7000, to make it tolerable.

Yeah the yellow tint does disappear but I quickly realized that tilting the display at such an angle makes it uncomfortable to look at.

I returned my week L spec'd out 1st rMBP a week and a half ago and received the replacement yesterday. It's week X and overall a better screen - a Samsung - though a bit warm but no tint this time, so calibrating it will make due. I will probably keep this one.

It would naturally be LG due to the use of IPS. They are pretty much the only ones who make the actual panels unless you move into really high cost displays for specialty markets.

That seems strange. The cMBPs are the only ones I remember that exceeded 7000 Kelvins native.

Hi all. I bought a Haswell RMBP 15'' last week and exchanged it for a new one due to creaking. The new model is completely silent and feels solid. However, I would be grateful for your opinions on the quality of the screen. It appears to be an LG (A019), but when transferring data from my old MBP I noticed the retina screen appears a bit more yellow than my previous MBP. How do the below photos look? I'm trying to assess the risks of exchanging it - am I likely to get one worse than the below, or is this yellow enough that I'll likely get a better one? Thanks for your opinion. In the first photo, my old MBP is on the left. The rest of the photos are tests I ran. Thank you.
