Let me copy and paste what I wrote but with bold emphasis:

This doesn't explain why two units of Retina MacBook Pro can have very different looking displays as demonstrated in many posted photographs.

I read a review that the panels in the Haswell rMBP are more accurate than the early 2013 and 2012 rMBP. So rMBP from different generations can looi different.

My previous rMBP had a great white screen (Samsung), but I replaced it due to a hardware defect. This current screen is slightly more yellow, but it has zero backlight bleeding (best backlight bleeding I have seen so far).

You're going to run into screens that have better whites or better backlight bleeding. But the variations isn't really large, unless you got a defective screen.

Ofcourse there are some differences between displays. But I haven't seen the system information in those photo's.

Many of the photos that I've posted show the terminal command that prints the display model confirming that it's the same display model on the same computer model.

I just got my replacement, with fifth number in serial being W. It sure is better than the first one I had, but the screen is still a bit uneven. This time however its a more fluid change, half of left side is warmer/yellower and half of right side cooler/more blueish. A bit uncertain what to do.

Apple could at least provide a firmware update correcting the uneven yellow tint. Looks like it's not rocket science software-correcting it, at least partially making it less noticeable.

Anyone have good experiences with serial "W" or "X"?

My "X" is pretty good. It wasn't as good as my previous machine which had very amazing whites. It's more yellow. But on the other hand, the backlight bleeding is better.

I don't know which serial the previous unit was.

But your current one is even yellow?

How do you think they would do that? The only methods I've personally referenced aren't something you can just apply with a software patch. I'll refrain from making assumptions on what you might know, but this concept seems highly unlikely.

Very unlikely indeed. If you follow the ipad section of these forums, you'll see that many have the same issue with the ipad screens. This seems to be an issue inherent with retina displays.

Well... looks like a lot of units suffer from yellow at the bottom left (3rd quadrant clockwise). Probably they come from the same batches. Hopefully the disparity follows the same or almost the same pattern so it could be atenuated through some video driver.

It's sad spending processing power applying a mask to the display, but if this atenuated the uneven yellowing I'd be fine.

Checking back in here after being away for a month. I can't believe this thread is still active daily. That enough alone (if it weren't for everything else that has gone down having to do with the rMBPs released in Nov 2013) is evidence that I would be insane to purchase this build.

I am sick to my stomach over nearly three months' consistent confirmation of a crap build.

Probably the screen of your Santa Rosa MBP is more pleasing than ours, despite the lower resolution and non-led backlighting...

I'm not sure how they would do that, given that alpha isn't per channel. Other manufacturers do something slightly similar on the display hardware end. It reduces the range somewhat, but it is worthwhile. It's just that ideally such a setting would be applied at factory. If they wanted to look for perfect hardware, it would drive costs up considerably due to the number that would pass. There's actually a lot of research on the topic. I just can't find any white papers. I keep hitting dead links.

Got my newest one and it is a keeper.
Fifth serial is "2"
It has by far the most even screen I have ever seen (a little bit of darkness bottom left corner but nowhere close to that of the other ones)...this was like my seventh exchange and Apple wasn't too happy about letting me exchange but I'm glad I did.

Santa Rosa MBPs were the first with LED backlit displays and suffered from widespread yellow tint at the lower half of the display.

It's sad that this thread is still ongoing. I thought they'd have it solved by now, they came out in November! - They must be aware of the problem by now there are so many returns for the same issue.

Personally I gave up and I'm just waiting for the next refresh and hoping they change the screen in some way. It's a real shame that the only problem with these laptops is the screen everything else is so good.

There are reports from users who has problems with creaking bottom cover or unresponsive trackpad, but none of them are my case. I'm only sorry for having an evenly coloured display with image retention and after exchanging I have an unevenly yellowish one with no IR.

But I agree with you... if the screen issue was solved most other problems would look minor. The machine is great but the screen really prevents it from shining.

Just Received Mine

I just received my haswell refurb 15 inch rMBP. No dead pixel, no light bleed and no uneven tint....however, the whole screen is tinted slightly yellow. This doesn't bother me but I thought I'd mention it for those wondering whether the newly released haswell refurbs had their screen's fixed/replaced post return vs. sending them straight back out to the refurb store after customers returned them.

I'd rather have a yellow tint to the whole screen than half the screen. This is a keeper.

Just received my 3rd MBP.
This one has a Samsung display, really better than previous LG ones but not perfect. Bottom right corner is more yellow, but the general tint of the screen is ok, so i will keep this one. No creaking, and keyboard well adjusted.Really better than previous one which marked the screen glass when closed...
Serial 5th character is 2.

I think the answer is there is no solution to this issue! I believe this is an inherent property of the high resolution screens Apple is using at this time. The yield on perfectly even screens is probably too low for Apple to be able to make sure every screen is perfect. Samsung and LG are the ones who need to solve this issue, not Apple.

Maybe IGZO screens will be better, but based on iPad Air yellow screen complaints I don't know.
