Do you see this or any other abnormality under 'normal use'?

If not, stop looking for faults and enjoy your new laptop. You'll never find one 100% perfect as its impossible with this technology.

If you see yellow/magenta parts of the screen, bleed or uneven backlight *in normal use* take it back. You'll be unhappy with it forever if you don't.

You don't learn to live with it. Trust me, I'm speaking form experience.

You're right. It doesn't effect anything else, and I hardly notice it when using the computer. Plus if I do exchange it, I might get another computer with a worse issue.

I got my 2014 MBP today, and the problem remains (as with the 2013 retinas). Taking mine back, hoping they'll sort this fault out with newer panels in the future. This problem is visible in dark rooms where I tend to watch movies and do Photoshop work. Your mileage may vary.

I'm noticing mine has this uneven screen temperature. On the bottom is a bit more warm than the top part of the screen. I noticed a lot of people here has this issue as well. I still have about 40 days to exchange or return this Macbook Pro for another, but I really don't feel like playing the lottery here and I risking getting something worse with a bigger issue. I'm just a bit disappointed with Apple's lack of quality for their screens.

My 2014 rMBP 15". Unable to find out the screen as non of the commands are working :/.

The iPhone 4 pics are awful but the screen is certainly whiter/brighter in person. Just posting to see if anyone pics up on any light inconstancies. I am pretty sure the lower half is slightly darker but it may be all psychological...no it's definitely darker...I think.

By all means, you need to be happy with your purchase so take it back if you're not. Be aware though it's likely the replacement will be the same unless it's a glaring fault.

If you're browsing the web, reading a PDF, watching a movie, editing a photograph or doing whatever you bought it for and you can't see an issue, there is no issue.

The mind can play tricks on you which are apparent when looking for imperfections.

My screen also has that uneven temperature. It might be the camera, but mine is not quite as bad as that. I do notice when I'm reading PDFs or using Pages. I'm thinking about exchanging it, but I'm a bit worried the next computer might have a worse issue. UGH:mad:

I must say it certainly looks worse in that picture than in person. In that pic it it looks very apparent but in real life am I am unsure if it's me just seeing things. I will keep it as I really do not want to get into the swapping game.
Also I think if it wasn't for this thread I wouldn't had even noticed/cared about it.

I just youtube'd backlight test and full screened the view with full brightness in a dark room, check for light leaks.
'Barbie logo' is a name I just made up lmao, apparently some peoples logos have a pink tint to them and it is rumoured to be an indicator of a yellow tinted screen. So just thought I'd throw a pic of my logo light in there.

Got a 15" Mid 2014 with iGPU, samsung screen a bit yellow so the problem's still here ...

There's no Apple Store in my country, I bought it a easy-m (which is a premium reseller I think). I showed them the yellow tint, we compared next to the in-store model (which was a LG) and theses guys just told me that this was a problem of calibration, they even told me that they preferred the yellow tint to the much cooler screen ...

What can I do ? It's been 7 days, I really like the rMPB but it bothers me a bit.

Is the 14 days thing available to me knowing that I didn't buy it in a Apple store?

No, you can't fix it by using a color calibrator; I've tried with a Spyder 4 Elite. I've attached a link to the profiles I've made. You can try them; they won't fix the problem, only adjust the colours slightly, but the colours will still be off and be tinted towards a dominant colour, usually yellow, but mine is currently green tinted, the 5th display I'm on now. Put the .icc files in ~/ColorSync/Profiles.

One of your profile really bettered my screen color (DisocalGUI Color LCD ...), the yellow tint is gone, it's still not accurate but way better! Thank you :)

Btw, did you notice when you start your mac, the color change before the desktop appears ? Like it's really white and then turn to yellow before the desktop appears

It would be nice to see if the same yellow tint appears if booting on Windows

So here's my lime green-tinted Retina display. This is actually my fifth display; the prior 3 displays were yellow tinted and my first display had stuck pixels but great colour. Both displays in the picture are set to the default Color LCD profile and set to maximum brightness. This display I got as a replacement in August 2014. I don't feel that I ever got the product Apple advertises. Dealing with these displays has been very stressful and time consuming and expensive since I had to buy a Spyder4Elite for 200 dollars to attempt to improve the display by calibrating it to a bluer colour temperature with marginal improvement but the overall green/yellow tint remains and contrast suffers.

Others in my situation can try my collection of color profiles. Extract them into ~/Library/ColorSync/Profiles.

Same for me, I just gave up. I'll wait for the next generation to enjoy a nice screen ..

At this point, what did the genius guy said to you?

Been just over a year since this thread was made now. The problems still persist. It would appear Apple doesn't think it's a big enough problem to change display suppliers.

Sadly for me my 6 year old 17" MacBook Pro just died (Which is why I'm looking at this topic again). I need a new laptop now and I feel pretty stuck. I bought in to OS X in 2004 and I've used Mac laptops each year they always fitted my needs.

Now I just feel stuck. I can't go back to Windows at this point and there is only one company making machines that run OS X without hacks and that's Apple but these laptop screens make it difficult to buy with confidence.

I feel like I'll probably order yet another rMBP 15". My 6th one. The last one I bought was in January 2014 so it has almost been a year. I've run out of options and cant delay a purchase any longer.

i'm on my third 15 inch macbook this week and it feels like an uphill battle. the uneven color is very hard to work with. i had an almost acceptable screen with just a small patch of yellow towards one corner which i had already convinced myself that i would live with it. but then i noticed a tiny little crack in the screen. i was about ready to throw the computer out the window.

it is specially hard because my computer is a cto so i have to wait a whole week before getting a new one. it is stressful and saddening that apple is putting out such ****** screens. i'm surprised there is no class action suit yet. i had a 15" with an lg screen last year that was perfect. now all my screens are yellow which i can calibrate somewhat, but not when they are patchy.

at this point i'll take an open box computer that has been inspected before sent to me. i don't care about the packaging, i just want the computer screen inspected and then sent to me in an open brown box. i don't give a blank.

before this i had 2 17 inch computers and their screens were fine. i still have 1 17 in with no issues.

Same. It makes me laugh when people in this very thread say stuff like we are picky, our standards are too high or the display technology isn't up to our "dream standards".

It's plainly ********. As I have had two 17" MacBook Pro's from Apple that used TN panels and they looked perfect, no blotchy uneven colours. Same goes for my iPad Air my iPhone 6 etc

This is the first time I've ever owned a display out of the probably 50 I've had over my life time that I've ever had a colour inconsistency issue with so I know it's not us, this computer display is crap.

I have a 13" air with a samsung panel and it totally yellow. Horrible. Meanwhile I have 5 thinkpad W530s here and all the screens are perfect except for one that was defective and instead of sending it back for fixing I just bought a brand new screen online for $50 and swapped it myself. Piece of cake. This is why I won't buy a macbook pro.

Sorry, but talking about yellow and lenovo in one sentence made me smile a little bit ;) I owned the lenovo yoga 2 pro (i know i know, it's not a thinkpad) and it's display has real big problems with yellow-colors. It just can't display the color yellow without some greenish/brownish touch on it (mustard) And thats not a issue with a few screens, but all of them. No exception. The only fix from lenovo was a software update and even this made it just a little bit better.

That's why i switched to apple and the mbpr. My macbook is perfect and has no yellow tint at all. It has the lg screen and is the newest 2014 15'' model.

just got another macbook retina and it is also yellow. I calibrated it and half of it looks good, the other half looks slightly yellow. yellow on the left side and ok on the right side.

this is so frustrating. i tried to ignore it, but i can't. when reading, the yellow part makes my eye feel like it's cloudy and then it looks like dirt. when working on design, i keep moving my project to the right side of the screen to check the color. it is not a good screen for professional design work.
