Intuos 5 Pro + Yosemite = freeze

Definitely an issue.

My combo is:

Retina iMac (iMac 15,1)
OS X Yosemite (10.10, Build 14A389)
Intuos 5 Pro tablet
Latest Wacom OS X drivers (6.3.10w2)

Symptom (nearly 100% reproducibility)
Let computer go to sleep (iMac power settings at defaults). When you wake the computer, login screen comes on, then the entire system locks. No mouse, no keyboard input, nothing. Just the login screen. Only way to get the system back is a hard reset with the power button.

When the Intuos tablet is unplugged (but drivers still installed), problem still happens.

When the Intuos drivers are uninstalled (using the utility in Applications/Wacom/Wacom Tablet Utility), problem goes away.

So, it's definitely the Intuos drivers.

CTE-630BT not working on Yosemite either

After instelling Yosemite, my Wacom behaves like an imbeciel. Tried a lot of drivers but I am giving up now. Come on, Wacom! I spend a lot of money on this tablet, only 4 years ago! Redicilous Wacom is no longer supporting this model.

I get the sneaking suspicion that they MIGHT wish for us to buy a new Wacom tablet.

I don't buy any of their corporate BS about why the tablets won't work.

Like with the ADB to USB issue - which seemed more like an actual PROBLEM - a guru was nice enough to write an open-source driver enabling the older ADB tablets.

So I guess we can just HOPE the gurus might find it in their hearts to help us avoid Wacom's obvious "money grab" on this issue and get the tablets working again.

Any way to fast-track this to the gurus? ;) Wacom is totally just screwing us by abandoning their "older" tablets. As if Apple let them know exactly what was going on so that they could fine-tune the tablets they still CHOOSE to support so that the poor things could still operate within mighty Yosemite.

Never happened. I'm not buying a new tablet. PLEASE oh gurus, save us from the greedy corporation! What a total load of BS...

CrashX, throwaway society. Wants you to buy a new version each year.

Yep, but maybe the gurus might be kind enough to save us.

But Wacom is cannibalizing itself, whether they know it or not. My first Wacom was almost $1,000 - back when I was in college and I needed it for my portfolio work.

Then they screwed me the first time, so I went with the Graphire 3, but still spent about $400 for the "full size" version.

Now, if I'm forced to buy another one, I'm just gonna buy the cheapest POS they make. Or maybe just skip it altogether and put the money into the new iPad Air. The fat nub seems kinda weird, but apparently the different brushes adjust.

So yeah, with everyone pushing into the tablet market with stylus - really genius move on Wacom's end to keep screwing over their last remaining customers.

But again, hopefully the gurus might come to the rescue for us. I don't know WHO has all of the disposable money, but it's not me.

I truly despise society today. Everything is run for the ignorance, exploitation and greed.

Constantly running up credit.

Wacom Pen Tablet 5.3.5-4 works with my Bamboo Touch tablet that I use as a mouse. Works great under Yosemite 10.10.1 with no issues

Wacom Graphire & Yosemite

I got the my Wacom Graphire ET-0405-U tablet working on my MacBook Air with System 10.10! I installed the driver, then the tablet worked though as everyone has mentioned, I couldn't open control panel to set my preferences.

I copied the Wacom preferences file from my iMac running System 10.6 to the corresponding folder on the MacBook Air. After restarting all my preferences were there, such as "mouse mode" instead of "tablet mode", right click for normal click (I grew up with Mac mice that have just one button), speed, etc.

I hope this helps...

Enjoy,
David Henry

Never had problem. I even got my brother's ancient Graphire to work on Yosemite on his MBP with the ancient driver.

Thank-you, kurosov, your comment gave me a clue.
Only the Prefpane is broken so...
My goal was to change the barrel buttons to both be Right-Click.
I opened the com.wacom.wacomtablet.prefs file in TextWrangler.
(The .prefs file is in the ~/Library/Preferences folder.)
The Functions that seem to be the defaults are:
Function 1 = Left Click - assigned to the tip
Function 14 = Left Click also? - assigned to the eraser
Funtion 4 = Left Click also? - assigned to barrel2 (top barrel)
Function 3 = Right Click - assigned to barrel (bottom barrel)
I changed the barrel2 function to 3, restarted my mac and now the stylus barrel buttons are both Right Click.
It is a pain to have to manually edit the prefs file but I will now be able to use the tablet a while longer.
I hope this helps someone else.
Graphire (no number, original) on Yosemite beta 3.

Hi, I'd like to thank GadgetEnvy for posting this, last year. It does work on Mavericks, but only while the Wacom is plugged in. If you disconnect it, and then re-connect, it has lost the changes made in that preferences file. I haven't tried it yet, but I expect that if the Mac sleeps, or is switched off the same would happen.
I was hoping it would be a permanent change. Does anyone know how to make the driver retain the changes?
AND, I need to make this work on Yosemite too. Is it possible to copy that pref file to a pendrive, and put it into the same place in the Yosemite OS?
Sorry for so many questions, and thanks. Ruth

Awesome! Thanks! I used your advice above edit my Graphire Table prefs to specify "Left-Handed Mouse" in Mavericks. I plan to do the same when I upgrade to Yosemite.

Is it permanent

Good, glad the link helped. But can you tell me whether the alterations you did were still there after you closed the Mac down and re-started?. Mine were not still there, and it is a pain to have to go into the prefs and Textedit and alter the settings every time.

This thread will lead you to a tip of bootcamp windows install of wacom driver, then mapping & prefs, backup prefs, edit pref, bring to Mac and use there -- works.

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6602507?start=45&tstart=0

This thread will have you install an early version of the driver -- 6.2.0w4, depending on your tablet -- and then Get Info on Sys Preferences, Open in 32-bit Mode, voila it works (change your settings), then change back to 64-bit mode.

All in Yosemite, 10.10.2

Fellow artists, I sympathise with your problems. I had no issues with Yosemite, fresh install on MacBook Pro and iMac 2011, also no issues on it on Retina iMac 5K. Using Intuos 4 and Cintiq 21UX. Tried Photoshop, Zbrush and Sketchbook Pro. No issues with sleep mode. Also, I can confirm my friend has no issues with Intuos Pro on 2011 iMac. While Wacom drivers have been problematic (on Windows as well), it has been a smooth ride with Yosemite for me. Did you try a clean reinstall of Yosemite? I had some brush lag after upgrading from Mavericks, but a clean install (erasing the partition with Disk Utility before installing) fixed my problems. Hope this helps someone, and I hope you get your issues sorted out.

I found the answer!

EVERYONE! After much frustration after searching for a **** working driver for my older intuos4, I finally found a solution. Some people suggested trying the European version of Wacom's site and finding a driver. I also tried a few obscure and risky third party sites that offered "working" drivers. Nothing was working and I was ready to destroy my tablet and my Mac all because Wacom was making things difficult. Well, somehow I stumbled across the answer... all you have to do is google "Wacom Legacy Drivers". They evidently had this hidden section of their site that is not linked anywhere from within. They have a whole list of drivers dating back several years worth. I tried a year old one, and it wasn't compatable with Yosemite, but then I tried one that was just two versions older than the current one and BINGO! My tablet works and the Preferences Pane works in System Preferences. All the options are there like the where on Mavericks.

Now we can all put our pitchforks and torches away and Wacom gets to live another day after all...

Hey thanks a lot for suggesting to download and run the older version of the driver! It did work for me! I was having the most terrible afternoon of the year after discovering that my Intuos 5 touch wasn't working under the newly installed Yosemite. Tried several other tricks but this was the good one!:)

What driver for a Graphire to install on Yosemite?

Never had problem. I even got my brother's ancient Graphire to work on Yosemite on his MBP with the ancient driver.

What driver?

Where did you get it?

I've got a pile of downloaded drivers but not one stinking version will install on Yosemite. I migrated my old stuff over, but the old pref pane won't open.

My Graphire works but I can't adjust anything. Because I once set my tablet button to click-lock, I am stuck with that setting. That's the worst.

Wacom makes great stuff, but if they think I'm gonna buy another tablet just because they want me to, they can stuff it.

Have you looked to see if the settings are held in a plain text file? You might just be able to edit the file directly...

Thanks, but yes, I've been poking through files looking for anything I can edit. I changed one editable .plist file to say "Graphire" instead of "Bamboo" but reloading the Pen Tablet prefs pane still failed, so I undid that edit.

Back to rectangle one. :)

I have a Wacom Intuos4 tablet and experienced the issue of a non-working preference pane after upgrading from Mavericks to Yosemite and installing the latest Wacom driver (Driver 6.3.11-3a). The pane would load in the system preferences, but it was not recognizing the tablet and prompted me to either restart or reinstall the drivers, neither of which worked.

Uninstalling the tablet software and re-installing a legacy driver eventually worked for me. Here are my working specs:

OS: Mac OS X 10.10.2
Tablet: Intuos4 (PTK-640)
Driver: 6.3.10-w2 for Mac OS X v. 10.8, 10.9 & 10.10 [6 Nov 2014]
