"We value your privacy" that's the message I, and other visitors are greeted with today when visiting macrumos.

Seriously, are everyone expected to be fools in this day and age?

If you valued our privacy, you wouldn't have auto-opted in on all those advertisers you're selling our information to. Someone needs to be slapped for that. But typical these days to just be a fool towards everyone, auto-opt in like Apple auto-opt's in every time you update the OS or log into your account on a new device - diagnostics, feedback, all that NSA crap is auto-turned on again - like WIFI and bluetooth that can't be turned off completely unless going into settings every time. So many blind sheep out there just don't give a damn about your privacy let alone convenience and choice.

that message is most likely related to GDPR

websites operated outside the EU but with an international audience such as MR need to adhere to that regulation too, as far as the EU audience is concerned

without your consent they would not be allowed to do anything with any of your data

this is probably why that message pops up for you guys from Denmark

I know why it's popping up, I'm commenting on the fact that they claim they care about your privacy, as if it's some Apple'ish kind of magical motherly caretaker of our privacy, when in fact, it's the complete oposite. It's like if you come visit my house, and I automatically punch you repeatedly in the face, untill you opt out.

It can be hard for people that where born into this world with the internet already being in existance, I can imagine you must think everyones privacy is automatically a free for all feast, boy have you kids got a lot to learn, quite frankly dangerous people you are. It's dangerous thinking beign so successible to manipulation and identity theft and giving away all your tracks and traces and then have some sites spit in your face laughing saying they care about our privacy. What a joke.

I understand your concerns though I would be much more worried about google, Facebook and amazon than apple or MR

I may be wrong but I believe Apple cares about privacy , more than Microsoft and that is the main reason I am invested in the apple ecosystem

As regards mr I do not have any concerns at all

In the end the choice is still yours to make (mostly)

I value my privacy so much that I surf in anonymous mode. No cookies. Ever.

However, Macrumors and others who just MUST force an overlay onto visitors make anonymous surfing just so much harder, because that overlay will be there every time I open the site. That is how much they value privacy.

This is not the way the interwebs were supposed to be. It is truly sad seeing American companies follow suit on a really rotten EU initiative. And it is truly sad seeing Macrumors implementing Windows like clickomania UI elements.

However, once rejected MR forum should not then be nagging over and over again several times per day. Once rejected the site should keep that setting as per GDPR rules, plus the yes or no buttons should by default be on No, as per GDPR rules.

Getting a bit old with the popup every couple of hours!

There is ABSOLUTELY no need to disable content on the site to comply with GDPR. If bbc.com and fifty million other European sites can do without such forced overlays, I think Macrumors can too. Stop this extremely bad practice.

We aren’t disabling content. It shouldn’t pop up more than once, unless you are blocking cookies. If you are blocking cookies then I don’t know if I have a solution, but I’ll look into it.

Anyone with cookies ON getting it multiple times?

Look, I’d be happy to not have the GDPR pop up but we don’t have a choice in the matter.

I’ll test it out more form a European vpn.

So far I've not had it pop up today, but this is the first time I've come on the forums so far from a single device. I don't block cookies btw.

Now popped up twice, once on my iPad and now on my MacBook :(

Ya. It’s going to pop up once on different devices. But it you don’t block cookies or use private browsing, it’s should remember on each device, so won’t ask you again on that device going forward.

Is that what you are seeing?

Cookies on on both devices, and there’s a macrumors one saved.
Yet I get the message every day, is it because I have all turned off (I couldn’t give a monkeys about personalised ads etc and don’t want them).

Why must it be one extreme or the other? Do you really advocate either, a) total tracking, b) no internet.

Perhaps this just a bad attempt at sarcasm, but it does not help those that advocate some level of privacy.
Your ISP knows everywhere you go, regardless of ad tracking or cookies.

sudo pico /etc/hosts

Add this:

0.0.0.0 quantcast.mgr.consensu.org

Then:

sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder;sudo killall mDNSResponderHelper;sudo dscacheutil -flushcache

Voilà! You're done with this braindead ****.

Yes, it's getting very annoying. I don't seem to have the same issue with other sites that use the quantcast notice, although perhaps I don't visit them as regularly.

EDIT: I am running ublock and ghostery, that shouldn't affect cookies though. It also happens repeatedly on Safari on my iPhone.

I accept, I promise! I'll sign my life away in blood if I must! Just quit it with the pop ups!

:(
