It hasn't worked for me. Still getting the cookie notice every few days, each time with opt-in as the pre-filled default, which breaches the GDPR requirement of opt-out being the default setting.

The cookie and advertising preferences pop up keeps on coming up for me. Please can you just remember my preferences and stop asking me? I’m going to have to stop visiting your site otherwise and delete it from my favourites.

Thank you.

Front page or forums? Or both?

Nope. Still have to accept cookies on almost every visit.

Just now on my iPad, which I use to read macrumors practically daily.

Are you logged into the forums on the iPad? That might help.

I am now, so let's see what happens.

But to be perfectly honest, isn't the point of accepting cookies actually accepting to be remembered?
What else am I accepting every time, if you forget me as soon as I leave?
Because you know, forgetting me is allowed without my consent, so why not just stop asking if that's what you do anyway?

Oh, it's not supposed to show up again and again. When I test it using a VPN. it appears once, and that's it. For some people it doesn't take though. And I'm not sure why.

that message is most likely related to GDPR

websites operated outside the EU but with an international audience such as MR need to adhere to that regulation too, as far as the EU audience is concerned

without your consent they would not be allowed to do anything with any of your data

this is probably why that message pops up for you guys from Denmark
Didn't know the eu had legal jurisdiction in the us..

What's your cookie setting when testing? I have checked the "Prevent cross-site tracking" option in Safari, and get the "We care..." message quite often (once or twice a week, maybe, across two Macs).

Also, I do use Content blockers like Ka-Block (and some times ABP).

Seems on my ipad, if I open the forum’s from a bookmark it’s fine (I am auto logged in on the forum’s).
If I open the main site (no logging in), I get the message.

No blocker, standard settings out of box. iPad, iPhone, Mac alike: need to dismiss/accept cookies on front page at least once a week per unit. Logged in to forum, so that makes no difference.

Again: a cookie’s sole purpose is to track me, so there’s no reason you should forget my choice.
Only reason I can see is if you have set your cookies to have a limited lifespan.

sudo pico /etc/hosts

Add this:

0.0.0.0 quantcast.mgr.consensu.org

Then:

sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder;sudo killall mDNSResponderHelper;sudo dscacheutil -flushcache

Voilà! You're done with this braindead ****.

I do a similar trick with my /etc/hosts but a growing number of sites (not macrumors yet) are starting to notice and block me. So, be warned this may be a time-limited approach.

Having everything turned on by default without asking first does show one's true colors.
I would advise to change that, included with a post that explains it and a sorry.
People don't like being traced and if they find out they will never put their trust in this website/forum ever again.

If it's a money issue and this site values its user base than just be honest and play open book:

- Tell users what it would cost to keep this site running.
- Have a banner on the site where people can donate.
- Show how much is donated and how much is still needed.
