The irony in this thread is that we all like Apple products & software, but in order to have what we like, Apple needs sales to drive the business that supplies the products we like. If need was the sole mechanism fueling sales that paid for the innovation that supplied the products we use, we’d still be using old Nokia flip phones & the iPhone would likely not have existed lol. Innovative products are directly connected to the sales/capital that make them. Need is fine, but WANT is what drives those sales needed to fund the innovation & development of the products we like & use today.

We can’t have our cake & eat it too.

yep, I loaded Ventura on my 2016 MB Pro and my 2014 Mac Mini thanks to the nice unbelievable talented people at the Dortania OpenCore project. They will get my old machine(s) if I ever upgrade.

Battery life and fan noise/temperature are also important to the median consumer. I friend of mine has an intel macbook pro from 2019 and it is pleasant to use. One does not have to spend tons of money to upgrade, a mac mini or a second hand M1 macbook air are probably within reach of somebody that already has a macbook. You can find older macbooks still somewhat cheaper, but not sure if it is worth it.
