Only issue of course, is airtags are inherently useless for asset tracking because it beeps loudly when it doesnt see your phone for more than 3 days. For professional use (delivery vans, equipment rental, etc) it won't work
Those 3 days feel like an hour now. Can't go on a long walk with my dog or a quick trip to the store without it chirping or flagging my work phone saying an unknown tracker is nearby.

Thought this was an april fools joke for a second.... Why would anyone want to make their airtag 10 times bigger and bulkier.
I have a AirTags in a few on my vehicles, and having the batteries last 10 years would allow me to hide them in harder to reach/find locations.

Oh they leak, like, for example, if you leave them in an unused TV remote control for an extended period of time...
You are thinking of alkaline batteries which do leak after a while, the lithium do not leak lithiums do not leak.

I got tired of alkaline batteries leaking, and I went to lithium batteries and all my devices that use AA or AAA batteries.

This isn't meant to necro this thread, but my order of 4 of these arrived today. They came in a black Ziplock bag with all the bits and bobs.

Initial impressions are pretty positive. They are built well, use torx screws to assemble the case, and fully assembled, it's about the size of a toy harmonica. 1 1/2" x 4 1/2" x 3/4". The case is all black, with "Elevation Labs" in small print on one of the corners. Nothing else on the case to identify what it actually is.

No issues putting one together - it just works.

Surprisingly, the chime of the AirTag is still quite audible even inside the case. There should be no trouble locating one of these by sound.

My use case for these is to put them in our vehicles and luggage. In the case of the car, I don't want to have to go dig it out of wherever I hid it. For the luggage, the battery always craps out just after taking them out of the house.

So this should do the trick for me. Now I need to wait and see what the battery life is like.

I wonder how much of the signal strength is impeded because of the six ternal case surrounds the AirTag. There’s got to be better solutions than this.
Perhaps a bit. At 20 feet it locates the tag in the case (sitting on a countertop) and I get an arrow pointing in the general direction. At < 15ft, it's pointing directly at it. The range for simply detecting it at a distance is less though: ~ 30ft. A bare AirTag in my environment is detectable at ~40ft.
