I have each of mine wired to a 12v deep cycle marine battery. I’m good, thx.

I'd have chosen 6 AAA cells as they're only 10mm in diameter. Also, a dozen CR2032 would give you as much as one AA, so only 5 years, but could be done in an almost-credit-card form factor

Nice to see this. But the final product is a bit big. Price is ok. But I will stick to the normal AirTags and replace battery once in a while.

Isn't the point of Airtags that it's small and easy to attach to keyrings, luggage, and the like?

Why would you need to add an enormous case like that? I can only see a few uses where it would be perhaps a good idea. One would be for vehicle tracking.
In cases where space is not an issue but battery life is.

So they tested their product with those batteries for a decade first right?
How did they test these for 10 years to be able to make that claim?
It’s not new tech. Energizer AA lithium batteries have been around in stores for 30+ years. The capacity of the batteries is known, how long the batteries can hold a charge is known and how much power an AirTag consumes is known.

i am not sure if alcaline AA battery and 10 years lifetime fits together lol
The press release says that they “recommend Energizer Ultimate Lithium” (not alkaline batteries).

The batteries in picture also are Energizer Ultimate Lithium.

You can certainly put alkaline AA batteries in it, but (of course) it will have a lower battery life.

The disc design of the AirTag is unnecessary, severely limiting the battery life with button batteries. I'd love a cylinder version that accommodates a AAA battery. Couple of years, easy.

Thought this was an april fools joke for a second.... Why would anyone want to make their airtag 10 times bigger and bulkier.

10 years? Besides a car, our relationship to most devices doesn’t last that long. If they segment the time extension, to 10, 7, 5, and 3 years, for example, and then match the size profile to the length of time, they’ve got a product line. One year is pretty good. Just long enough that the LACK of habit will make changing batteries a bit of a pain. So coming in at three years with a vessel only as big as three CR2032 batteries? I’m in.

This might actually disrupt the asset tracking market, because usually you pay $50 for the tracker that is rectangular like that, and then its $20/month for a data plan to use it, and its through a clunky 2000's era web portal UI, and the battery life is usually in weeks, not years.

Only issue of course, is airtags are inherently useless for asset tracking because it beeps loudly when it doesnt see your phone for more than 3 days. For professional use (delivery vans, equipment rental, etc) it won't work
IIRC, the metal back plate on the airtag is what generates the tone... so by removing (I assume) that in order to interface an airtag with their battery pack, it may removing the tone. However, I've been away from some airtags for more than 3 days and I don't remember any of mine beeping unless its just intermittent.

Do they have a plan to make a wall adapter to directly connect the AirTag in a regular outlet ?
It should last 100 years, and you can track your home.
