What are some of your fav or best Android apps NOT found on iOS?

This thread might help Android neophytes to get started on what apps they might find useful...

Here are mines -

App Backup & Restore - Saved me so many times from apps with bad or bloated updates. I dont like the current look of this app. I have an older apk at 2.1.1. that I saved from using it.

App 2 SD Pro - Dont use this as much anymore since I have a phone with internal storage only. But I still use it to clear app cache, view my leftover storage, and even uninstall apps.

QuickPic - Best photo gallery app for me and I can include my videos on the bottom so it works as both photo/video viewer. Can "hide" folders too.

ES File Explorer - Formerly used ASTRO File Manager but it lacked Bluetooth transferring that this one has.

Notes Lite - The icon looks nearly like the iOS but it does so much more than the simple default iOS version like keeping notes private with a password, sketching, To-Do lists, etc.

TouchPal Contacts - Fav version is 4.7.1. Dont like the current update with WeChat. Very clean contacts/dialer app that I use as default for my old Nexus. I prefer when I first open my contacts app, I see a picture next to their names. I see iOS still lacks that where I have to tap on the name to see their photo. I usually put my contacts by FIRST name only so a picture next to it is much easier for me to differentiate if two of my contacts share the same name.

Holo Launcher - Fav free launcher because you can adjust the speed of the animations and resize fonts. Has many other useful features like locking desktop, hiding apps, changing or resizing icons, etc. I went from the simple Zeam Launcher to Nova to this one.

UberMusic (w/ Metro UI skin) - Stock Android music player app is horrendous and cant play songs by just the artist. It can only play songs from the folder you put it in. And many other 3rd party Android music apps are ugly. UberMusic w/ Metro UI is the closest one at looking slick ala Zune/WP phone. Apple's Music app is still better with CoverFlow. Only Sony's Walkman app looks decent from an OEM but this UberMusic app is my fav from a 3rd party. My only qualm is it sometimes downloads the wrong background picture for an obscure artist with the wrong bio info as well.

Nexus Revamped Live Wallpaper - Still my fav live wallpaper. Simple and looks great on just a clean black background and if the screen is AMOLED.

Notification Toggle - Very easy to use and customizable to the specific toggle switches I want to use.

Screen Off and Lock - Nomore reaching to the power button. This is already below my Notification Toggles for an easy screen off and lock. Fav screen off animation is Zoom Out & Z-shaped Swipe. Looks slick and doesnt lag on my old Nexus One.

No Lock - This is an app I use for my old Nexus as I wanted to avoid using the power button to wake it up and use volume buttons instead.

Motion Actions - This is an app I use now as No Lock doesnt seem to work on my current phone (4.1+) so I cant wake it up using volume buttons. Nowadays, I just shake it for a second. Doesnt always work if phone is in deep sleep but it still does prevent some wear and tear on the power button if you need to wake up the screen.

Du Battery Saver - I dont use this to save battery life. I dont believe in battery saving apps anymore. An app like Deep Sleep Saver caused many wakelocks. I use this more to read my "screen time usage" as my HTC One's batt info doesnt give me that. And this one is more accurate at screen time usage than WakeLock Detector. I also like the sound alert it makes after a charge or if it is at 30% that GSam Battery Monitor doesnt do. If your phone is rooted, it gives you an option to underclock the CPU.

WakeLock Detector - Name says it all. Does its job.

MoboPlayer - If I'm not using the video player from QuickPic, then I'm using this one because of the mini-player that still plays on the homescreen or in another app if I want to jot down notes or do something else.

MovieTube - Solid app to search for entire movies on YouTube.

MIUI Icons Pack - Fav among all icon packs.

Smoked Glass Digital Clock Weather (widget) - I use this along with the Nexus Revamped live wallpaper in the background and small Glass Widget (news ticker) below it. Looks great on AMOLED.This weather widget provides weather, moon cycle, alarm clock, batt temp, batt%, etc.

Glass Widgets - I use the transparent news ticker (4x1 widget) and have GSMArena Blog or PocketNow as my news feed.

Flipboard (widget) - I still prefer the look of BlinkFeed more, but I will likely use this widget onto my next phone if doesnt have BlinkFeed.

big Big BIG 2 - Basically Chinese poker (or Pusoy Dos where I'm from) but this game is actually better than the ones I played on iOS. I used to have Big Dai Di on my iPhone 4 which was very polished. But it can be slow and you have to read annoying comments from the CPU players and that shuffling sound. This game you can change the look of the cards, table, speed it up, and just a game more straight to the point. But the AI can be predictable after awhile.

On my next phone, I will probably use Dash Clock and Disable Services (needs to be rooted).

1) Google Play Music - IMO, the best music player available on any platform and possibly the number one must have app for me now

2) ES File Explorer

3) Mediahouse Pro - a great DNLA browser / player / controller application

4) Google Now (I know it's available on iOS, but not in the same deeply integrated way)

Hmm, I can name "found on iOS" equivalents of virtually all of these. For example, "App Backup & Restore" works beautifully with built-in iOS functionality.

A few Android app descriptions here remind me of Louis CK describing how his ex-wife told stories. Why would I want a clock/weather app that shows battery%? I have a very functional clock app with time-related features, a weather app which is all about weather, etc.

There's no official google play music app on iOS but some of the ones on the App Store are arguably better than the stock one on Android (atrocious interface IMO)

And my favorite apps on Android that aren't available on iOS?

Emulators ;)

I really like the interface for Google Music and think it's one of its strongest features :)

-Swipe home!

My HTC one is almost fully gesture based now. It's groovy. I love that I can gesture up and down whilst in any app to put the device to sleep.

-Kii keyboard.

You could literally customize everything about this keyboard.

Oops, the point that it had to be the same app brand slipped by me during the first read. Time for me to do less multitasking.

Edit: Hmm something strange happened with this thread. Now it seems to be combined into one thread but earlier it looks like it was cloned from another area and later combined here. Before it was combined I saw APhillyApple's reply below in the other thread and thought I saw a reply from OP to APhillyApple's statement "there are lots of equivalents to 95% of what you listed." that confirmed that the OP's original intent was to compare apps of similar functionality, not necessarily the same brand. Could OP/anyone confirm?

Man ole man, there are lots of equivalents to 95% of what you listed. And I am not sure anyone, even Android users care that much about widgets. Really, widgets?

yes, widgets! they are pretty useful if you use the right ones. i can see all calls, latest messages and emails, and weather info. all on one screen without opening any apps. just a quick glance at my screen...

so which file manager do you use on ios? OP mentioned a launcher, which launcher do you use on ios?

what's bad about app/widget providing you useful information? also same questions for you as above.

and please find me equivalents to these apps:
- gesture search
- airdroid
- mysms
- unified remote
- *any file manager*
- *any alternative keyboard*

It's not only quick information at a glance, which is great in itself, but it's also about the functionality of widgets.

For example, I have one of my home screens set up with direct-dials of my most frequently contacted people. So with one touch, I can place a call. No need to search through a scrolling contact list nor type a person's name into a search bar.

Likewise, with toggles (and more importantly, customizable toggles), I can also toggle settings with one touch. Any setting I want or deem important for me to have instant access to. And the special thing is: I can also customize said toggles to third party apps, allowing me to have one of my Power Toggle buttons be a discrete "screen off." One little tap, and my device goes to sleep.

Widgets are a lovely thing, indeed.

Save your breath, couch. Some people just won't ever get it. Well, until Apple implements customizable toggles or widgets. Then it'll be "true innovation at work!"

Right, where are the swipe typing apps on iOS though? The absence of that functionality is one of the main things keeping me from getting iOS devices at the moment.

Another app I've used a lot is Streamie. It lets you watch streams that have been blocked for your region or mobile devices, by emulating a webpage using java. It works like a charm and has let me view tournaments perfectly well on my Note 2 while the forums have been filled with iPad users crying that they've been cut off from the action.

Let me translate this: All these apps and utility features can't be done on iDevices and are therefore not needed... until Apple allows them, and then they are awesome. (But prior to Apple allowing these features/apps, they suck, cause we can't use them on our Apple devices.)

I remember when widgets were exclaimed as evil-Android features. Then Apple copied Android's notification center in iOS5 and gave iOS users Weather, Stocks, etc widgets built in. Then widgets were great.

That said, the only differing feature sets between iOS and Android is in access to customization and file manipulation. There are just so many apps between the two systems, that you can always find something similar (regarding non-utility or those few 'exclusive' apps, that is).

But, I do know of one app that appears to be Android specific and is unique and beautiful. "Timely" is probably one of the most elegantly designed apps on any market and is designed to be an alarm clock. Beyond the asthetics though, there are some really awesome features like cloud syncing (I set or create an alarm on one Android device and every Android device on my account is automatically updated instantly. I believe Google is planning to integrate this alarm clock into Google Apps as well, so it may end up on iOS too.)

Everything else I could mention is either "gaming" based or a utility feature, that Apple simply won't allow (yet). And regardless of your OS, wouldn't it be nice if you could delete the crapware Apple forces us to use, like Newstand (god I hate that icon staring at me!) or allow me to change/delete the default browser and keyboard. I hate both of those built-in apps. Give me Swiftkey or Google's keyboard (and personal dictionary capability) and let me use Chrome or Firefox or any other browser, please!
