Your favorite Android apps?

I have three apps that basically reinvented the way I navigate through Android because of gesture swipes and double taps that launch apps and shortcuts.

- All In One Gestures
- Nova Launcher Prime
- Swipe Home Button

Each app is complimentary to one another. I try to avoid overlap that results in accidental taps. I have some actions linked TWICE. For example, Screen Off & Lock has Nova's swipe up gesture and All In One Gestures where I short tap the status bar in the left area followed by a long press. I did this because sometimes if I am on BlinkFeed, I can't swipe up for Screen Off. And a simple double tap would make it too easy to trigger it or BlinkFeed accidentally.

All In One Gestures have swipes starting from the left and right sides, status bar taps, and the back button action. Swiping from the left edge linked to home button makes apps look like it is being flicked back to the right. You can hide unwanted icons on the homescreen and avoid virtual menu buttons. This app is probably the most important one for gesture swipes and double taps on status bar.

Nova Prime have the most gestures linked to launch apps for me. Double tap for HTC Sense Launcher under shortcut/activities is slick. I can generally use two different app drawers with Sense and Nova with just a double tap. The key ILLUSION is to use the app animation Slide under Look & Feel. Forget System, ICS, and Jelly Bean. Use SLIDE. Makes it feel webOS-ish slick but with apps sliding left or right horizontally.

Swipe Home Button is not complimentary to phones with on-screen buttons unless you like to disable/hide them via root or toggle dock via Nova, but is beneficial for physical home buttons that wear out like on Samsungs and has swipe to play next track. If I swipe up toward right, it triggers my music player without me needing to open the app itself. Great when shuffling songs. Perhaps the least important to me now, but it got the ball rolling for me first and still complimentary nonetheless.

Does this feature work with third party apps too? Or is it just the stock player?

Some of my personal gesture swipe settings below after months of tinkering. Tweak them to your own preferences and apps you generally use. If you follow this template pretty closely, it will change the way you use Android. Nomore capacitive, physical, and on-screen buttons needed. No rooting needed. Use one or both thumbs to open apps. Use your left index finger or left/right thumb to swipe away apps.

All In One Gestures

Right Area - Back
*Double Tap Left Area - WakeLock Detector
*Double Tap Right Area - Silent Mode
*Short-Long Left Area - Screen Off & Lock

Touch Feedback - All Unchecked

*Taps on Status Bar

Nova Launcher Prime

For awhile, I actually thought gesture swipes were a GIMMICK. Now I find them more practical and fun. Less homescreen pages, unwanted icons, and clutter. Opens faster. Might take some time of remembering each gesture link and tinkering to your liking, but well worth it. If you use Swype texting, it might not be. Since I use SwiftKey with Flow turned off, it is all worth it. You can always temporary disable them in case some apps involve swipe gestures on the edges.

Seeing people use iOS and watching them press a physical home button everytime to go back to the homescreen and press a power button for screen off now looks archaic. Eventually physical buttons wear out. Assistive Touch introduced in iOS6 helps the home button from some wear and tear but I found it getting in the way while playing games in landscape (ie PvZ2) and just not as quick and natural like swiping slightly left from the right edge of the screen to go back.

Honorable mentions -
SwiftKey
TubeMate
QuickPic
Screen Off & Lock
ES File Explorer
UberMusic w/ Metro skin
Du Battery Saver
WakeLock Detector
Notification Toggle
SMS Wakeup
MoboPlayer
Big Big Big 2
App Backup & Restore (ES has an app backup feature too but I still like the layout of version 2.1.1 on this one)

If I wasn't stuck on 4.1.2, perhaps AcDisplay would be up there too and surpass SMS Wakeup. Tried Dash Clock on my girl's Lenovo A516 with 4.2.2. Nice app but never got into it.

Many of these gesture swipes and apps alone will keep me staying with Android for the foreseeable future. After five years with iOS, using it was generally the SAME WAY to me. After less than three years with Android, I still find something new with it. Gesture swipes re-energized my passion for it and brought me a DIFFERENT WAY on how to open apps with only a single homescreen page of apps.

Almost three years with Android and still going strong!

Try NiLS with the floating panel. its much more reliable once you get everything snug. it doesn't have presets for notifications like weather and whatnot, but more usefully ties into android notifications and works with most apps.

500 Firepaper
Swiftkey

Sonos

The top three are the reason I would not go back to iOS. 500 Firepaper is a nice to have, Swiftkey and SwipePad I use all the time.

Not really gonna add as some of my favorite apps are already listed in here, but I'll add GoLauncher Prime, really liking its animations and use especially with custom icons (not from Go either, actually don't really care for their icon packs)

How do you get Blink feed to work using Nova launcher? I have to swap back to Sense?

How do you get Blink feed to work using Nova launcher? I have to swap back to Sense?

I used Nova on my One M7 over the top of Sense but liked Blinkfeed. To be able to continue to access it, I set up Sense launcher to only have one home screen and made that Blinkfeed. I then set up a few gestures through other apps to be able to launch it, specifically SwipePad and Nova Launcher (must have the paid Prime version for home screen gestures), pointing them both to Sense. So when I activate Sense with a gesture, it would pull up Blinkfeed. Another gesture or press of the home button took me right back to my Nova home screen.

I haven't use it in about 6 months so my apologies if the details are slightly off.

Time, because it rules EVERYTHING!
Google Keep.

Because it self updates across all my Android devices with no effort from me and is great for shopping lists.

Calendar

Because again it updates automatically across all my Android devices AND my Apple MB Pro without me having to do anything!!

Accu Weather widget

Because it's freakishly accurate.

Gmail Widget

Because it's all my email on the screen in a widget

ES File Explorer

Because it's free and works brilliantly, does exactly what it says on the tin and works just like Windows Explorer.

All my games and my TeraZone ones too... because the quality and breadth of them is stunning, the same as on iOS I think. I have too many favorite games to list too.

Volume Widget by Leep Studios -- This widget allows you to set your volume levels to three preset profiles with a single touch. Very convenient.

Kii Keyboard -- I hate touch screen keyboards. This is the one that I find the most tolerable. I can type the fastest and with the fewest errors with this keyboard.

Nova Prime Launcher -- Allows me to get rid of that annoying app tray at the bottom. Great launcher. Makes it easy to edit your home screen, especially moving widgets around.

Google+ -- Google pretty much shows everyone how to make an app on Android. I use Facebook as well and for a long time until recently, it really sucked compared to Google+.
