I dunno, somewhere in West Texas
Must have, first downloads on every Android device.

Nova Launcher - It's the go to launcher if you don't already know. Stock look, total customization, you name it, it's got it. Paid version offers even more features like unread count and gestures. It should be one of your first Android app purchases seriously.

Smart IR Remote - if you have an IR beam on your device this is the best remote on the market, trust me. I paid $10 when it initially released but I believe it's much cheaper now. Works with literally any electronic device, thousands of makes and models. You can set up macros to string together commands, you can operate multiple remotes at once plus it has Tasker integration for complete automation. Meaning when I get home from work at 7pm I can have my air conditioner turned on, my TV and cable box switched on, or have the Xbox on with the TV already tuned to hdmi. Endless possibilities.

Google Play Music - I have my entire library uploaded and do all my music shopping thru the play store so it only makes sense to make this my default music hub. Not only that but the ui has a clean look with easy controls for the player.

The only trouble with Nova launcher is that the developer has no time to work on any updates because of family commitments, but not such a bit deal i guess as it works great as is.

Did that, worked good but i found it to be a battery drainer and the notifications werent clickable.

Hmmm, i think i can help with that. if you swipe across the icon it will let you delete or reply :)

battery options you might try: go into the app, tap on floating panel and make sure NiLS FP Auto Hide Service is off. Also, unticking "Enable Resize Mode" will allow you to swipe on the whole notification and not just the icon.

All In One Gestures I set the Edge Height to 35px, Vertical Off-Set to 80px, and Slide Distance to max (50px) so it wouldn't disrupt or close when I use TubeMate which has a slide-in menu and other apps like the Play Store and Viber. That is about the right height slightly shorter than the slide-in menu found on TubeMate.

I actually recently got an old iPhone 3G and very new iPhone 5s before I left Hawaii. My brother gave me his old 3G so I can give to my stepdaughter. I appreciate SCREEN OFF & LOCK more and more now since I can't find a Screen Off app on iTunes. The power button on the 3G does NOT work anymore. I can only wake it with the home button and have to wait every one minute for the screen to turn off.

http://forum.iphone-developers.com/...g-modding/4933-screen-lock-power-off-app.html

^^ Found it.

Jailbreak. Cydia again. Extra steps needed to simply turn off the screen in the homescreen.

With Android, FOUND on Google Play. No root. Can pick some fancy animations with Screen Off & Lock or go random. Swiping up linked to Nova's gesture swipes is just smooth and natural for me now.

In fairness, I'm loving my gold iPhone 5s based on hardware. I love the design. Camera is great and iOS7 is pretty sweet as I've grown to like it. But I'm still not in love with iOS and its restrictions. I have to jump through loops for it to get activated or do simple things.

Mine so far:

1) Apex Launcher [free] - One of the best launchers that allows me to customize my home screen, app drawer, and icons. I ended up buying the pro version for $4 so I could organize my app drawer better with folders.

2) Battery Bot [free] - Shows me my battery temp so if it's getting too hot I can let it cool down and not worry about shortening its lifespan.

3) Cam Scanner [free] - Nice camera scanner for documents. Let's you take picture at an angle but crops and adjusts it perfectly so it looks like you simply did it on a copy machine. I ended up paying the $1 to get rid of ads in the app.

4) Gel icon pack [free] - The only icon pack I could find that has a custom icon for every single app I download. In addition the icons are a combination of black, gray, and white which is what I want since I tend to keep my phones a long time and I don't burn out my blue pixels on my AMOLED screen as the blue pixels burn out the fastest especially if you always have a static blue icon on your homescreen.

5) Google Text To Speech [free] - Samsungs text to speech engine which comes preloaded on galaxy devices sounds terrible so I replaced it with Googles that sounds much more natural by comparison.

6) HP ePrint [free] - Wireless printing the easy way.

7) Norton Identity Safe [free] - Password manager that has all the security standards of any great password manager, such as 256 aes encryption and built in browser, but also has a trusted brand name in security behind it.

8) Pie controls [free] - Allows you to swipe in from the sides or bottom of your device to bring up controls such as back, home, and multitasking so you can save wear and tear on your buttons. I ended up buying the pro version for $2 in order to get rid of ads when you pull up the app settings menu.

9) Polaris Office [free] - The only fully featured document editor I could find that allows me to insert shapes (such as an arrow) into my word documents. This came preloaded on my phone but it has a big enough screen to let me hook up a USB mouse and bluetooth keyboard to it and hammer out real reports and spreadsheets.

10) Power Toggles [free] - Let's you make a toggle widget customized however you like. I ended up putting one on my home screen with a screen off, flashlight, play/pause music, and song skip forward toggles.

New favorite -

DynamicNotifications

Wasn't sure at first but now I think it makes an excellent Moto X's Active Display alternative. I set up mine to a simple white foreground color and adjusted the time to 2 minutes until screen goes off. Maybe I will tweak it to 30 secs or 1 minute. I'm usually next to my phone anyway. No need to hurry and check. Uninstalled SMS Wakeup as that app only gave me 10 seconds until the screen turned off. Less abuse on that power button. Fantastic and very practical app.

After using DynamicNotifications for a couple days, my only qualm with it is the screen doesn't turn on when my phone is in my holster case or flipped over. Read the premium version has the same issues. I had to reinstall SMS Wakeup as that wakes the screen no matter if the sensors are covered or not. I decided to use both DN and SMS Wakeup. DN is great to keep the screen on longer when exposed. I noticed with both apps installed, if DN is set to 10 secs to turnoff, it really is 20 secs since SMS Wakeup is set to 10 secs. It counts down after whatever SMS Wakeup is set to.

I rather get AcDisplay but I'm stuck at 4.1.2. But DynamicNotifications is good enough.

Slidelock (after bugs are removed - makes dealing with notifications much better)

Pushbullet (only use it to push files/links/text etc - for which it works amazingly well - not really into notification mirroring, my phone is always beside my PC)

Send anywhere

Today Calendar

VLC beta

Aide (lacks in some respects but okay enough to test basic app functionality)

Wifi analyzer

i would agree with many on their choice of app but here goes

1. Tasker - Too fully automate stuff
2. Foldermount - Too move large appdata to external sd
3. Pushbullet - too push stuff to and from my rmbp
4. Samsung Smart Camera - to link my nx mini up to my Mega
5. Switchr - the fastest smoothest app switcher for Android has to be seen to be believed
6. XDA - as im a dev there to must have
7. Xposed Framework including - Youtube adaway, Ok Google, Ad Blocker etc

Finally found an app that can wakeup the screen with the volume (down) button similar to what No Lock did for Android phones up to 4.0.x.

Power Button to Volume Button by TeliApp

Works great. Tried alot of apps dealing with tap tap the screen, shaking it, etc. Never seemed to work when my phone goes to deep sleep. Nearly wanted to root just to prevent abuse on the power button. With Power Button to Volume Button, NO ROOT needed.

Only issue could be battery drain as phone is kept awake. Since I use Notification Toggles which can show on-screen volume controls, my volume button haven't been abused much anyway.
