Personally, I think all of the "notch hate" for iPhones and the MBP is way overblown.
Of course you do, you don't hate the notch. :)

fwiw, I'd rather have a bigger bezel and have a symmetrical screen than a slightly larger unsymmetrical screen. It's all in what bothers a person visually. I wont buy one like that, but big whoop, it's not keeping me from owning a Mac.

I just don’t notice it, Apple did a great software job so we don’t see it that often. I would definitely prefer a notchless MBP, but not at the expense of slim bezels. Until cameras can be hidden under the screen (which I am not expecting to see on a MacBook for at least 10 years given the physical constraints of the lid), I find this notch to be a good compromise.

Now, I just wish that Apple would put more stuff in this notch, like FaceID. But overall, the notch is not as a trade off on mac as it is on iPhone

More display space with sacrifice?
But I agree there is no argument on that one because it’s objectively more space, just each one sees the extra space differently.
More real estate with sacrifice exactly. I wonder how furious you must be because of the rounded corners iPhones and iPads have nowadays…
If the menu bar could be double lined or stacked that would be great use of space, though, as the notch does reduce the usable space for menu bar items. But whatever.

slim bezels and notchless are no contradiction though:

unless you're insisting that a 1080p cam is so much more important to you, and can't bear 720p that's built in in this 15" Dell example for facetime calls that you prefer compromised screen space

On my MacBook Air M2 the notch is not great but tolerable.

I used to always hide menubar and dock on my old MacBook Pro. Using plenty of apps, such as Mail, in fullscreen mode or covering the full screen. Do you guys have any tips how to best set up the notch + background image? I am slightly confused about what TopNotch does and how this can help me make the notch "invisible" during normal operation. Any tips are welcome!

I personally don't mind it. I got my M1 Mac MacBook Pro on launch day and the notch quickly disappeared into the background. A year later and I'm completely used to it. In fact, I use the notch area as a sort of "safety zone" when I open and close the lid.

My only complaint is that I wish the notch was a little smaller. Compared to the iPhones, the MacBook Pro notch is pretty THICK...

While I can't say my opinion on the notch one year later as I purchased my 16" MBP in September of this year, but so far I've had no issue with it.

I actually like it -- I don't do anything that adds lots to the menu bar (what I do add fits nicely) so it's cool having the menu up with the notch and have the rest of the screen dedicated to windows.

I use Notchmeister and have cool Christmas lights that hang and that's always fun to use during lectures haha

When dark mode is turned on I barely notice it because of the screen, so that's cool. As well, it makes it stand out! Not a good reason but it does start fun conversations and "debates" with my other tech nerd friends.

It’s better than the alternative. I have a couple of Windows laptops that have very thick bezels on the top and thin on left/right. It looks ugly.

I notice it pretty constantly (even with a dark wallpaper) and would prefer not to have it, but it doesn't really get in the way, so I've come to accept it.

Yes you're the compete opposite of me, I'm the type of person who'd rather walk into a coffee shop with an iBook G3 Clamshell than the year-ago MacBook Pro that half of the people in there already have ;)
Completely respectable. On the other hand I don’t really pay attention to what others do or don’t have at the coffee shop, my devices are the only ones that matter to me.
