Honestly, the more I see impressions and videos and information, the more impressive the SIII becomes (and expandable memory is such a big win. Remember those begging Apple for a 128 GB storage size?). Even... gasp... TouchWiz is somewhat growing on me, if not for all the nifty little extra features it incorporates.

When you really break it down, the SIII is a serious upgrade from the SII. Much more substantial the the 4 to 4S was.

Of course, I still think 2012 is Apple's show to steal come October. It will be exciting.

- No MicroSD slot
- Only an 1800mAh battery (I may be being ignorant here as I haven't looked into its' battery life much, but it seems awfully small for such a powerhouse phone)
- Locked bootloader (I know it can be unlocked)

Actually they have said after testing(HTC One X & One S) the battery life is the best of any phone they have used. However, no Micro SD is a deal breaker for me. I dont care about 25GB of Dropbox. Its only free for a year. I really love the size of the One S. I have T-Mobile so id get that one if i were to get one. The 4.3" screen is a great size. It is a little longer than my Vibrant but it isnt wider .

Sure wish they would of included a microSD card slot.

so true. and if apple put out a phone that size, the tune will then change to, wow, that's revolutionary. thanks apple to giving us a bigger screen.. yadda yadda.

To some extent maybe but there is no way I'm buying an iPhone if it's 4.8" that's too big for my taste and I'm sure a lot of others will feel the same way.

I think the US version of the SGS3 will have the same 28nm, LTE-equipped, dual core Snapdragon as the One X.

I don't think they have much choice but to go with the Snapdragon processor. With this in mind, everything we heard about the GS3 today is nothing but a tease for us Americans. I really wonder how the phone will be after it goes through the hands of AT&T/Verizon.

Watch their latest commercial if you want to be disturbed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=2lpLGb1WW8E

The gimmicks in the GSIII annoy me. So do the services that most people won't want to use. Their new campaign seems bad. The phone looks bad.

But if we see past that, we still have a great big screen, a fast processor, (hopefully) good battery life with that larger battery and other optimizations, and a smooth lag-free experience.

Both the GS III and the One X are tempting me...
GSIII:
-removable battery
-possibly smoother experience than what HTC brings
-Micros SD slot
-ugly design (imo)
-annoying button design (for me)

One X:
-crisper screen
-beautiful looking design
-nice capacitive buttons (my preference)
-no Micro SD card slot
-stuck at 16GB, 12GB available to user (AT&T version)
-arguably better UI design

The US version never comes with that button on the bottom. Always has capacitive buttons. IMO it is a nice looking phone. Just too big.

It could be free all the time and id still prefer a microSD card.

The snapdragon s4 is a great SOC anyway (its not behind the competition like the s3 was). Its the first cortex a15 cpu in a phone pretty much. Its also 28nm vs 32nm of the exynos so better battery life from both the smaller lithography and the more efficient a15 cores.

Dropped the iphone a million times too. And it never shattered. Don't generalize isolated cases of where it did shatter. But there are also other materials such as aluminum too. The One S, Xperia P, N8 are phones that uses aluminum.

Plastic no doubt is cheap and practical but its not elegant at all. I rather have something elegant and luxurious to complement the whole android or ios experience.

Mine always get a case on it anyways so it dont matter if they put a pure gold back cover on it. You wont see it on mine so plastic, aluminum, glass......who cares?

I am not arguing against this point (I am buying the AT&T HTC One X), but the fact that we can't really know anything about this new device except the fact that it has a 4.8" screen, ugly design, wireless charging, and some new software features. The design (1 button vs capacitive buttons), software, and processor/radio (so we can't judge speed/call quality/power consumption) will more than likely be changed in some way or form when it decides to swim across the pond(s) to us.

I've already signed up on the new Samsung S3 sign-up page in order to keep up to date on all things related to the phone for here in the US.

My mind is already made up. Samsung has my money with this one. Samsung phones fit my hand perfectly (4.8" is as big as I dare go), and the integration with all my Google apps and calendars is perfect with their services.

Tablets and computers on the other hand still remains all Apple all the time for me. Cross platform app integration may catch on woon, i hope.

It's cool to see it meets your needs! For everyone's sake, I hope it comes to the U.S. as soon as possible so we can use/maybe buy it.

EDIT: could you possibly link me to that page where you signed up for info? I can't find it
EDIT 2: nvm.

I hope Samsung takes their time. I'm a Verizon customer and have never been impressed with Samsungs CDMA phones. It's even worse when it feels like they rush it.

Actually I'm fairly disappointed with the Verizon 4S. I wish AT&T coverage was better in my area.

Those of you implying that quad-core is automatically better than dual-cores clearly do NOT know what you're talking about.

It's ALL about architecture. It's not as simple as 4>2.

Case in point: Tegra S3 (Quad-Core) vs Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 (Dual-Core).

And with that in mind, dual-core A15 >>>>> quad-core A9. Too bad Samsung didn't go with the A15's, although I know they aren't expected until late 2012.

Honestly I would get the SIII, if it was available now. But it is not, so I'm going with the One X on Sunday.

I was unimpressed at first, but now I think I am excited for the SIII. There is so much potential for this device.

-S-Voice is in every way an improvement over Siri. Being able to say "Hi Galaxy" to start it up is pretty great.

-The potential of eye-tracking is a small but mind boggling thing. If the device can accurately tell the difference whether you're still looking at the screen or not to avoid dimming/sleeping, that would truly live up to the "smartness" of the "smartphone."

-And the more I reconcile the plastic back, the more I'm okay with it. The trade off seems to warrant it. Wireless charging; replaceable battery down the line; and most importantly, expandable memory.

These features will have to deliver first, but the potential is there and very real.

PS. And again, if this was Apple pushing these features, we'd have people here going ga-ga over it.

I was hyping this phone like crazy a couple weeks ago. I said Samsung was at the top of phone world and then they go and release a plasticky thing like this. Looks no different than a Nexus S from years ago. I thought this phone would truly change the game and all I see are even Android fans turning against it. Good hardware, great screen, boring design. The ball is now in Apple's court.

But it's pretty significant that they offer it for 2 years. That should cover anyone who gets a One X/S3 and wants to incorporate Dropbox.

I can't make a case against a microSD card, but personally I've never used one with respect to a smartphone and I never will.

Not everyone opts to use a case with their phones. So yes, it matters a great deal what is decided for the backing of a smartphone.

The only reason I use a case with my iP4 is because the glass is so slippery. I never used a case with my 3G iPhone and if I get the One X I will only use a case for specific things (beach, working outside, etc).

The cheap plastic build of Samsung phones is absolutely a negative.

Looking all over the internet a lot of people are being absolutely pathetic over the phone. I mean look it's a big improvement over the Galaxy S2 yet people are bashing it for what exactly? Had Apple come up with some of the features Samsung has implemented in the phone I'm sure a lot of the haters would be on cloud 9.

Personally I don't know what a lot of haters are expecting with the iPhone 5 but even to these people I'm sure Apple could release a crap phone and yet they'll be raving on about how once again the iPhone is the best phone on the market.

I've had enough of my iPhone 4S personally and will probably definitely move to the SGS3 or a Windows 8 phone later in the year.

You don't get it. The specs aren't the issue...they're actually great. The design is uninspiring, doesn't use premium materials, and simply looks bad. If Apple releases a poorly designed phone or a phone that has the same design as the 4/4S you can be sure they will be criticized as well. If they release a device with high end materials and unique design, as well as upgrading the internal specs, you will see them praised like they have been in the past. Samsung missed a rare opportunity to steal & add a ton of customers by releasing a poorly designed device...It will still sell well among their fans but it could have been a game changing device if they used premium materials and/or better design.

I think his point, at least how I see it, is that a LOT of Android fans were bashing Siri when it first came out. A gimmick, etc. Just find it funny/ironic that they now have it, and feel it's something special.
I still think it's a gimmick.
It's Vlingo on steroids.
I've tried Siri and a whole host of Android voice command apps and they all have sucked to some extent.

The thing that does intrigue me about S Voice is I don't have to activate it by pushing a button. I simply say "Hi Galaxy" or whatever you decide to change the command to, and it's ready to go.
Between the eye tracking and S Voice, I can see why this thing has a 2100mAh battery.

The design looks fine to me, the way people are making it is as if the design is awful.

As for the materials I will say I'm disappointed but also not surprised given their history.

Either way each to their own but people criticising the features of the phone are just haters.

Well, the 4s was EXACTLY the same design as the 4 and no fanboy was criticizing it, including you. :p Same would happen if 5 was the same design as 4s.
