I think a lot of people are disappointed with respect to build because they believed the prevalent ceramic rumor. People thought the S3 would be Samsung's leap to a quality form factor.

Well, the 4s was EXACTLY the same design as the 4 and no fanboy was criticizing it, including you. :p Same would happen if 5 was the same design as 4s.

LOL...so you think if Apple kept the same exact design for three years that nobody would criticize them!? Are you joking!?

Seems to me that Samsung were going for least amount of weight in a large phone, but still be cheap enough to mass produce 35 million or more, hence the plastic.

Interestingly, the S3 weighs less that the iphone 4s, even with a much larger screen and larger battery.

Nice feature set, irrelevant specs (remembering that apps are generally developed towards a low common denominator) but the design is terrible.. it looks like every other generic budget smartphone (but larger) IMO.

Not a massive fan of HTC's design principles either mind you - keener on the Experia S or the Lumia but of course, design preferences are individual.

My iPhone contract has been up for over a month now and I'm looking at every new handset release with an open mind but, so far, nothing has really grabbed me enough to consider a change.

Given its using a pentile Display I don't think its going to be all that stellar (kinda spoiled with how good text looks on the iPhone 3.5inch screen or not). All my playing around with Android devices hasn't impressed me that much. The Note, SGS2, SkyRocket and plethora of other devices have the same issue. Text is pixelly. I also have to zoom whereas on my iPhone it just looks right.

I'll have to play with the SGS3 when it comes out in the stores, I also need to play with an HTC One X as it has an HD LCD which might make it display better. They seem like a downgrade to me minus the bigger screens (some to big). Hoping we get some news on the iPhone come June.

I have early upgrade eligibility and still nothing has impressed me similar to mproudfoot. Open mind to because I am actually going and playing with phones in the store but nothing really exciting me or impressing me fully. I also don't want to deal with buying a spare battery as a carry around since I like to have my pockets empty barring my iPhone and Tuch Sleeve wallet for it.

The One X is the first smartphone that I've played with that has made me seriously consider a jump to Android. Not sure where you live, but the AT&T model has solid battery life. The only cons I can come up with are that the size of the device is too big for some, the internal memory storage is small, and fragmentation, which is an issue on most Android devices.

You could of course just wait until this fall for the next iPhone.

The one thing I've learned in the last 2 years since joining these forums -fanboys NEVER critisize Apple for ANYTHING. If Apple released the same exact phone, design and specs, and called it iPhone 5, fanboys will say that's fine because it's already perfect. I really believe that to be true. ;)

But fanboys aren't "everyone" and Apple would be heavily criticized by the media and potential purchasers if the design wasn't updated and improved.

While I know it's opinion what looks so bad about the S3? Looks like a phone, what makes the iPhones design better? It's a square, relatively boring IMO. Not to mention I find the ergonomics pretty bad, but I keep it in a case so at least holding it isn't a chore.

Truthfully, they are both really ugly to me, but who cares - It's just the outershell. I'm not sure why it's such a big deal. Beauty is only skin deep. :) It's not like you are going to marry one of them, although from the insanity of these threads, I assume some of you just may do that.

But it's pretty significant that they offer it for 2 years. That should cover anyone who gets a One X/S3 and wants to incorporate Dropbox.

I can't make a case against a microSD card, but personally I've never used one with respect to a smartphone and I never will.

----------

Not everyone opts to use a case with their phones. So yes, it matters a great deal what is decided for the backing of a smartphone.

The only reason I use a case with my iP4 is because the glass is so slippery.
I never used a case with my 3G iPhone and if I get the One X I will only use a case for specific things (beach, working outside, etc).

The cheap plastic build of Samsung phones is absolutely a negative.

So is aluminum and frankly, so is the plastic back on my Vibrant. I just dont get the comments on the "cheap plastic back". Its no different than than the millions who happily went and bought the "cheap plastic back" of the iPhone that many complained it had light leakage with small cracks around it.

Now that the iPhone has a brittle wrap around glass feature, sure it looks nice but it isnt any more durable at all. The plastic back doesnt bother me in the least. The cover comes off, i can access my microcard, change my battery to pop in another if i need to.
Speaking of the microcard, that feature is awesome. All my music is on there so when i play it, i dont have to use data like on dropbox or Pandora so my battery dont use as much juice or i dont have to worry about a weak spot and the music being interrupted and when i change phones, i just pop it out and insert it in another phone and it is ready to go that fast. Same with videos and i can put any games i have on it as well.

The HTC One S looks to be a great device and i wish they incorporated a microcard because id get one. Real nice looking phone and perfect size but, they left out the card slot and made the battery unremovable so that seals its fate for me. Which really is a bummer.

I completely agree. Having the potential of 128 GB on the SG3 vs only 16GB on the HTC One S is a total deal breaker for the latter. I'm not sure what HTC was thinking here in an otherwise awesome device.

The S3 is ugly???? I think some would disagree on that.

I disagree. I dont know what they are even talking about when they say it is ugly. Why? Because it doesnt have a glass back?
The button on the bottom wont be there on the US version. Its always the UK version that gets that button for some reason. I think it is a nice looking phone it just too big for my taste.

I really dont care about the S voice feature as long as everything else is crisp and fast. US version is supposed to be here i June is what ive read so ill be trying out both the ONE S and the GS3 and decide from those but the microcard already gives the S3 the advantage. Too bad the One S dont have a 32gb option.

See, I don't get this criticism over the 4 -> 4s. It isn't like Apple didn't do this in the past.

The 3G and 3GS look similiar, only a slight bump as well(double the memory, better cpu). The 4 and 4S is the same thing, bump in memory, CPU(single to dual core).

And it will probably be this way for many many moons. There is a new iteration of said device and a mid-cycle refresh, probably so people who are coming off of contract can get the 5 or the 5s and to also keep their sales channel filled with a newer device.

Apple is the only manufacturer making iPhones and it does keep it simple, you aren't really regretting your decision as there isn't a new device coming out every week or month that trumps what you have. There shouldn't be buyers remorse for these things. Do the homework, test the device and if its your cup of tea buy it and don't look back.

The S3 doesn't look ugly but I am not fan of the color choices. I prefer black/dark gray housings, just a preference though. When it does come stateside I will be messing with it in a store a few times namely to determine if the screen is any better than the previous Android phones out there but I doubt it (text and screen quality/clarity are what I am after). It needs to be as clear/sharp as the iPhone regardless if its a 3.5 inch. They should be able to do the same for a 4+ inch phone.

Much like the press made up the term "death grip" in regards to the iPhone 4, "fragmentation" is largely an anti-Android term. Yes it exists but it's not as big of a deal as most make it. I know I've had over eight Androids of different brands.

The HTC One X comes with Android 4.0.2 which its the latest mass market Android OS. I've used the phone and it's simply terrific. Based on my past experience with every version of Android since prior to 1.0, I can say that there's nothing about v4.0 that I would change.

I'm not claiming it's perfect... but it *is* excellent. Therefore one can use this phone for at least two years. It will perform, fast, smooth and reliably.

The latest is 4.0.4 and they come with 4.0.3(One S does anyways) but HTC usually gets the updates where Samsung lags in that department.

Looking at it in pictures, I think the new GS3 looks incredible. It appears to be the perfect size for my hands, but I haven't held it yet. I doubt I'll switch to it, not entirely convinced Android is safe, plus Apple still gets some perks with the iPhone. But that SG3 is looking great.

Can't wait to see Engadget's full review on it.

The hard plastic of the 3G and 3GS is substantially nicer and more conducive to gripping compared to the plastic I've encountered in Samsung devices.

The polycarbonate of the One X is a dream to grip.

When my phones end up spending their lives in cases (like pictured below), I really don't mind the materials they are made with.

I do look after my handsets but I draw the line on screen protectors.

The issue isn't whether ICS will perform well on the One X for two years. It's that there is a good chance that One X users will have to wait a long time to obtain Jelly Bean once it's released. That's if they can get it at all at some point.

4.0.4 has not been approved by all carries yet. That's why the One X I tried at AT&T was running the earlier version. It was lag free, fast and very smooth, so should I decide to buy one of those I will leave it as it is.

My Nexus runs great on 4.0.1. Therefore I believe anything over 4.0.x with a proper implementation will be just fine.

So your justifying the plastic back on the iP3 & 3GS? Still a plastic back that had the same look....and it leaked light. I think the back on the GS2 is awesome as well as the HTC One S &One X. Either way, im putting a case on them.
