these are five apps i can't do without:

safari - my favorite browser. i like it much better than firefox or camino.
itunes - how else would i listen to music or sync my iphone and ipod?
ical - as much work as it needs, i use it a lot, and it keeps me organized.
stickies - i keep an amazing amount of stuff in my stickies that just wouldn't work with pages or word.
joost - it's my favorite new app. last night i saw episodes of transformers and time trax!!

1. Quicksilver- I feel naked not using this. It's probably the best all around program I have ever used.

2. Opera- It takes a bit of work to get it where I want it, but it really is just great when you do get it working right.

3. iChat- It's really just nice looking, I've tried Adium but it doesn't have the simplicity of iChat, (but it does have much more features)

4. Preview- Yes, this is a killer for me. Being able to get big PDFs and view them easily is big for me.

5. Not really an app, but folder actions are kind of a hidden gem, being able to just simply put images into a folder and get a JPG out of them easily is really cool.

My biggest joy of using macs now is that it's BSD under the hood... so:

5. df -h
4. du -hs
3. ps aux
2. ls -hal
1. vi foo

Of course, that's not to mention perennial favorites like 'ssh', 'man' or 'sudo.' Especially fun on OS X are the commands "open" and "say" while ssh'd into a friend/coworker's machine. ;)

anyone know any programs for mac that are like infranview?

im just looking for something simple. i used it to just resize images and have yet to find anything that will do that on my new mac easily.

Personally, i'm a photoshop junkie but i realize it's out of 95% of people's budgets. If you're looking for something free, I'd try out Image Tricks which should do some simple resizing with their free version.

How about an OSX equivalent to the basic "PAINT' program that has come with Windoze since 3.1? I know it isnt the greatest graphics program in the world, but its simple, its easy and is great for making quick JPG or GIF files. I am surprised with all the high-end "free" apps that DO come with OSX that there isn't something like this one

Logic Fooking Pro 7!!!!!

Logic 5.5.1 platinum on windows just doesn't cut it anymore.
Damn these wetherspoons vouchers. Drinking on a weekday doesn't help anyone...

quicksilver
growl
terminal
applescript
proximity (bluetooth proximity detection - allows me to run my applescripts that automatically turn on/off screensaver password lock, turn on/off my music, set my away status is adium/ichat, check my email, etc) when i leave and walk into the room all by detecting if my bluetooth cell is in the room)

this is only my 4th day with OSX and my new MBP but my favorite so far have to be:
  1. Opera
  2. Adium
  3. Adobe CS3 Design Premium
  4. Virtue Desktops (Amazing application!)
  5. iAlertU/Quicksilver (tied)

This is my second post in this thread, but I think my answers have changed.

1. Firefox
2. AIM/Adium
3. Mail
4. Bootcamp (does this count? If people are saying parallels, this deff counts!)
5. DW/PS CS3
5 1/2. Office

How boring, I know.
