So the 1080P videos don't looks sharp and Full HD in the 11" iPad Pro in YouTube ??

Correct - sorry if I did not explain well.

The iPad Pro 11" screen has a much higher resolution than 1080P (1920X1080), so when you play content on it lower than the native resolution (2388X1668, or almost 1440P), it looks bad. This phenomenon is not unique to iPads, but that is why it looks so bad in this particular case. If you're at a computer right now you can see for yourself - set it to a much lower resolution than your monitor's native resolution and watch how much sharpness you lose.

Yes this annoys me too. I have a new iPad 11 and YouTube is rubbish on there. I'm not interested in debating the numbers but to me it looks rubbish. I have a Pixelbook and Surface Book 2 to compare it to and YouTube looks stunning on those. I wish Apple and Google would stop being so childish and work together.

I have no complaints with the YouTube app on my 12.9 gen 3. And I’m a heavy YouTube user.

Is it possible that Youtube has not yet been optimised yet for the new iPads ?

There have been a few updates since the release of the new iPad, but I don’t think they have fully updated to optimize the newest generation.

Had to uninstall the dreadful official app. Too many ads.

And it can't remember that I always want the max resolution. Always changes the default to the lowest one. Or 720p.

Going to use this one (limited to 720p), despite the lags I experience in it.

It's funny how Protube was able to show even 4K before it was pulled from the Apple Store...

Why Google always has to release these garbages for iOS?

YouTube looks fine to me for the most.
The only thing that bothers me on my 12.9” is the status bar not hiding.

Is that an issue with the 3rd gen only? The status bar hides in full screen YouTube on my 2nd gen 12.9.

Yup, it definitely looks awful compared to my other devices. Google is a POS company

Is there any alternative to the YouTube app for iOS? In Windows 10 there’s one called MyTube that many consider very good but not sure about iOS.

iOS doesn’t use YouTube V9 codec for anything higher than 1080p.

Exactly this. It's just plainly annoying that Apple is still not supporting some of the latest condecs and standards...
Nevertheless, it's the same on my Samsung KS8000 4k HDR TV. The app maxed out in 1080p...:(

Has anyone noticed if you use the YouTube App and load a video, not long after it plays, up pops the status screen (the screen you see if you tap on the screen) all by itself. This happens continuously roughly every 20-30 seconds. It’s very annoying as it darkens the screen and places all the playing controls etc over the top of the video. I can not fathom how to stop it doing this.

Yes, I’ve had that problem occasionally. The other day it was constantly flashing the pause button. After switching WiFi routers the issue went away. I thought that was a little odd since the stream seemed to be sufficiently buffered via the visual indicator on playback timeline.

I have this problem constantly. Both in the original iPad Pro 9.7” and in the new IPad Pro 11”.

Thanks guys....
It’s driving me nuts. Just wish I knew what was effecting it my end. I doubt it’s the router as that hasn’t given me any issues with any other equipment.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one having this problem! Thought my touch screen was getting faulty or something and registering ghost inputs. Drives me mad!

I noticed YouTube looked like crap on my new 12.9
I changed the resolution to 1080 and it looks great now, for some reason, it was on 360p

I wonder how people deal with Amazon Prime, Netflix, Vudu, and so forth that are “only” 1080p on the iPad.

Netflix looks stunning on iPad Pro (watching Planet Earth II right now) — and it features HDR when available. It’s not 4K because the iPad Pro display is not 4K but it clearly takes advantage of its resolution.

Oh, I agree that it looks nice. But I can also stand to watch YouTube at “only” 1080p.

I stopped going to You Tube long time ago. Most of the videos are made by people who have no idea of what they are doing. Try Vimeo. Much much better quality - if you are on WIFI. Most cellular plans do not allow for more than 720 streaming.
