One of the Best Buys in Virginia Beach said they had about 20 of each to start the day. They had a few 64 gb ones left at 3:30 this afternoon. The rest were gone.

My local BB was sold out of the 64GB models, had about a dozen 32GB models, and almost off their 16GB models. The rep said that everyone went for the larger capacity models first, it seems. No wanted the 16GB models. I asked if he thought Apple made a mistake by choosing small HD and he did not come out and say it, but I felt he wanted to say "yes."

Personally, I think they should have started at 64GB and then had the 128GB and 256GB models.

That is interesting.

I really thought the 499 model would well out do the others.. but I guess the set up work out even better than expected. They create a low end model with a perfect price point that probably makes them little to no profit, but then most people go for the upgraded products with significant additional profit.

Not surprising. CNN did a fluff piece on the iPad asking readers to post their comments regarding if they were planning on buying the unit. Out of 50+ posts, I had to struggle to find ONE post that remotely defended the unit. Everyone else completely GOT IT.

Remember, people bought the cube too. Enough to start mourning clubs for the afterlife of the product.

The iPad may succeed, but as I've always said, it's shy some seriously obvious features before the public is going to buy the "better than a laptop" BS.

LMAO at the sad attempts to downplay how successful a launch the iPad is having. They've sold hundreds of thousands of them and this is just the first day.

Yes I believe the iPad will be Job's downfall. I still can't believe they killed the cube!

Believe it or not, Apple Tysons still had....

No, he said the store had sold zero. It wasn't him, they had their full allocation in stock. He said that specifically. No reason to try and "sugar coat" it. I just thought it was a bit surprising, and a little disappointing as a dev. I'm really curious where this thing is going.

all three models still available at 6:45PM!

Lots of interest.... but I did not see a single person ask to buy in after looking at the display units. I was there like for 45 minutes.

I didn't even buy one! Not like on day 2 of the iPhone rollout. I played with the iPhone for 5 minutes, and a staff member asked if I had any questions - to which I replied do you have any in stock. LOL

Like what it has to offer a little bit. But as of right now, there wasn't anything that wowed me as of yet - even for the 16GB model. I think that many are waiting and see where the content and apps go - myself included.

Will be interesting to hear just when the initial supply runs out. And how sales go over the next couple of months or so. Do remember a Apple rumor on here that Apple was looking at price adjusts depending on how thing went with the iPad.

My take is that money is still tight for many folks - save the "TRUE" Apple fans - guess I need to turn in my Apple Fan Card now! LOL

something about the OP's story doesn't sit right with me. I doubt a sales person would tell you that he hasn't sold a single one yet. I would like to know which Best Buy this supposedly took place at and would be interested to call them to see if they have any left just to see the validity of his claim

so now you are resorting to calling the OP a liar? gotta love the 'tudes of the members here. sheesh. EVEN IF his story was untrue, I certainly wouldn't claim in public that he is lying. how tacky. Man up, dude.

If someone says something untrue, it's wrong to publicly call them out on it?

Hey could be true if Apple Tysons still had them available at 6:45PM today. You have to keep in mind also a lot of folks had no real idea that Best Buy was a rollout partner - and may have not known that particular Best Buy was a store-in-a-store location.

And after 6 hours it would be interesting to see if that Best Buy still had their allotment still in stock though. Can't think that Apple would not have made sure their stores were taken care of.

many things that people say are opinion--not fact.

Many things people claim are true, but you are unwilling to believe, are ALSO true.

ANd sometimes, yes Virginia, people even LIE!!

But to assume without proof, that someone is lying here, and call them on it, is reprehensible, immature behavior IMO. If my opinion isn't to your liking, I have other opinions...

My son and I just got back from the Best Buy in Centennial, CO. Expected at least a small crowd, but three of their four demo units were free. The other was being played with by a BB employee. I got the 3G and 3GS on launch day, but the iPad hadn't really interested me as much. Went to the store to hold one and see if it would change my mind. My son (13 years old) and I played with them for a few minutes and neither of us were very excited by the product.
As we went elsewhere in the store, I kinda kept an eye on the iPad area to see how many people were checking it out. Never saw more than one customer in the 30 minutes I was in the store.
I'm sure Apple sold a ton today and their stores were packed, but the interest at BB in Centennial, CO mid-afternoon today was practically non-existent.

I live in San Diego County. I just spoke to an employee at the La Mesa Best Buy, which is the Best Buy closest to me. He told me they have several iPads left in stock, including "plenty" of 64GB models. But he also told me that they have sold quite a few too. He declined to give a number.

I originally tried to call the Mission Valley Best Buy but nobody would pick up the phone.

I was at the one in San Marcos and they had approximately 35-40 of them at launch. When I got there around 12:30, they have about 15-18 left.

I don't know whether he was lying or telling the truth, but offering the opinion that he was lying is neither immature nor reprehensible. It's an opinion. What the OP stated was fact, not opinion. Don't let the big bad internet give you the vapors with all the rough manners and scary words.

Things couldn't be more different at the Brentwood location in St. Louis. I went in there around 3pm and the guy said they started with about 120 total. The case was down to 1 16GB, 2 32GB, and about 7 or 8 64s. He told me that the amount sent to each store depended on their sales figures of Apple products since they started carrying them. I guess "15 of each model" was just a minimum. Either way I didn't pick one up today, but I was impressed with out slick and snappy it was.

Fwiw I'm posting from an iPad. Why play with store demo when I can try it for 14 days and return to best buy without restocking fee?

I purchased mine at about 2pm and I was their fourth sale. The guy who sold mine has been there since open and he is the guy with the key to cabinet where they're kept. Lots of people playing on demo.

I've never seen the "comments" section on a mainstream news article that wasn't filled with some of the dumbest, narrow-minded crap on the internet. I can believe that a lot of people are disdainful, but your selection for crowd-sourcing is fail.

Best Buy definitely did zero advertising that they'd have the iPad at launch.

I've had two friends that were skeptical about the iPad go up to Best Buy today just to check it out and both of them ended up buying one.

I went to the same Best Buy (Mission Valley, San Diego?) around 1:30 and was also able to just walk up and buy an iPad. The salesperson told me that they had received 500 iPads and were down to their last 30. If it wasn't for this thread, I wouldn't have an iPad right now!

LOL! "vapors" -- sounds like something from Gone WIth the Wind. Not to worry, big guy, I've been online since 1985. I can survive the "scary" words doled out in abundance here.
