The one app I cannot do without in the moment. All others are either Apple apps or could work through browser. But I need Zoom. Will it work on M1?

And as other users have pointed out, the iOS version is so limited in its feature set that it can't be considered a replacement. It's really just for when all you need to do is watch a speaker. This is a very serious question. For a lot of people these days, Zoom is the most critical App. Zoom is not like most other apps - it has very very deep driver integration with the OS - which is why it crashes so much on Macs. And the remove the background feature will only appear if Zoom thinks it's running on certain processors. So unless someone can report first hand that this works, I would not assume it.
I agree, it's encouraging to see an image of a Zoom chat on the product page. But there's no evidence of background removal, the version of Zoom running (could be iOS), or even if that's real at all or just a screen mockup, as is typically done in Apple marketing. There's zero information on the Zoom website about any proposed compatibility with ARM macs, although I've reached out to their tech support for a comment. You would think that if they were anywhere close to Mac AS support, they'd gain a lot of publicity by saying so.it’s literally on the product page for the macbook air ... yes it will work
Won’t work if it’s a Windows app. Needs MacOS or iOS.It wont, only if its already an arm windows app
Excellent! In the meantime it will work through Rosetta, right? Anyone here who can check on this already with their machines?WooHoo! I just heard back from Zoom tech support! They are targeting December 20th for the first version of Zoom that will work on the M1. No details on what version of Zoom this will be based on, but it's great to see.
Why wouldn't it be? If his work relies on Zoom, and he would like a new machine, this is a completely reasonable question. Is this a serious question?
Ooooh, controversial!! ?Definitely works using Rosetta. FaceTime camera picture quality is noticeably better also.
Thanks so much, imMango. That's great news. We seriously need a website where we list SW Rosetta2 compatibility.Definitely works using Rosetta. FaceTime camera picture quality is noticeably better also.
