The idea is simple: make the iMac G3 better but not ridiculous. Here's what I plan to do:
Stock motherboard replaced with intel motherboard from later Mac Pro or *hackintosh-able
Stock Hard drive replaced with SSD
Stock optical drive replaced with SuperDrive
You'll notice I didn't add CRT...
I recently bought anindigo imac g3/500 from 2001. I want to upgrade the RAM and hard drive and clock the cpu to play some retro games and watch a movie/ read mails. i thought this model came with a 16mb ATI rage pro ultra card because of how it was stated on everymac.com but on the backside of...
Hi there
First post here after a LOOOOOOOOOOONG while
So recently I rescued a Rev A iMac G3, running Mac 0S 8.6 and the problem I have at the moment is, my optical drive doesn't work and finding a second unit to be used as a spare is a bit troublesome as in the country i'm from (Bangladesh)...
Hello there. Got a iMac 600 MHZ summer 2001 that I recently upgraded to a Inland 128 GB SSD with a IDE to SATA converter board. Also install 768 MB of RAM. I installed Mac OS 9.2.2 on it. Did see a little bit of a different speed wise. My issue is every time I boot into the system, it gives me a...
Hi, I have an old (2000 ish) iMac G3 which my good lady used to use on a dialup basis.
I fired it up, the machine runs fine.
I plugged in an Ethernet cable, my router sees the iMac and gives it an IP address from its DHCP pool
I can ping the iMac from other devices on my home network, so far...
So I understand the G3's capabilities are... not particularly broad, especially relative to newer and faster PPC chips. That being said I am pretty uninformed when it comes to the plethora of software that both runs and has been optimized to run on the thing. Emulators in particular peak my...
I am honestly shocked. I keep reading forums and articles that say the G3 is significantly worse than other PowerPC's and underpowered for even basic tasks these days (internet in particular). I just want to put something out there that's fully up to date and says otherwise. My machine has a 400...
Given that the iMac G3 should be a pretty quiet computer given that its fanless and convection cooled the hard drive noise in mine is actually annoying me quite a bit tbh.
I upgraded the drive a good few years back to an 80GB 7200RPM IDE . It works fine performance wise, but can’t help but...
Hi all,
Wondering if someone could help me. I got my iMac G3 DV Graphite out of storage a few days ago and have been playing about with Mac OS 9 again.
Found a load of wonderful abandoned ware and been reminiscing my childhood.
However, the problem I've noticed is that after installing a few...
Hi, I’m completely new to Mac and have an iMac PowerPC G3 that I have some questions about:
Am I supposed to update/upgrade, or is that ill-advised? Currently I see it is: Mac OS X version 10.4.8, Processor 400 MHz, Memory 384 MB SDRAM, Kernel Darwin 8.8.0
Via Airport I tried to connect to...
I have a 1998 imac, and it has a motherboard problem. From what I saw on the internet, this problem is very common in this model, but I don't want to change the board, I want to find out what is causing the problem and fix it. Does anyone have a tip?
Problem: When you turn it on, the light...

You've probably heard this a billion times, but I can't find any solution, so...
I have an iMac G3 (233 Mhz) That you could call tray loading, but it has no CD drive.
I can't manage to get past the infamous "?" folder, but I can remove the Hard Drive, and burn to it using my iMac G5 and an ATA...
Hey Does Anyone Have An Idea About What the Latest Version of OS X Is that Will Run Smoothly on an iMac G3 without lag and without working on it for months?
I recently got an iMac G3 (fully working!) For $20 from my friend, though he didn't have a keyboard or mouse for the computer. So I used just a generic keyboard that I had laying around. Everytime the computer booted into Mac OS 9, it would freeze after a while. I put a new HDD in it, and tried...
I finally got around to trying to upgrade the ram in my 400mhz iMac G3 with only 256mb of Ram (running tiger + 9.2)
I was given 2 old sticks of PC100 ram, in their package still.
I have the exact specs of the Compaq ram here
https://www.datamemorysystems.com/parts/compaq/323012-001/
I didn’t...
Just for fun, I’d like to see you all load the Macrumors homepage on your oldest Mac, maybe even a beige powermac.
I know some of you here own beige powermacs, and clamshell iBooks clocked even lower than any of my G3 Macs.
Here I’ve got it loaded (rather slowly but useable) on a late 1999...
I use IceweaselPPC and arctic fox on my 1.33 iBook G4 for daily Internet browsing. Not many use their PPC macs daily for this purpose for understandable reasons.
But What shocked me was the performance and usability of IceweaselPPC on my recently purchased 400mhz iMac with just 256mb of ram...
Ive got quite a bad situation here. I recently got a 400mhz iMac G3 with slot loading DVD drive (the late 1999 grape model) and the DVD started to play just fine without issue, but when I tried to eject the disc, I heard the whirring sound but nothing happened and the disc began to play again...
Recently I’ve been having this problem with some websites. Especially google sites like gmail and docs, is there a way to change the user agent to a newer browser like Firefox 56 in tenfourfox to trick the website into thinking I’m using a newer version of “Firefox”?
And there’s my new grape...
