Maybe it depends on the apps you selected? I've only tried putting Files and Messages as the top app so far.

Yeah.. I tried a combination of apps. I assume that Apple apps should perform that way, but nope... won’t work.

Another suggestion could be maybe having a Apple Pencil unlocks the inactive SplitView apps. I don’t have one though...

That’s awesome! Not sure why I’m not able to replicate that. The 2 apps in SplitView becomes inactive when the floating app appears.

If you can get this to work, that makes it even less compelling for 1st gen 12.9" users to upgrade to 2nd gen 12.9" iPads. Same RAM, same screen size, same keyboard etc., just missing the new processor and upgraded display. But for 9.7" Pro/Air2/etc. users, the 10.5" Pro is a much more compelling upgrade. New screen size/form factor, double the RAM, new bigger Smart Keyboard--these are all things that people complained about with the iPad Pro 9.7".

Umm.. the video @PBG4 Dude posted is the 1st gen 12.9” iPP which is the same as mine.

My apologies, I misunderstood your point.

Just tried again using only my finger and it worked the same as before; all 3 apps were active.

So using my 10.5" Pro now. I upgraded from a 9.7" Pro. My thoughts on this iPad:

- Screen while only 0.8" bigger just seems bigger than it is, it's hard to explain but it feels much roomier than the extra dimensions would suggest.

- I notice the difference in weight compared to the 9.7" despite this being only 32g heavier.

- Nice to have the Quad True Tone flash and upgraded iPhone 7 camera system.

- Touch ID 2nd gen works fine, is definitely faster than the previous gen.

- Speed/performance seems really good and does feel faster than the 9.7" but that could be down to the much higher refreshing screen (120hz vs 60hz) and you do notice this prominently. It's wonderful.

EDIT 1 - I don't know about anyone else (especially those coming from a 9.7" Pro) but does the screen show fingerprints easier for you? Seems to on mine.

EDIT 2 - Used the Apple Pencil. I'll say that there is an improvement although maybe not to the extent it's been made out to be by some reviews.

*Will update this post as I think of anything else/further opinions*

Might be a silly question but Multitasking options in Settings are all on and "Background App Refresh" is on too?

Valid question. Yes, they are on. Not sure what’s preventing it, hopefully the next update helps.

the box is nice :D

Is anyone running IOS 11 on the new 10.5" I am curious if you are having issues with searching YouTube? Also the other issue that I've had with iOS 11 on my 9.7 inch pro is that Plex will load the show, and after pausing and playing the show, the audio will play but no video plays. It's anyone else seeing this behavior?

Yes on mine the picture from the box is pre-installed on the device...
Its funny but I think the wallpaper image on the iPad pro is upside down when compared to the picture on the box. Same wallpaper but upside down... Lol! Just noticed it...

I saw the 10.5 in store today and to be honest it was very hard to notice the size difference between it and the 9.7". After a while you notice it but the difference (size wise) is minimal. My concern is that after the bezel free iPhone 8 comes out they bring that design language to the iPad next year.

Why is that a concern?

Very difficult to notice the size difference?

I have used a friends iPad Pro 9.7 many times before, own a 10.5 inch myself at the moment and I believe the difference is quite big. Maybe not when looking at pure dimensions but the feeling it gives compared to the old size. This screen and its size is amazing. A huge step up from the previous model if you ask me.

Just started playing with it..

First Impressions:

- Thing is gorgeous! The screen and speakers are amazing!
- Screen is a bit warmer than my Air 2, but I like it because I prefer a slightly warmer tone.
- You can tell the weight difference, but it's minimal.
- Screen is a finger print magnet!
- Is running a bit warm, right under the Apple logo at the back. Anyone else feeling the same ?
- Very fast touch response.
- Scrolling is smoother than before.
- iOS 11 running great

Coming from an Air 2, this is a big upgrade for me. No first impressions on the pencil yet since I literally just paired it!

Bottomline : This thing is a major GO !

Why the desire for 3D Touch on the iPad? I’m curious.

With this new drag and drop while being able to multitask more efficiently now... 3D Touch on an iPad seem far away, that’s if they do implement it.
I find it handy on the iPhone for shortcuts like new emails, sms, tweets, Spotify/Music playlists, Google Maps destination, Google Assistant (big one) etc.

It cuts out many steps to get to where I want & I think it would accompany the new multitasking features in this iPad nicely.

That is why I went for the 10.5 Pro, I already have a 12.9 Pro from last year.

I saved money over the new 12.9 AND got a new processor and display.

Yup, the difference is smaller than I expected. It's about the same weight as the Air 1, but I prefer the 10.5" Pro. It feels more solid, and easier to hold. It even feels a bit lighter, even though it isn't. Better weight distribution?

This is not uncommon when first setting it up. Downloading apps, restoring backups/etc will keep it warm for a bit until things settle back down into a normal pattern. I saw the same with my Air 2 and 9.7" Pro.

Brave. I've had enough bugs with apps I rely on with the 9.7" that I am waiting to see how they shake out in the Public Beta before jumping.

Yup, this is my impression as well. It's not a huge change, but a welcome one. I think it does a good job trying to balance various competing priorities (weight, battery, screen size, ability to hold it one-handed). Considering how much weight the iPad has shed since it was introduced at 1.5lbs, along with the auto-layout work to support multiple screen resolutions in the first place, it's a bit of an "about time" moment.

(Maybe someone will pounce on me for calling the 12.9" too big, which it still is, but I still like the idea of getting more real estate).
