I assume the bump in screen size means use of Microsoft Office apps will now require an Office365 supscription?

Has anyone who uses the Office apps received their 10.5" having upgraded from 9.7" device?

If so, have you been prompted to purchase an Office365 subscription due to the larger screen size? I'm assuming this will be the case but would like to have it confirmed.

I am confused. There is a free promo from Microsoft for office?
You can use all the Office apps for free on the 9.7". I believe the Microsoft policy is free for devices <10". I'm therefore interested in what happens when upgrading to the 10.5".

Upgraded from to 10.5 from my 9.7 and office still working.

Office probably hasn't been updated to "know about" the 10.5 model yet. Let's see what happens after the next Office 365 update.

so if I get MS Office365 from school- or because i have the Office365 for students, this wont affect me right?

Why is this?

Doesn't the model work of 'subscribe to get full functionality' on the 12.9" as well?

Maybe Microsoft's scared that the Pro will eventually kill its Surface line ;-)

Yeah i am still confused. I do remember trying a free version of Microsoft Word on my 9.7 model. But i always thought if you wanted all the features, you have to have a yearly subscription no? In other words you can only do a limited amount things with the free app, and if you want to do more. You subscribe to their service. Am i wrong?

Yeah that's what I thought and how it is normally. I use it that way on my iPhone SE and iPad Air 2

I think there might be basic functionality with tablets under 10 inches, I'm not sure as I've only really experienced the app with a subscription

I use the 9.7" Pro and haven't came across any restrictions although admittedly use only basic features.

I believe the main restriction, without a 365 subscription on devices 10">, is you are not able to create new documents, whereas you can on the smaller devices.

Here's an article on the subject.

"What Microsoft settled on to divide mobile and desktop users was screen size: specifically 10.1 inches. Anything smaller than that and users can pretty much do anything they want with the appropriate iOS, Windows, or Android app, including creating, editing, or sharing documents. But if you’re using the Office apps on a device whose primary screen is larger than 10.1 inches, Microsoft won’t let you create a new document, just edit and view an Office document created elsewhere."

Typical Microsoft, complicating and fragmenting an otherwise superb product and straightforward subscription model!

Sorry but MS Office has been stolen by more people that we could ever count and I can not blame them for wanting to protect their "superb product". You would if you were MS.

I get that. They're some of the most iconic software programmes ever produced and a commercial success.

BUT.. come on, the view only and subscribe to create and edit would work on ALL Devices!

I understand they can't all be like Apple as Apple funds it by hardware revenue

No, just strategy. You can’t blame Microsoft for offering a superior product on their
own devices.
Apple should pick up its ‘ courage’ and release a professional iWork. I’m not surprised if they have a pro iWork working within Apple. But they aren’t bothered to release, only when deemed necessary.

My 10.5 is fully restored from my 9.5 and the free versions of Office are all working fine for now.

Starting and saving a new document is not an issue. Works fine.
I think they may have to update the app to implement the limitation.
