Code:
defaults write com.apple.finder QuitMenuItem -boolean true
stopped working? Dunno if just for Beta 3. This is pretty annoying.

No RAM usage in the Dock on DP3 :(

There's no ram-usage in the dock anymore, because ram-usage doesn't say anything anymore in Mavericks. They completely revamped memory-management system following a new philosophy. While previously they try to always have a much memory free as possible to prevent swapping. Now they load as much cache into the memory as possible and compress when needed. This will make the system much, much faster because it doesn't need to read everything from the disk at launch time. Now any unused memory is wasted memory.

In Mavericks, don't mind memory usage. Mind memory pressure and swap-file usage instead!

I wonder how long I'll have to wait until they make the notification center icon glow when there are unread notifications.

Totally random: I remember long ago Microsoft had a commercial for, I think, Windows 7, which had a feature where you could drag and drop windows onto different sides of the screen and they would resize so you could have two different windows/apps/whatever open side by side. Can you do this? Right now I just manually resize and place windows, which is pretty archaic.

There's an app called Moom, try it out

XProtect Updater not in Mavericks?

sudo /usr/libexec/XProtectUpdater
sudo: /usr/libexec/XProtectUpdater: command not found

From my Nessus scan:

The remote Mac OS X host includes Apple's XProtect software.
Safe Download definitions :
Current version : 2038

God, please don't give Apple such an idea! "Snap" is my most hated feature in Windows, but MS being MS, they give a (not obvious) way to turn it off; Apple wouldn't. And still in 99% of cases, I would be wanting to move a window off the screen and out of the way, NOT to have it suddenly take up half or all of the screen. Having said all that, it might just fit with Apple's still mad handling of multiple screens, given their apparent dislike of windows spreading over more than one.

It's not just you. In Mavericks they changed the namespace to com.apple.Finder.
Finder with a capital F. So:
Code:
defaults write com.apple.Finder QuitMenuItem -boolean true
will work.

It has been this way since beta 1.

Shouldn't the trash can in the dock drop the cheese grater look and adopt the new Mac pro look?

It works but you have to log out now.

They didn't remove it, it's more integrated with OS X as I understand, so there's no separate command anymore, it's in a system file somewhere.

Off topic i know, but i didn't want to start a dedicated thread for a simple questions.

When you add a location bookmark to the maps app, is this bookmark then available in the Calendar app? So for example I bookmark "Joe's House" in Maps, if i create an event in Calendar can i simply type "Joe's House" as the location and have the Inspector recognise it, or do i need to enter the full address/post-code (zip code for americans)?

Atleast for me, it doesn't seem to recognise bookmarks in the calendar inspector. It picks up contacts and general search suggestions only.

Apple won't do that, but it would be cool if using the 2013 Mac Pro would make the trash can look like the new mac pro.

By the way, is there any screenshot there of the login screen? Does it have this same grey background?

Thanks Mikhail. Do you remember when you heard this? Any ideas where I should look for more info?

Thanks, James.

Ah, that's a bit of a disapppointment as I was hoping to tag my university so I could get traffic/travel times. Guess I'll have to make a contact for the university with location then. Thanks a lot for checking!

I have the annoying problem that whenever I connect or disconnect my external display from my 2013 MBA all the icons on my desktop move around. I'm using 10.8, but I'm wondering if anyone using Mavericks can confirm this behaviour is finally fixed :)

It has to do with screen resolution. Your MBA is 1336x768 or 1440x900 depending on your screen size. Your display has probably a higher resolution, and that is causing problems. Next time: Connect the display and chose "extended mode". There will be no problem and you will be able to work on both displays. I only had this problem using Windows S***.

I am already using it this way, but the problem is that I use the biggest display as main display. I always make sure that the icons don't exceed the MBA screen size. But after disconnecting and connecting the icons are all over the place again. :(

Do you have or do you know any friends having a MBA so you can test it with the display. Try with 10.8 and 10.7 and see what happens.

Yeah, my wife also has the same problem with her MBP. it's not something that only happens with my new MBA, I've had the problem for years with different computers on different versions of OSX. I was hoping since one of the key features of Mavericks is "better support for multiple displays" it was finally fixed. :)

Even if you're not a developer, you can try running Mavericks beta, you can find them anywhere. Unfortunately, I don't have a MB in my house, so I can't test anything. Has this happened with only 10.8 ML or also with 10.7 Lion?
