Is it possible to get notifications on my iOS7 device show up on Mav, when my phone is in standby mode? Like missed calls, SMSs, or anything else I might have selected?

That would be a dream, but I don't think so. The best you can have right now is iMessage and even that sometimes have sync problems...

Strange.

Is normal file transfers quick to that drive?

I've never had a problem with any other Time Machine Backups. What typically takes minutes at the longest is now taking hours.

----------

I too had problems with Time Machine, left it overnight doing backup, took 13 hours to complete 20 GB.

But now it is back to normal. Maybe it needed time to figure things out?

I'm going to have to try this. I've had the drive plugged into my iMac the entire time and is still showing it has not completed a backup since 10/22... (Day Mavericks was released and I updated.)

I have even attempted to connect the drive via USB 2.0 and still will not complete a backup.

I read a post from someone having similar "slow Time Machine issues" in Mavericks and he ultimately wiped his Time Machine backup and started up a fresh new one, and it's been working fine and fast ever since.

It looks kinda the same to me, although I note we no longer have the buttons for mailing and printing the page. So if anything, it seems like it's gotten *more* simplified than I'd like. What else about it do you feel is "ruined?"

I'm not a big fan of how it white outs the whole page, I liked how reader in ML dimmed the page. The biggest inconvenienced for me, is that the text doesn't look as defined and popped out, it sort of looks like its fading into the pale, pastel background.

That's also one of my two "major" nits I have with Mavericks. I liked the "room lights dimmed" reader. The only place that "needs" a white background is the body of the article.

The other thing that bugs me is why all list-view columns, except the file/folder name, are gray. I see a possible rationale for this as making the names the focus in the list. But, anytime I'm using a list view, it's to see the information in the other columns. Making them gray just adds unnecessary eye strain. Those columns should be as easy to read at a glance as the names. OS X Feedback send on this one.

There's actually one more that was slightly annoying: the removal of the Time Machine menu bar status animation. I'm so accustomed to seeing it (and the "warm-fuzzy" it gave), that it was kind of a shock to see it go. It was something I had read about over the last few months and really didn't want to see it go.

However, after using Mavericks for a few days, the decision was a good one after all. It used to catch my eye every so often during the day - which made me go look and see what it was up to. That's something that doesn't really need attention, though. Time Machine was meant to be a "set and forget" technology, and I think removing the animation (a small but noticeable UI detail) reinforces that idea. If there's a problem, though, I would hope the status icon will do something eye catching.

During a backup, I would like to see the micro-size arrow in the micro-size gap be a bit more obvious than it currently is. If I do decided to check on Time Machine, I want to be able to ascertain its status at a glance. As it is now, I sometimes need to look a bit longer to see the little arrow (this is on a 15" Retina at 1440 x 900). OS X Feedback sent on this too (they do listen).

Going back go 10.8.5, for now anyway..

Mavericks, just like iOS7 is not quite ready for prime-time"

Found a few bugs display issyes with Dusk Utility.... Pesky Nofications, and tags that must be disabled one-at-at-time.

Hey I don't know if it's asked about before, but I no more see file info in finder's column view. Like resolution for pictures and duration for videos. And when I get the info of a file, in the more info section it says Fetching.. but doesn't fetch anything

The window opening and resizing is really annoying me.

By default when you open a folder it replaces the current open window (although CMD double click opens a new separate window) and this also imposes the previous window dimensions on the new folder.

I like my folders to open in windows of their own specific size to account for the number of items found in each. I end up having to resize windows all the time.

Also item ordering within a window seems glitchy. I find that despite being set to snap to grid and order by none, periodically an alphabetical sort will be imposed.

Account Info has been removed from the Mail Window menu. Now you need to right-click the mailbox. And the POP accounts are defaulted to sort by size and don't let you sort by anything else. Not exactly a deal-breaker, I know...

Am going back to Snow Leopard !

Hi All,
I am going to re-install SL. I installed Mav 24 hrs after release , on my 3 week old MacBook Air 13" 256, and all was PERFECT. For 2 days after install Mavrix, everything also seemed to work OK, except I couldn't print or scan on my Epson L210. But I am sure that if I spent an hour or so sorting out drivers etc I could have resolved that.

However after 4 or 5 days I noticed some strange things happening, especially the finder constantly notifying me that MagicPrefs was engaged or disengaged, and sometimes even when i was not using my Magic Mouse ! Sometimes the screen was totally unresponsive. Now 3 or 4 times when i start up I cannot even log in, unless I wait 20 -30 minutes ! The whole danged caboodle is slowing down, and I am getting more and more strange errors, especially with password logins. Sometimes I have to enter them 4 or 5 . . . . . or 10 time before the MBA will accept it - even though I know they are correct ! MagicPrefs is the ONLY non-apple App I have installed, and it is necessary because the standard Apply mouse prefs makes the mouse much too slow. Even after I uninstalled this, many glitches remain - so not sure if MagicPrefs had anything to do with it.

Overall I am very very upset by Apple release of this revised OS, which clearly is not fully de-bugged yet.

Shame on you, Apple. Now I know why it was free !

How does a 3-week old MBA even possibly run Snow Leopard…?:eek:

If you have found a way to install SL on the 2013 MBA, I'll all for it though… :p:p

I also have a 3-week old MacBook Air, and it's running Mavericks like a dream. And I have a heckuva lot more 3rd party software installed! It's rock solid, fast and smooth. And battery life was good before, and now it's even better!

Sounds to me like something's wrong with Mikec69's hardware... get that fixed/replaced under warranty!

Pressing command-z in mail after deleting messages actually un-deletes them now, similar to how it has always worked in Finder with files.

Sorry Guys - was well upset off at that time, and not thinking 100% clearly.

I meant to go back and re-install ML of course. Will go back to 10.8.5 (or whatever version was installed when I bought it just 3 weeks ago !)
Interesting that since I deleted MagicPrefs (and all the prefs and multiple plists), and 'repaired Disk permissions' (in Disk Utility) the problems I had have gone away - at least for last 24 hrs.

After repairing disk permissions I am also able to print to my Epson printer again . . . Hmmmm !

Still think I'm going to go back to 10.8 though, even just so I can get my properly coloured folders on the desktop again, instead of the silly little coloured 'Tag' dots ! I need to be able to find these quickly when I have a customer standing right beside me in our shop - and I don't see the small dots quickly enough. All our customers are color-coded for speed of service.

I will report again in 2 - 3 days if problems reoccur.

Yep, those small dots are just awful.

Drag and drop DRAG!

I can't drag images from Safari and Mail anymore to my desktop or any other Finder directory... This really sucks as some of my business and most of my spare time revolve around picking funny images from the web =)

In Mavericks I have to "Save Attachment" or "Save Image" and that is sloooow when I need speed...

Any wise recommendations?

Try again? It still works fine for me.

Dragging images from a Safari window to my desktop most certainly works -- I do it all the time and it still works happily in Mavericks. Reboot and try again!

getting poor battery life ..

my mac was 100% at 7, and i've used it lightly, browsing with safari and nothing running in the background but messages, and it has dropped to 82% since then.

I was just able to watch several HD videos in Quick Look that played normally without any of the skipping or stuttering issues I was experiencing before. Hopefully it stays that way.

Although on a slight downside, I was having issues with folders in Finder earlier. I would create a new folder and nothing would appear below the folder. Nor would it let me rename the folder at all. It was weird, it was a nameless folder without any labels below it.

What does the battery dropdown or activity monitor report as using excessive energy?

If an app is using a lot of power it will show up in that drop down like in the screenshot below.

The beach ball thing is really annoying... This is actually the first time I've gotten it since I installed it, and it doesn't affect anything other than performance, but I got a frozen beach ball while using Max and it persisted for about 20 minutes, although I was able to use my computer just fine otherwise. I had Max, Chrome, and Word open, and since it happened while I was using Max I wonder if it had something to do with CoreAudio. Next time it happens I'll kill CoreAudio and see if it persists, although even if that does fix it, I don't know where that would get me as far as actually solving the problem goes. Other than that my system seems to be working fine on my MBP and my Vivobook. I had some problems with my Logitech mouse working intermittently occasionally but that seems to be solved with the latest update (3.8).

As a few others have stated, I also miss the old coloring in the finder where the entire file or folder was colored, rather than just a dot next to it like it is now. I'm guessing there will never be a way to restore the old behavior but it's not a huge deal for me.
