BIND Missing???

Upgraded last night, and didn't have much chance to play around. Noticed today, it looks like they removed BIND (DNS Server) and find from CLI is updated. Custom plists are removed, but that's nothing new from Apple updates.

It looks kinda the same to me, although I note we no longer have the buttons for mailing and printing the page. So if anything, it seems like it's gotten *more* simplified than I'd like. What else about it do you feel is "ruined?"

I'd been using the Custom Reader II to customize the way the text from Safari Reader is laid out. And it still appears to work in Safari 7.0, but I need to adjust page width in its settings to center the text. I'm sure that developer will update that extension when Mavericks drops.

I notice that Custom Reader II seems to be working fine now, with the final release of Mavericks and Safari 7.0. Very slick extension, allows you to customize the Reader view in many ways.

Anyone with a photo or picture as wallpaper not agree the dock is ugly?

(I meant a side dock. With a 13-inch I can't afford the space for a bottom one).

Having a lot of problems with Quicklook and playing videos. Doesn't matter if they are .mp4 or .mov, all of them are choppy. Pretty annoying, I use QL all the time.

QuickLook of videos (MP4 and MOV) is working fine for me. Smooth as butter, no issues at all.

I also notice that QuickLook of animated GIFs is working a lot smoother than it did in Mountain Lion. This is stock QL behavior, no third party QL plugin installed for this capability.

Messages (iChat) is now missing Theatre mode for sharing documents/images whilst in a Video conference... anyone?

Noooo! I loved iChat Theater. Not just for sharing documents and images but for watching movies together, too! Now the only option that appears is to send the video file to the other person. No more simultaneous watching? Boooooo...

The only other app/service I know like iChat Theater is: http://www.rabb.it/
But it's in private beta now, relies on Facebook login, and is (currently) Mac only.

Man, I wish we didn't lose iChat Theater. :( Reminds me of when we lost the super cool Photo Mosaic screensaver when Mountain Lion came out. Why does Apple remove these cool things, when they are working just fine? :(

Apple should have just bought out Cinch and Totalfinder. These two programs should have been part of OS X in the beginning.

I have a 2013 airport extreme and I have noticed my download speeds have increased significantly, and I only have a 2008 macbook. I am getting 6-7 mb per second on my torrents. Never reached those speeds with ML.

Good for you. It's still choppy for me.

The + button on the left of the safari url bar now puts the page in the reading list instead of opening the drop-down box for adding to bookmarks. That one is niggly.

Time Machine icon change

Not sure if this is already known;

The TM icon on the top right of the screen is not animated as in previous versions of OSX. The icon is also changed.

as per figure :

I do miss it. I imagine they decided it was distracting. If they must leave the animation out, they should make the status a bit more obvious than the micro-arrow in the micro-gap.

Leave feedback here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html They do listen.

The only thing that bugs me is I'm not able to go through the pages of my launchpad as smoothly as I did back in mountain lion. Other than that, my experience with Mavericks has been a pleasant one. :)

Every time I finish downloading something, progress bar doesn't disappear from docked folder.

And I hate side dock casting shadow on application window

Trash looks odd

I'm in the process of emptying the trash on a large external hard drive. The progress bar is completely full and the item count is negative and rising. I'm a little bit worried!

Can anyone confirm if you update to Mavericks…does it update your iTunes?

Also i wanna know the compatibility for XBMC Frodo?

There's a separate update that updates iTunes to 11.1.2 and it is available for Mountain Lion as well.

What is the final build of Mavericks?
Mine says 13a603 and I want to make sure mavericks installed correctly. I had GM build on prior.

Mavericks Time Machine issue?

After upgrading I tried multiple times to back up to time machine (wireless, via the latest generation time capsule) and it was basically inoperable. Out of a total backup of 24GB it took hours and hours to reach 10GB, at which point I gave up.

The way I got around it was to start my backups to the time capsule from scratch - it wound up being much, much faster (like, 2 hours total) for the whole 45GB fresh backup.

Just FYI, if anyone else is having post-upgrade backup problems

Am I the only one receiving repeated updates for the same app?
It seems to happen when an older version of an App still resides somewhere in the Applications folder. People updating iWork Apps have reported similar behaviour.

It looks like the older version is preserved during the update and placed in a new folder. iWork '09. Maybe the same also happens with iLife. Do you notice a new folder in your Applications folder?

Gives the opportunity to test the new App or go back to the old version without reinstalling. The original files are altered when opened with the new version of the App so making a back-up or creating duplicates for testing may not be a bad idea.

For those reporting about iWorks Apps -deleting the older version has resulted in the update notification in the App Store disappearing but doing so may perhaps be postponed until satisfied with the way the new App works.
