People generally don't come on here to sing Mavericks praises. People will post when they have a problem, not when things are running smoothly. Out of the total number of people who have downloaded Mavericks, I would say the vast majority of them are happy with it.

And you have those figures in front of you ? Ridiculous statement to make .
Never had problems in the past , maybe my turn for grief this time .
Its buggy and has very little on it , no wonder it was free.
There's nothing here anyone would have been happy paying for .

True, Apple talked about Mavericks like it was something we've never seen
before. In the end, they f'd up the look of Safari Top Sites and Notes.

iLife got updated, but that's free anyway.

The under the hood improvements and the new memory management are worth the £19.99 price tag alone! Mavericks is much more efficient. In my eyes it's Snow Leopard II.

10.9 All the Little Things!

My experience so far has been 100% perfect. Watched the Keynote this morning at 2am. Yawned, took extra whisky, and slept like a dog. Home from work at 7pm. Checked this forum and decided to give it a go.

Downloaded Mavericks from Thai app store onto my 2 week old Macbook Air 13", over my home domestic wifi (nominally 8mb line - Ha ha !). Took 1 hr 35 mins (8.30pm local here). No probs at all. Installed in 25-30 mins, re-started as instructed, and everything seems to be exactly as it should be.

If all is OK after a couple of weeks I will also install Mavrix onto my (almost 6 year old) iMac, which is getting a bit long in the tooth now, and could do with speeding up ! Will replace mid-next year anyway. Might even try to put it on my old white MacBook also, which is dreadfully slow now.

Am so astonished with the Flash drive performance and battery life in the Air - just have to get a similar spec'd iMac.

Well done Apple - it might not be a HUGE OS change, but for me it is at least a noticeable improvement over ML and has freed up a bit of Flash space also. Everything seems a little 'snappier'. Will watch and record if it increases the 10.5 hour battery life any further :) , and report on any small (or large) glitches in 24 or 48 hrs.

All Apps opened up and seem to work perfectly, and Adobe CS6 Ps and AI are definitely a little more responsive. Had to re-install Java first, but it warned me about doing that anyway.

I do NOT like the little coloured 'dots' next to all the folders on my desktop - MUCH prefer the old coloured backgrounds to folder names :( Dots are much more difficult to see, probably old eyes. Hope somebody comes up with an App to get this back to ML style !

This post is too long/rambling now, going back to play with the Air & Mav.
G'night all.
Mike

It looks like it has 4.1, and some of 4.2.

Depends on your graphics card. Is yours one of the top cards to confirm that it only supports that much? Mine isn't. It's the 320M, but it still shows that it supports some of 4.0, 4.1, and 4.2.

Hi All,

Here is a couple things that I've noticed that are really bugging me, I hope that Apple may bring back these features:

-3 Finger Swipe to show mission control. You now have to lift your fingers to close it. I'm so used to not lifting my fingers!

-Can't swipe between calendar months. You have to use CMD + Arrow.

-Safari seems to not format pages correctly. Such as with MacRumours. I end up having to zoom in, but then it looks bad :( It also reloads pages every time I swipe back. Grr!

Overall I like the performance improvements, but feel like Mavericks lacks the streamlined interface that ML had.

Hi everyone,

If I choose 'free upgrade' from the app store, does it download and install automatically or can I just download it and install it at a time more convenient to me?

Like copy it to a external drive and just leave it for a couple of weeks till I have more time?

Yes, you just quit the installer when it finishes downloading, it will be sitting in your applications folder. But why? Just download it form the app store when you need to do it. Apple aren't suddenly gonna change their mind and start charging for it, that would be a PR disaster.

Guys,

If I install Mavericks, will my applications be restored? I use Matlab and some others, so will they still be there or do I need to install them again?

Autocorrect gone banaNAS?

I set up autocorrect to turn 'JOhn' into 'John', because I type like that after a few...

In Mavericks it tries to fix it whether I mess up the case or not. In other words, I get a blue pop-up every time I write my name. So now autocorrection is not case sensitive?

All apps and data will remain. You won't need to reinstall anything other than Java, and you will get a prompt for that the first time you launch a Java app.

Is there any basic instructions for dictation?
I tell him ‘period’ to at the end of the dictate phrase and it does nothing!
I tell it ‘next paragraph’, and it goes to!

That wasn't my screenshot; I don't even know how to check :) (not that I've upgraded my good system yet anyway!)

Having a lot of problems with Quicklook and playing videos. Doesn't matter if they are .mp4 or .mov, all of them are choppy. Pretty annoying, I use QL all the time.

Also, navigating thru folders in Launchpad is really choppy as well. I hope they fix these issues soon.
