Ive got a 23" Cinema Display (aluminium) connected to my MPB2011, and Mavericks runs fine except the dock doesn't return to the macbook after I've initiated it on the external screen...

After upgrade my 2012 mac mini power light no longer deigns to pulse when I put the machine to sleep; it just stays lit :(

Right, when I used to double-click on a picture, after viewing it and closing it, in Finder it would then go to the 'front' of the list to show recently opened.

How do I replicate this in Mavericks?

If I view by 'recently opened' it just changes everything.

Hope you understand what I mean.

Forgive me if this isn't new, but when you highlight (annotate) in Preview, the highlighted sections now look like it was done by hand, as opposed to perfect rectangles over the text.

Press cmd + j and change "Sort By:" to "Date Last Opened".

Dictation on iBooks

I can't believe how well they have come along. I picked the Siri voice (Samantha) and this is way better than I ever heard on previous versions since the update. I'm actually rating this as good as Vocaloid, but with English and that's not a trivial task....

Scratch that, it was a read aloud book, and damn if the Emperor's New Clothes has a Siri sound to her... Still it's definitely a nice feature.

Every time I finish downloading something, progress bar doesn't disappear from docked folder.
Image

Yes, this is really annoying. Also, occasionally the icons in my Applications stack turn into the default app icon, and won't fix themselves. Seems both are the result of the same bug: Stacks are not refreshing properly.

The only way to (temporarily) fix these issues is to kill the Dock.

For some reason an prated version of Safari is included with Mavericks, (if you do a clean install).

Version 7.0, however an older verso is only available on the Mac App Store when you upgrade.

Anyone know why?

Also, install time "Progress" bar is not only estimated, its way off... takes a long time at the end of install... "i minute" feels like 3 minutes.. and if your trying to download via the Recovery Partition, don't even bother about checking the time left as its meaningless. Its not even a true estimate.

Another thing, from Recovery Partition, Disc Utility opens in a small window temporarily hen enlarges.. Strange behaviour...

Thank you very much :D

Only real narks I have found so far since upgrading are:-

Longer boot times (this could be because its new and still bedding in if it is possible for an OS to do that)

The desktop appearing and then the dock appearing some 30 to 40 seconds later (I dont know if this is by design for Mavericks but it wasn't happening under ML)

Late 2012 MacBook Pro with 8gb of RAM.

Notifications

I know you can disable Notifications on a (per-site) basis in System Preferences, Notifications, its rather annoying, if you know you want to disable all..

Why isn't there an option for this ?

It drives my nuts to see notifications added (like MR) appear first in Safari, Notifications, only me having to go in and remove them in Safari's Preferences, Notifications.

When visiting a supported site, whichever option you choose, either "Allow" or "Deny", its still added to Preferences, Notifications in Safari. I know their in the list as "Deny", but their still listed.

Makes no sense. Wouldn't you want to disable them in the first place, instead of having to get them first ??

Scrollbar settings in System Preferences

I noticed that scrollbars in Safari weren't disappearing like they're supposed to. So, I went to System Preferences > General, and put the radio button under "Show scrollbars" to say "When scrolling." Closed out the window, went back to Safari and noticed they were still there. Closed Safari out, reopened it, and reopened the last page I was on, only to notice that the scrollbars are still there. Opened System Preferences back up to see that the option for scrollbars had been switched back to "Always." This is quite annoying. I closed out Safari completely and the only Finder window I had opened, I closed that too, thinking maybe it switched back because I had a window open that was still showing scrollbars and that the setting couldn't be changed with a scrollbar that was active. Ya know? Anything that I could do to see where I might be able to fix the issue. I changed the setting again, but this time kept the System Preferences window open, thinking maybe the radio button would change back again even without closing the window. I opened up Safari, and noticed the scrollbars were still there but that the radio button hadn't been changed back yet in System Preferences. I closed System Preferences and reopened it under the General pane to notice that the radio button had been changed back to "Always"...again! Wow, this is annoying.

Help? :(

This is only slightly annoying. Happens all the time in LP, folders getting stuck half open/closed.

Time Machine SLOW!

After upgrading I tried multiple times to back up to time machine (wireless, via the latest generation time capsule) and it was basically inoperable. Out of a total backup of 24GB it took hours and hours to reach 10GB, at which point I gave up.

The way I got around it was to start my backups to the time capsule from scratch - it wound up being much, much faster (like, 2 hours total) for the whole 45GB fresh backup.

Just FYI, if anyone else is having post-upgrade backup problems

Is anyone else having speed issues with Time Machine? I'm running a wired setup direct to my an External Seagate HDD via FireWire 800. It is taking hours for even small ~1.5 GB backups. . . Anyone have any similar experiences?

Strange.

Is normal file transfers quick to that drive?

Found a quirky UI glitch in the Setup Assistant/Migration Assistant. Notice the checkboxes at the bottom? The "Applications" and "Computer & Network Settings" checkboxes are cut off and not fully "grown" like they should be.

Is it possible to get notifications on my iOS7 device show up on Mav, when my phone is in standby mode? Like missed calls, SMSs, or anything else I might have selected?

No wonder they offered this upgrade for free. I feel like there's only minute differences between Mavericks and ML.
