I thought that having the battery percentage was a feature in 3.0 but I can't find it anywhere, am I mistaken or just stupid?

ChrisN

I was crossing my fingers, but yet again, it was not included... Bah. I was thinking about jailbreaking my phone, just to get that feature... I don't really care about the 3rd party apps, not anymore...

many many many.

Between the 2 replacement iPod Touches, 2 Original iPhones, and an ungodly number of 3G replacements, I'm not sure I could even guess. Double digits.

The Applications you downloaded are locked to the device you bought them on now. That is the only device that can re-download them for free.

This prevents you from giving me your username and password and allowing me to get your apps for free, along with 100 other people. There is no protection on the iPhone to limit the number of times an app can be downloaded, however iTunes will check to make sure that your computer is one of the 5 authorized computers for your account. It's all about ensuring each purchased app is only on your authorized devices (sync'd by computers you've authorized).

This wasn't a problem until 3.0 which allows you to log into multiple accounts on your iPhone.

Try downloading a new application to that device. Then delete it. You can re-download it directly to the device for free.

In the settings -> general -> home button you can now set the double click to the new search feature or, my favorite, camera.

Nice find. I tried it twice, once with a free app and once with a paid and I got the "re-download for free" popup. Going to keep trying and see if it hold s true for a larger sample.

Under the new Messages tab in settings you can FINALLY turn off message previews! I'm sooooo happy for this one! Then, when you recieve a message, it just displays the persons name and "text message."

EDIT: Under the iPod settings you can no longer select the audio book speed? Did this get eliminated or moved?

It should, when the rumor first came out I tried to figure out the pattern. What I described above worked in every case and none of the other theories held up.

I have an original iPhone, my 3G and my girlfriends original iPhone. Each device could download the apps that device had originally purchased but the others had to be verified via a computer that was authorized to my account. Tested it with dozens of applications. Let me know if you find something different.

It really only affects people like me with multiple devices, people that have to exchange, and people that upgrade. Kind of sucks, but it'll help developers know that their apps aren't being easily pirated...

Makes sense, thanks for clarifying this.

I'm kind of wondering about this as well. There doesn't seem to be 100 new features in this OS3.0 build. I wonder if anything will change by Wednesday next week.

noticed that you get the area the call is coming from under recent calls... that's a nice touch.

This one is kind of a bummer but doulbe tapping the caps button no longer enables perminant caps it just capitalizes one letter and goes back to lower case lettering

It's in keyboard settings. Off by default.

New features in safari. Tap and hold a link now brings up a menu with "Open" "Open in new window" and "Copy" which copies the link location.

Clicking an iCal link (subscription calendar link) will ask you if you want to subscribe to that calendar.

You have to enable CAPS lock in the keyboard settings.

you can finally edit the home button preferences on the iPod Touch

i guess you need a faster processor to disply battery life by percentage. This is a big **** you apple. They have no way to say this is even remotely hardware related. neither is anything else except magnetometer. Somebody needs to hack the 3gs firmware and get the features for us 3G'ers!!!

on the iPhone's iPod, if you select a song by going Artist->Album->Songs, then the go back button on the top left displays the artist's name, rather than just "albums"

i have a feeling that att is behind the 3.0 feature screwing of us 3g owners because they want us to throw all of our money at the new iphone so they get a new 2 year contract with us
