contact edit

im not sure if anyones posted this, but you can now edit a persons contact info from a text message, rather than having to go through your contacts app, or selecting contacts from the phone icon.

i found this out by adding a new # to a contact and seeing the option to delete the old one.

before i think you could only add to a contact.

one thing i wish the would have fixed is, the option to edit the "calender" option with in calender (i.e. home, work, etc) you cant edit it once its saved.
i have different calenders and end up having to delete a new event and re-making it to add it under the right calender... a bummer when i make new appointment for clients every day for different work projects.

my gps seems to be limited to nearest street location, before if would show off street location

anyone else see this?

I would file a bug report. The GPS now has a feature where it shows the address/street you're on. But if you're not on a street that would really screw with that feature. I wonder why Apple didn't account for that...

Bluetooth connectivity when playing VVM

I have a Pioneer DEH-P7000BT stereo in my vehicle. The hands free for dialing and going off-hook worked seamlessly with iPhone, with the exception of voicemail. Prior to 3.0 if I played a visual voicemail, the audio would not automatically route via the Bluetooth connection. I would have to manually change input on the Pioneer from "Tuner/USB" to "Phone", in order to hear the voicemail. Now with 3.0 if I am listening to music and tap the voicemail it automatically routes the audio to the stereo, plays the message. When I close the VVM app the stereo goes back to playing whatever input source I was listening to prior to playing the VVM message. :)

"You can now share a contact" - I already found this and it was added to the list a while ago.

Another new feature/change:
Calendar - the week now starts on Monday, whereas before it would start on Sunday.

mine hasnt changed to start at monday, still starts on sunday.. thank G-d

I noticed that caps lock stays on even if you space. Before, it would revert back to lowercase and you would have to double tap it again to enable it again.

Also, the cursor is more reliable. Before, when the magnifying glass came and I tried to move it, the cursor would be off by one when I released. Now it releases it where I leave it and where I want it.

It acts the same as it did with the old firmwares, no caps did not go off after you press the space bar.

I welcome this as well. I hated when I would release from the magnifying glass the cursor would look like it jumped, but really it just stayed where I left it.

My caps lock went off anytime I pressed space. Weird.

However, I noticed a little glitch. When I viewed my inbox in landscape mode, the inbox folder was har to reach since it would flick down and stat down. It bounces back up and the second folder is what is shown first.

If you press the caps lock once, type a letter and press space, the caps lock will turn off, but if you double tap the caps lock button, it'll stay on caps lock.

Kind of weird thing I noticed though, if you go to a text message it'll automatically start with caps lock on. Press space bar and it's off. Press caps on again and then space, it'll turn off again. Turn caps on, once more and this time it will stay on no matter how many times you press space bar. I wouldn't say this is any kind of feature by any means, but something weird I noticed though.

Maybe Mentioned...I searched but won't read all of these pages.

Maps

If you hit the locate button, the GPS will locate you. Wait til it finds you and hit it again. It will then use the compass to tell you which direction you are pointing/looking!!!

apparently im doing nothing about the updates.......i know i should update it, and will soon

Is there some compelling reason you don't just launch the app store and just hit "update all"? It's not like it takes an hour. LOL. It took you longer to take that screenshot and post the question about the TTY icon than it would to update your friggin' apps. Oy vey, dude!

Anyone else notice the extra RAM is VERY useful. For example, I can now open www.engadget.com, then open a second page with say, www.macrumors.com, and then go BACK to the first page (Engadget), and the page doesn't have to reload anymore like it did with my iPhone 3G!

Awesome! :)

Oops. Sorry. It might be, though, in that the 3.0 software ALLOWS the use of extra RAM? After all, it's a new version of Safari... :p

I still have a regular 3G right now, and after updating to 3.0, I have noticed that I can open a second browser and go back to the first browser without it having to reload if it is not a complex webpage. In other words, the phone allocates more RAM to Safari (or whatever they have changed, allows Safari to store more data than before the 3.0 update). I have used my 3G quite a bit since 3.0, and I am positive that my phone stores the first page much better now. I suppose this could be considered a new feature in OS 3.0.
