which means you were probably plugging it into the iPad, while now you need a cable with the adapterNo, I was and am frequently on the go.

it has already been tested with the older female adpater plus a lightnig to USBC cable, all purely Apple stuff, and it didn't work, which means that the new adapter is specifically neededWe don't know, no one has even tested the Pencil's Lightning adapter with a regular lightning cable.
And? So what? If a prospective buyer can't handle a small cable, then they have much bigger problems. You will no doubt be surprised to hear that I miss being able to easily charge my second-generation Pencil from something aside from the iPad. Everything has tradeoffs, and were I in the market for a new iPad, I would not have an issue with the iPad 10 using the first-generation Pencil. If it bothers you - fantastic. Don't buy it. There are plenty of other choices out there, both in and out of the Apple ecosystem.which means you were probably plugging it into the iPad, while now you need a cable with the adapter
A $15 pencil 2 knock-off would do the job perfectly for me if I were in the market for that iPad (and it works on every iPad except the first 2 generation pro and charges via USB C)And? So what? Then recommend that, as you like. I make use of the pressure sensitivity of the Pencil every day, and will recommend it for people who want more than basic use.A $15 pencil 2 knock-off would do the job perfectly for me if I were in the market for that iPad (and it works on every iPad except the first 2 generation pro and charges via USB C)

Well, I must say my own experience has been very different. I really wanted to love the first pencil, it seemed ideal for me (marking student papers, annotating PDFs, etc). But I didn’t find it as useful as I’d thought, for the reasons I outlined earlier, and quickly tired of it.the second revision is not so demonstrably superior that it's fair to call the first generation 'much worse.'
Im in the US so its a smaller upgrade cost.
I don't know, but jaded MR members probably aren't a good representation of sales. Is the reception to the 10 as flat as it’s been over here then?
That mirrors my experiences as well.I've got both Pencils, and the second revision is not so demonstrably superior that it's fair to call the first generation 'much worse.' While second-generation charging is convenient, first-generation isn't weird. So far as creativity goes, I'd argue that's much more due to the skill of the user rather than the medium they use, especially as the Air is not so significantly ahead that the base iPad is pointless (I have an M1 iPad and a 10.5, so I've got some experience with this).

I bet it will sell decently to people who can afford to upgrade a bit to get the newest style, but not all the way to the iPad Air. And that's really its reason for existing.I was talking generally, not MR members who turn their nose up at anything that doesn’t have ‘Pro’ in the name.

I predict that once Apple releases the next Pencil 3, which will support landscape cameras by having two small magnets instead of one larger centered magnet, the iPad 11 will get it as well.
I think its an in-between, but it may become the base model because the EU has said USB-C on everything. So is this the new ‘entry level’ iPad or just another filler iPad between the iPad 9 and the Air? It’s too expensive to be entry level and the Air is considerably better for just a bit more. In my opinion this iPad should have been £399.

Base model iPad would always make up ~80% of all shipped iPads. The price pretty much dictates that. Now with the release of the 10th gen iPad it would appear there is not much difference with it and the iPad Air besides the chip and RAM. Or is there more? Would not the 10th gen iPad take away sales of the iPad Air?
