Both! I have curl 7.68.0 (latest version) compiled with OpenSSL 1.1.1d (latest version) set to use the latest Mozilla CA certificates PEM file. So you can download anything even on Web 3.0. How it would work is you would download whatever the url is. That url can be anything, if it’s a web page the html or php, etc will be downloaded. If it’s a media file that will be downloaded.
This is really important for Mac OS X 10.3.9 because no one else has released a modern OpenSSL with modern certs, and a modern curl. A web browser is better, but this is the next best thing. And there can be instances when using something more efficient could be better then a web browser.

So what would a typical Web "browsing" process on 10.3 look like? Maybe URLs are retrieved via Safari, downloaded via PPCMC, and displayed as PDF images? Or could there be another way?
How could the Web retain its interactivity, if it is retained at all? Perhaps this could be a return to the style of Web 1.0, due to implementation limitations?

Decided to give PPMC a try on my 500mhz iBook G3. I can stream video, but it's a slide show. Downloading video doesn't seem to work. I get an error message saying "incompatible cpu subtype." I also end up with two separate files, an m4a and a mp4. When I play the mp4, I get a green screen. When I play the m4a, I get nothing.
I figured out why this happens. As your the first G3 user I’ve found to use this, can you test the next release?
Now for the slideshow, your running on a G3 500 MHz streaming 360p on OS X. It’s expected. I heard good results from another user with a 733mhz G4 and streaming was full speed.

Still have a lot of things on my todo list, but have some exciting news!
I just played back a YouTube video on Mac OS 9 QuickTime 6.1 transcoded with my FFMPEG to simple MPEG 4 Part 2. So I can finally add the feature, download video for Mac OS 9. Transcoding was at 1.2x so terrible but not too bad on my G4 1.42ghz. And it’s a full bitrate 480p video that works on Mac OS 9.
The 3GP can’t touch this quality, but I understand it is less resource intensive (even though I can transcode to the same settings now) and directly available without transcoding. The thing with the 3GP support right now is I can have it stream or download the 3gp via the link you get when copying the video from a browser using the Nokia N90 UA, but I still don’t know how to get the link otherwise from a normal YouTube link. Curl can definitely use the Nokia N90 UA to get the webpage containing the URL, but I’m kinda lost with how to extract it from said page.
sure, I’ll give the next release a try. I’m honestly surprised PPCMC worked at all due to my iBook’s low specs.
I use Classilla on OS 9. It’s good, but some websites, such as this forum don’t display correctly.
This should be fixed in the newest 7.0.4 release let me know.

Mac OS 9 QuickTime 6 MPEG4 Part 2 transcoding is now available in PCMC 7.0.4. It is pretty slow since it targets 10.3.9 G3/G4/G5.
Soon I’m going to come out with a 10.4 G4/G5 optimized build that will be way faster for transcoding and other features in general.
Don't forget that 3gp can be made to play in OS9.
Transcoding obviously opens up lots of possibilities but I've steered away from that in the past because addressing low end systems in the first place means any transcoding is going to be laborious.

Downloading works now on my iBook G3. I tried both one of the regular downloading options (360p) and one of the QuickTime 6 options (240p). Unfortunately, even at 240p, videos play like a slide show. Oh well, it was fun to experiment.
That should work for even 360p. It’s just MPEG 4 Part 2 when you use the QuickTime 6 option.
Funnily enough I had 720p almost working in QuickTime 6 on Mac OS 9 but it was like 80% speed and then crashed. I wonder if it’s even possible, like what the performance of a dual cpu 2.0 ghz Power Mac G4 would do. I just have a 1.42ghz G4.

Sorry, I forgot to mention the video player I was using. I was using QuickTime 7.6.4.
I seriously recommend switching to MPlayer, it's roughly twice as efficient as QuickTime.
Seconded. @MacFoxG4 check out the success here that I enjoyed with media playback on my G3 thanks to the stellar handiwork of @Dronecatcher.

Transcoding obviously opens up lots of possibilities but I've steered away from that in the past because addressing low end systems in the first place means any transcoding is going to be laborious.

Can't believe I didn't try this sooner, but this brought Youtube to my 700mhz eMac and there's just something magical about seeing it stream. It's maxing out the cpu, the ui is grinding to a haul while playing, and I am currently trying it in Leopard because of reasons, but video steaming is stable and doesn't lose frames. It's excellent work, I think I'd ruled out the possibility far too soon.
You can even download the videos and play them back in OS 9 if you use the Download For QuickTime 6 option. Thanks for the feedback!
My streamer/downloader (linked earlier in thread) or better still SMTube will do the same with less CPU but more effort is required in the install. The problem on low end systems is QuickTime.
