From your own post where you write that online screen comparison isn’t useful.
I'm assuming you are misinterpreting my post as I literally didn't say that. I said it doesn't give the full picture. I personally would recommend anyone on the fence about which size to go for, try and get hands on with both. It's easy to go for the lure of the bigger screen but ultimately the 11" for me works better for an all round tablet. If your use case is predominately sitting at a desk then the larger would would likely pose less of an issue.

Okay I have to fess-up...All this talk about the 12.9 made me want to break it out again...it’s f’ing amazing. The keyboard feels great, and the screen is so big and beautiful. I’m sitting here now, in my underwear, watching a video on my phone suspended (by a stand) above the big iPad screen as I type this post on my iPad. It’s a glorious moment. Pure gadget-gasm. I might have to put the 11 away for a while. Bigger might indeed be better. Hail brethren.

Probably my misinterpretation, I’m sorry if it seems a rude reply from me! No intention of that!

Good approach, just buy every model and be done with it!

I have both (2018 11" and 2020 12.9") but still don't know which one I prefer. Kinda wish there was an in-between model, a 12" that could have the best of both worlds. Now that the new models might be coming out, I've been trying to figure out which one to get. I was going to replace one or both with 2021 11" and 12.9" models, but I'm not sure which way to go.

The 11" is light, portable, really easy to hold, and great for reading. But it doesn't display many websites in full width unless you hold it in landscape orientation, isn't great for side by side windows or productivity tasks in general.

The 12.9" feels big, immersive, has more screen real estate much better for any productivity tasks, especially if used on a desk. But it kinda needs to be used on a desk or stand of some sort, because it is unwieldly and hard to hold one-handed.

I think the weight difference between a sheet of A4 and an iPP may have a bearing. And, yes. I remember carrying large 3 ring notebooks and thick calculus & physics textbooks. Times have indeed changed.
Yep plus to be honest I rarely carried over A4 notebooks. At school I would have A5 because it is easier as I had to carry a lot. In university (in my country we go directly to university, not college) I would carry around a pile of A4 sheets, I would take notes during classes and then at home I would classify them in different folders for the different subjects. So basically whatever I was carrying in my back was lighter than the iPad Pro 12.9.

I have had a 2020 11” IPad Pro for over a year now. I will be giving this to my wife and getting the next 12.9 that comes out. The 11” works great, is portable easy to hold, etc. However, increasingly I am using it as a primary device and spending more time on it. Having the larger screen and more real estate would be great for my eyes and for mult-tasking. That is the thinking at least, really depends on how you will use it. Will find out here if/when they release the next one.

I am in the same boat. I find myself sitting at the kitchen table using it the majority of the time. I told my wife she is do for a upgrade ?. I plan on getting the next release 12.9

Funny I have been using the 11” for several months and pulled out my 12.9 and now I have sold the 11”. I just love the large screen great for browsing and watching Netflix etc.
I have a 12.9 iPP and an old Mini (gen 2) Like having the Mini for reading books and watching movies while doing cardio at the gym.

I had the 12.9”, thought it was too big so gave that to my partner and got the 11” love it, but am missing the 12.9” so thinking of selling my 11” and getting the new 12.9” once released... or maybe the current 12.9” at a discount.

I have gone back and forth like this too as far as which one would serve me best, but finally decided that the aspect ratio is just not ideal no matter which model you own. One of the ONLY complaints I ever had about using the 12.9" iPad Pro as a laptop is that it's almost square shaped when you're doing actual work. That's great for art because it's more like a big piece of paper. When running apps side by side, it's less than stellar compared to a MacBook.

I didn't realize how annoying it was until I switched back to Mac full time. It wouldn't keep me from owning an iPad Pro again in the future sometime, but there are some low-hanging fruit tweaks that they could make to improve the experience. I don't care what they do to the OS. I can be productive in just about any OS. But I'd love if they moved the front camera to the adjacent bezel from where it is now, and they really need to do something about that screen aspect ratio. This isn't 2010 anymore and if you want more people to take the iPad seriously for productivity, you need to make these quality-of-life changes.

PS: I do realize I've been on this thread and other ones saying everything opposite of what I just said above. I have been very wishy washy about the iPad ever since those M1 Macs came out.

Yeah the camera being in portrait is a HUUUUUUGE annoyance for me too... and as you say the aspect ratio isn’t great either.

I am deliberating switch from 11” to 12.9” or just go with the MacBook Air.... decisions ?

I find the 11 a LOT faster than the 12.9 and the 6 gigs of ram vs 4 in my 12.9 really helps with multiple apps , my 12.9 slows down when i'm swapping between apps and some apps actually become a bit unresponsive !!

Overall I think a 12 would be the perfect compromise
