Still happy with my decision (or, would that be indecision?) to go with the 12.9. I’ve been using it in a variety of situations, but have been doing a lot more couch work with the iPad as the US holiday is approaching (pretty lazy work week), and I have to say that I’m not finding the 12.9 to be too big or unwieldy away from my desk. In fact, and I think someone mentioned this here or on another thread, I find the larger footprint better and more stable on my lap than my old 9.7 Pro. In landscape orientation, there’s more material to rest on my lap, both with the folio (my preferred, in-house configuration) or with the Smart Keyboard folio and I don’t fear the iPad toppling off if I move around (that happened a few times with the 9.7).

I find it interesting that the pendulum has swung back and forth so many times! I was fully “Camp 11” at first, then on launch day, was full-on “Camp 12.9” and haven’t looked back.

OK, back to you’re regularly scheduled bent iPad Pro reading........

I think the lure of the 12.9 being brand new and the popular one is pulling people in more than their specific use case or the whole purpose of a tablet.

I totally agree. The 12.9” is perceived as more ground breaking and has generated more excitement, so that creates a pull for enthusiasts. In actual side by side use my opinion is that the ergonomics of the 11” are better for a handheld device. Many of the reviews say the 12.9” is better on a tabletop but to me the tablet shines best when it is hand held otherwise I’ll just buy an iMac.

For those of you deciding between two devices, I was pleased to find out that by initiating a return online I was able to extend the return on my 11 until December 3 1 anything after nov 14 has extended return to Jan. I have a perfect 11 in terms of pane uniformity and backlight bleed. I was super hesitant to return it yesterday in favor of the 12.9 and I think that gut feeling has me pushing back to the 11 group. I think the lure of the 12.9 being brand new and the popular one is pulling people in more than their specific use case or the whole purpose of a tablet.
I should force myself to make the decision, but instead, I took your pointer and initiated a return for a little more time.

Yes but the iPad Pro is faster than many iMacs?

Envy you guys to be able to make easy choices in deciding which one to keep. Can’t decide? Just buy 2 and keep one. Lol!

Only in the US. Enjoy.

Sure in specs and benchmarks but it does not currently run the typical Adobe programs or video programs that I use. Again, in many of the reviews the professional use that tends to be emphasized is writing, coding and publishing websites. One day the iPad might eclipse the mac but that days still a ways off.

Has the Netflix been updated for the 11" ? Does watching Movies in Netflix display very wide Black Bars on the top and bottom ?
[doublepost=1542718891][/doublepost]

Not sure if Netflix has been update for the 11", I just bought the iPad Pro. It does have some black bars on the top and bottom, but coming from an iPad Air 2, it's still a better media experience.

If nothing else the survey results here seem to indicate that Apple was wise to produce both sizes and not cripple either with differing technical specs.

Yes!!! People on both sides who are sure they made the right choice with many in the middle. :)

Netflix has definitely been updated for the 11". No black bars on the sides when in landscape mode, that is how you can tell.

11" for me. It's my secondary device and portability was my deciding factor.

I'm struggling with the 12.9 any time I'm not at my desk using it instead of a laptop. The bigger screen is nice for watching video if I can set it down on a surface, but its very unwieldy when using on my lap for consuming content - so without the keyboard attached, sitting on the sofa, bed etc. Its uncomfortably heavy in these scenarios compared to the old 9.7 and 10.5.

Its a conundrum as I can see the argument for having something like the 12.9 and a 9.7, but that's defeating the purpose of having a laptop replacement. Maybe the 11" is the perfect balance, I need to go and have a look at the Apple store I think.

I have struggled with this as well. Decided on the 11 as it’s so easy to use and does not have a split personality. It’s just an iPad nothing more...

I guess the biggest advantage with the 12.9” model is that you can get the Smart Folio Keyboard and use the iPad Pro like a MacBook. After all the iPad Pro is faster than many of the MacBooks out there.

Agree it all depends on the individual needs and preferences.

The iPad Pro 11” is surely lighter than 12.9” but when you add the smart folio Keyboard to the iPad Pro 11” the scenario changes slightly. The portability advantage is really not a big deal anymore.

If so why not get the 12.9” and expand the usage?

I had to reply as this is such BS @MCube74 .

I spent 8 hours yesterday developing on the 11" on the Smart Folio Keyboard. Used it like an 11" Macbook air (that was a real product apple produces for many years!). It's prefectly capable of being used like a Macbook.

So getting the 12.9" does not expand usage, that's utterly boloney. The 12.9" gives you more screen real estate but that's it. Yes it's a trade-off, but I firmly believe people who chose the 11" do so because they find the 12.9" too unwieldly / heavy.

Again, it's very subjective, but don't be saying the 12.9" is avantageous because of the keyboard folio because that's completely untrue. Many of us are using the 11" just like a macbook. I'm typing this right now on the keyboard folio in "laptop" mode on the 11" and it's fantastic.

Interesting perspective and I completely agree. When the 12.9" is on your desk, it's the best device to use. But it can get tiring to hold and lug around (again, this is very subjective and subject to individual preference).

If I was using the iPad at a desk 80% of the time I would have kept the 12.9". But I use the iPad without the keyboard just as much as I use it with the keyboard and for that reason, the 12.9" without the keyboard was tiring to hold after a while.

Think I decided. Had a co worker compare both. Had the 11 with keyboard folio and the 12.9 with regular folio. “The 12.9 is too big, if I’m going to carry something that big and heavy it might as well be a laptop” was thinking man the 12.9 is even heavier with the folio. It helps getting an outside opinion for something you’re working through internally.

And there you have it at least for me. Struggled with this for weeks. Until the 12.9 can do everything a laptop can, I’ll use the iPad for it’s intended use is and form factor align well too. Once it can truly replace a laptop I’ll get the bigger one

My lineup-

11 inch ipp
iPhone XS Max
MacBook Pro ( at some point)

I hope the people that settled for 12.9 don’t regret not having the portability later because of the allure of the all new device. I suspect either device will work fine though.

For me I think the ipp is still a way off from replacing a laptop so if I’m getting one soon don’t see a staple of the 12.9 ipp, 13 mbp and iPhone XS Max gelling well together

This thread is becoming ridiculously sad; people trying to defend their purchase decisions.
I understand the intent of this thread as it's always good to get different view points and use cases, but it really boils down to just that; use cases.

Not every one person will have the same needs. Some will be able to use an iPad as a main device, others as alternate/secondary; some will use it as a couch surfing devices, others as travel companions, etc.

Both sizes are fantastic devices and both have their own pro and cons.

Perhaps everyone left discussing these are those who are still trying to justify their purchase..

and those who find that their device is perfect have stopped replying.

seems that the latest posts have been on the 11" ..

Anyone who owns 13 Macbook Pro went with the 12.9 iPad?

I find they are very similar in size. It'll be one or the other while traveling and I'd likely have to take my Macbook Pro.

... started to doubt my decision.

Yes. I have a 13” MBP and am using a 12.9”.
I spent a lot of time with the 11” ultimately if I wanted to get any work done I couldn’t do it on the 11”.
The benefit of the larger size is the screen and for me the weight. It’s almost half the weight and a much thinner than my MBP.
I wish they made a 12” that would have been the perfect size. But I’m happy with my 12.9”

Is it really? the weight feels much closers to me with the smart folio.

I think it is good we have a thread started like this. So many people some do justify their purchase but so many others have shared their day to day experience of using the 11" and the 12.9" it has really helped to know different perspective on this.People who think this thread is stupid or sad, should not read this thread simple. But for other's it is a great enlightenment. Keep going Folks !!

I find it very interesting to read other people's though processes. I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought the 11 looked like a Tic Tac compared to the 12.9 in the Apple store.
