My first one had faulty buttons and was replaced by Apple ..

They said , once the iPad is serviced, it can’t be exchanged.

That sucks! Hard lesson to learn to do retail swap, even if outside of the return policy, and push for it... for this reason

The Apple staff helping me was very incompetent. I wanted a gift card for a case I returned so I can spend it right there. Without asking me, She pushed the button to refund it to the original payment. Then she told me there’s no way to go back to the previous screen.

I know it’s the same eventually. But I have to wait for the refund to show up in my account to make the next purchase.

I was very pissed by the experience. It ruined my night.

Asked politely to speak to the manager right then and there..they have the power to make things right.

Nana. Not getting what you wanted does not make them incompetent. Crying about it online isn’t doing you any favors.

This 12.9, with a case on, is heavy enough to no longer be (easily) portable or handheld for me. Maybe the 11 inch would’ve been the more convenient size but I plan to do art on this thing so I went for the larger one since the UI would take away some of that real estate. More space means more room to draw from the shoulder and less wrist strain.
I actually like the bare weight of the 12.9" though, it’s within reason for a sheet of metal and glass and if I were confident I’d definitely use it on the couch and such with the case off.

OK.. this shouldn't be tricky but it is! I am keeping my old 10.5 pro.. but I still can't decide on whether to pick up the 11 or 12.9... The 12.9's screen is amazing and I don't know, from the little bit of time I have played around with it, I think I could handle the extra weight. But then the 11 is SO compact and portable. But, I think since I am going to hold onto the 10.5, it might make more sense to grab the 12.9... heck, I think that model would just "feel" newer.... thoughts? Why is this so hard this time around lol

How/where do you plan to use each ipad?

Am inclined to go with the larger one, but am wondering whether the aspect ratio of the 11-inch would scale better if connected to an external USB-C 4K monitor like the 21-inch LG UltraFine? (I’m aware that connecting any iPad to an external monitor has its limitations, but I have some uses.)

Definitely 12.9 if you are keeping 10.5. I am keeping old 12.9 and picked up 11 to replace my Air 2.

my use with my mini is 99% at home in bed/couch, so I am somewhat tempted just to try the 12.9

Well, it will be mainly be a bed/couch iPad. I do travel for work so I always take that with me along with the Smart Keyboard case.

For those who have the 12.9, what's your experience like with it while in bed... or on the couch, without the smart keyboard?

just imagine if there was a way to boot into macos on the 12.9 when you needed it for heavy work vs ios for when you're netflixing/youtubing

also since you're keeping the 10.5 i'd try the 12.9 just to have a different device. That's been sort of my justification since the 11 in some ways is like the iphone5 when the form factor changed and became taller just like the 11 is.

The only reason I could see going with the 11” in ADDITION to your 10.5” is if you like the approximate 10.5” size for all your uses but want to keep two different iPads in two different locations. Otherwise, they’re too redundant. If you’re really intent on getting another iPad (pro), it only makes sense to get one that is different from your 10.5, and more importantly, better at different things. A lot of our devices are somewhat redundant, but less redundancy the better, right?

I have a 12.9 but I use it primarily for productivity, and for consumption only if it’s the only device around. Some people get the 12.9 primarily for consumption because they enjoy the immersion of the bigger screen, and the trade off of handling the bigger size does not bother them. I feel the 12.9 is overkill when I’m on the couch or in bed wanting to relax and do some reading. I feel the 9.7/10.5/11” are overkill too for that matter. I much prefer my iPad mini. When I want an immersive consumption experience for things like video, I prefer my Apple TV/big screen rather than holding a device.

So I’d say use the 10.5” casually and for travel (assuming you want to pack lighter). And if you’re going to get either the 11” or 12.9”, get the 12.9 and use it for productivity (with the Smart Keyboard), and/or for more immersive consumption if you don’t have an Apple TV/big screen.

Yes I’m using my 12.9” for consumption, but bought it for rare times needed for work.. it’s a little big but I love it. On my couch right now with it. LOL.

I bought the 12.9 and Otterbox case. Used it a few days and returned it. Too big on lap. Continued using my 10.5 a few days and went back and got the 11 in LTE. I regretted not getting LTE on the 10.5 and consequently didn't take it traveling since I have a MacBook air 11" and a 2017 IPP 13".

Got LTE and service on the 11 and am loving it. LTE is great for those breakfasts out with the wifey in various diners and for her to use going down the interstate on our fairly frequent road trips..... Not sure if I'll sell the 10.5 since it's less than a year old with keyboard cover, smart cover, various back cases off Amazon, pencil, etc.

I’m using mine in bed right now without any case and it’s like reading a hard magazine I’m too afraid to squash, haha. If I'm on my side, I’ll lean it on a leg. I’ve had it for a week and I find myself preferring to use it horizontally with both hands than trying to use it one handed at all. 12.9 is bordering on unwieldy for my extra small hands; a lot of space feels ‘wasted’ if I’m just scrolling through text too (wondered why novels are never printed in A4?) but for watching videos and typing two-handed, it feels really good.
Supposedly the 12.9 sounds different since it has bigger chambers for the speakers but it probably doesn’t matter unless you’re an audiophile.

I have a layman’s technical question: since an 11” and a 12.9” have the same 4GB of RAM, all else being equal would the 11” be a tad faster?

In theory probably a hair faster

In practice probably negligible since iOS 12 doesnt make A12x even break a sweat
