Gotcha. I guess I can do that with my 12.9 if I balance it on my knee and use the mini On-screen keyboard. For reading like that I admit is is cumbersome. I’d like a regular iPad for that, but I do like my Kindle.

I read with my 12.9 Pro every night. I lay with a regular pillow on a wedge and have the iPad on my chest. Haven't used my Paperwhite since getting my first iPad, the Air 2.

Do you think it’s a good idea buying an iPad Pro now? I’m more up to the 12’9 but not sure as rumors say the new one could be launched in March.

Gosh, I had the pro 12’9 in the cart several times, but not sure if I should buy it now.

Right now an update is just rumors but if you can wait out the month, it may be worth it.

I do the same with my 11 inch. One of the reasons I went for the 11 as opposed to the 12.9 is for this specific purpose. I tried the 12.9, which wouldn't work for my pillow. Which pillow wedge do you use? I couldn't find one that was big enough.

I actually use one that is not high at all - 10" or so - with my normal sleep pillow on top. So I'm probably in a position that most people wouldn't like. That's why there's a lot of "I like", "I prefer", etc. in this thread - we're talking personal preferences that vary among us.

I bought a Flippy. It was big enough for the 12.9.

This Thread will never die.

So now with the new iPad Pros - along with new Magic keyboards,

Will this swing toward the 12.9" more ? or will the 11" be the preferred size ?

i have the 2018 12.9 " . i have been toying with the idea to get the 11" due to weight/size of the 12.9"

but now with this beautiful, backlit, awesome looking Magic keyboard, i'm quite torn - i'm thinking the keyboard makes more sense typing on a 12.9" screen instead of the 11" .

Thoughts ?

im keeping my 2018, will just upgrade to new keyboard, the differences in 2018 and 2020 is not so grand for me to edge out even more money. Also what a joke of paying more for extra cameras on a ipad. I have never used my ipad‘s camera. Other than that if you do upgrade I do think going 11 is a good idea, I went from 12.9 2018 tto 11 because the size of 12.9 got annoying for a tablet

It seems like the upgraded keyboard will suit the 12.9 size better, but at the same time the docking system is now easier than ever to detach your iPad from the keyboard. So when using the iPad in handheld mode the 11’’ wins every time for me. The 12.9 is just too unwieldy in portrait mode, and most apps looks silly blown up that large in full screen. The current keyboard attachment subconsciously keeps you tied to the keyboard more often than not.

As a current owner of the 11’’ iPad Pro, I’m going to wait for more in-depth reviews and testing, and new iPadOS features revealed in WWDC to make my decision.

I was the same. I have the 12.9 3rd gen and thought about picking up the 11” for even better portability. But now I’m working from home anyway. So my 12.9 has been great at home. I also like the new keyboard and I was waiting to see what came out as I regretted not buying the folio keyboard. So my plan is to now get the keyboard this time and wait for the 5th gen for an iPad upgrade.

I have the 2018 IPP 11, and I went with the 2020 12.9. I like the 11 dont get me wrong but I want to go back to big one again.

Bet you can’t use a 12” in one hand and scroll and swipe with your thumb like I can do on the 11”.

The loss in portability was obvious to me and I bet most owners of 12.9” iPads have one-handed use relatively low on their priority list.

I don’t expect the new versions will shift buyers to one side or the other more. No impact in the real world is my prediction.

The 12.9" with the Smart Keyboard folio is already pretty heavy.

The other thing to consider is that the Magic Keyboard will add even more weight .

the reports have shown that the new 2020 ipads are around 10 grams heavier

probably due to the camera internals.

I would love to grab a 12.9”, I have the 11” but would love the 12.9”.

I went from the 10.5 to the 12.9 and was really happy with the increase in screen real estate. Though I also kept the 10.5, it sees very little use as I use the 12.9 everywhere, including reading in bed.
