I THINK Xcode means that they are bringing MacBook Pro apps over like Final Cut Pro and logic. I THINK.

Xcode and the Pro Apps FCP and Logic are not related at all and very different in their target audiences. One coming doesn’t mean the others are as well.

The future of the Pro apps cannot be guaranteed by anyone either, as the example of Aperture has sadly demonstrated. Once Apple loses interest in the topic and falls behind, that might be it for the product.

Display specs for the 11" vs 12.9" are identical except for size & resolution. The PPI is identical, so you're getting a little more screen real estate because of the added size. "Sharpness" should be identical. But perhaps, as someone stated, some sloppy developers are only coding for the standard iPad's (10.2") 2160x1620 resolution for non-12.9" models, resulting in it scaling up to the 11" 2388x1668 resolution?

Interesting observation from comparing the resolution and PPI for all "current" models sold on Apple.com: All except the Mini have a PPI of 264. The Mini has the highest/sharpest PPI of 326.
Ok, now i know the "problem" with a 12,9"-iPP ;)
The panel is 264ppi sharp, but the (old) UI is upscaled to a sloppy, blurred view - right?
Will it always stay that way? (10,2"-UI upscaled to 12,9")

But photos or video with 4K-resolution are really sharp :)

If there's any upscaling being done, it's likely from 9.7" 2048x1536 (so ~1.33x scaling).

Apps that natively support 10.2" 2160x1620 resolution likely already supported 12.9" 2732x2048 resolution first. 12.9" 2732x2048 was first introduced in 2015. Meanwhile, the first (and currently only) device with 10.2" 2160x1620 is the iPad 7th gen which was only introduced last year.

So true, plus there is always trade offs. In some environments I really liked the 12.9 over the 11 at other times I liked the 11 over the 12.9. In the end I decided the scale tipped towards the 11. That’s a personal choice and the best way to make that is to experience it. Felt experiences over intellectual experiences.
I feel the 12.9 alone is great but when you add the new MK its quiet heavy, not so large... conversly, with the 11” and MK thats a good compromise where you can bring it everywhere ... the Mk is amazing In my opinion!

I think it depends on what your needs (wants) are, but I went with the 12.9". I mainly use it for photo & video editing via Lightroom, Photoshop & Lumafusion. I think the 11" would have been fine as well, but I think the extra screen space is worth it for me.

I got the new Smart Keyboard today. I like that it’s black like the new folio cases. Goes better with the space gray. 21BF4835-C5CC-4407-8DE8-03F07C6570B6.jpeg 41DAA1DF-5D06-45A7-B3B6-0D646F16BC40.jpeg

I saw the reviews for this. Is it blacker than the previous one? What made you get this over the Magic Keyboard? Apart from the cost of course.
The new one is definitely black or close to black. The old one was more of a gray. 2 reasons I haven’t ordered the magic keyboard. $350 is really steep for an accessory. And I’ve seen too many photos on here of keyboards arriving with cosmetic damage. If I buy one, I’ll wait until I can purchase in store.

Is that the 12.9?

Makes the 12.9” look very tempting. Just think it still looks slightly too big for all the traditional iPad tasks I want to do like reading books and surfing the web on the sofa.
Yes I have the 12.9 right now with the new magic keyboard, it is big and heavy.. beautiful yes... for bed, reading .... no

I think I’ll order the Smart Cover and see how I go. love the look and idea of the Magic Keyboard but I have the 16" MacBook Pro. I use that for most of my typing.

I've just bought the 12.9 iPad Pro and so far am using without a case. I am torn between getting either the Smart Cover, the Smart Keyboard or the Magic Keyboard. I have to admit the the weight of the MKB concerns me a little. I don't travel too much so am thinking that the Smart Keyboard would be best but then again don't want to get that and then wish I'd gotten the MKB.

For everyday use I use the iPad case less and do find the smart cover adequate enough. As I write this I am "talking" myself into getting this and just using my MBP for any typing I need to do....

Any thoughts most welcome!

HI there, I have both the SK and the SC, HUGE difference.. the SK is heavy! But works soooo well....I think its good to have both... SK makes it so large I was even thinking of going to an 11" but then not sure if I can do that given how beautiful the screen is on the 12.9!!!!!!!!!!!!

Coming from the iPad 6th generation from 2018 with a 9.7 inch display, the 11” is already a significant upgrade in screen size while being just as portable, so that’s the one for me. I intend to use the iPad as a tablet instead of a laptop replacement so the 12.9” doesn’t quite fit the bill.

That may just be a phase of getting used to the extra weight. The 12.9 with MK is essentially in 13”laptop territory - that’s still very manageable in my opinion. I’ve dragged a 13”MBP to lots of countries too. But of course the 11”is less. :)

I don’t think any of the two is especially nice for reading in bed. Have you tried a Kindle or similar e-reader of the bookstore of your choice? So nice sometimes to have a dedicated single purpose device.

they’re both totally comfortable for the casual reader. I prop them up on my legs to read. And my books come from Apple Books. To each their own!

Well, of course the Magic Keyboard is very heavy and for desk use. For books reading in the bed I use the 12.9" naked and it is quite good (though the 11" is better for that specific use). Newspapers reading even in the bed is a different story since I do prefer the 12.9.

For me i can put it on the bed no issues and watch YouTube. Just put it on side of the bed and browse if needed with apple pencil or finger.

I just went through this whole thing myself in ordering my iPad Pro. In the end what made the decision for me is determining how I was going to use it most. I mostly will be using it as a tablet so the 11 inch was good for me. The 12.9 is nice but not $200 more nice.

They are workable and I read lots on the iPads too but they don’t compare to an e-reader to me. Weight is a different ballpark entirely and there’s no eye strain whatsoever.

totally agree; kindles are limited to book reading for the most part, while I read a ton of long form essay. I’m also not one to sit for more than an hour straight and read a book; eye fatigue isn’t something I feel compare to a 3 hour reader.
