just wanted to tack on that for reading non standard books like medical textbooks and magazine articles in News+, the ipad offers more versatility in that regard.

That makes total sense - comics/cartoons the same, as well as magazines and the like. Nothing beats a good tablet in these fields.

I agree. For medical textbooks and scientific paper, IPP with pencil is the best.

Yes, medical papers too! I get my specialty‘s monthly journal edelivered and I pick the articles most relevant to my practice and work my way through them and create little blurbs in Apple notes of whatever i highlight with my pencil. The 12.9 is especially great for PDF based journal articles, though I did it nicely on my 11” last year

I have the 11” and ordered a 12.9” and came in the mail today,, It was way to huge for me, i felt ridiculous holding it and then i thought;
I have a Mac Mini with a 4k display, an Macbook Pro 13”, why should i work with the 12.9” one,, the 11” fits in my handbag.

returned it immediately after using it for 10-15. Now it is gone i feel empty, and the 11” feels small but i guess it is the way to go for my lifestyle.

Edit: ordered the Magic Keyboard, will arrive this week(hopefully tomorrow!)

For me i can put it on the bed no issues and watch YouTube. Just put it on side of the bed and browse if needed with apple pencil or finger.
Youtube-App or Youtube in Safari?
The App is the best for iPP alone, but with the MK is very crappy
iPP+MK only Youtube with Safari ;)

@ all

Im looking for a good bag (for iPP+MK)

Check out WaterField! Their quality is truly top notch. I just pre-ordered the AirCaddy in brown. https://www.sfbags.com/collections/...ad-pro-with-magic-keyboard/products/air-caddy
Too bad (shipping + taxes)... :(

Subtotal $79.00
Shipping $15.00
Duties and Taxes$19.00
Total USD $113.00

Why is it crappy? Always use the app. Never use safari
For the iPP alone - Youtube-App ist the best
(App is specfied for Tablets - not for "PCs", like iPP+MK ;) )

But iPP with MK ist terrible, because you can control the app only with the "Dot" (mouse pointer)
But if you use Safari for Youtube, you can control youtube with the keyboard and trackpad
("pause" with Space or tap on Trackpad, "back and forward" with the arrow-keys, "mute" with key "m"

Personally I don’t see the issue with just touching the screen or using trackpad to click pause..hardly a big issue

I had a 12.9” and I now have the 11”. The 11” sometimes feels too small, yet the 12.9” felt too big

Haven’t used the trackpad in the app, but reaching over the keyboard to the screen, long pressing the screen, or touching the video to show the controls then pressing the little play pause button -vs- one tap on a big physical button that’s always there close to you that you don’t even have to look at. It’s undeniable that one is clearly more convenient than the other.

Is your opinion...
I bought the MK to avoid having to use the screen ;)

I was watching YouTube just recently and pausing the video using trackpad takes like half a sec more than it would have a function key there...so for me not an issue.

This is the beauty of having an iPad with a keyboard like this so you can at any point use it like a laptop or a tablet.

That's your opinion, but not mine (and certainly not from many others) ;)

I have the 12.9 pro and have been put off getting the magic keyboard as I have a MacBook Pro. I figure I can do any major typing on that. I am, however wondering if I should get the MKB. Just wondering how, with what you have, it fits in with your set up?

That’s ironic, most iPad owners get it to be able to actually touch the screen. ;)

Joking aside, Google has some issues with support for the keyboard. I believe Daring Fireball has a few examples.

I generally only use YouTube with Safari on my iPad - somehow almost no ads.

It is absolutely ironic but I’m actually in that boat too. I like the option to touch the screen, but I appreciate not having to as much by using the MK trackpad and keyboard shortcuts. Keeps my screen nice and pretty

I think many people like the flexibility of just being able to detach the iPad and use it without anything attached. And then take the Magic Keyboard when it’s needed for longer typing / work sessions.
I can’t decide for myself either - half the time I still have my Create keyboard attached to my iPad, the rest of the time I use it without accessory. :)

The screen catches prints every time I touch it, so I definitely appreciate spacebar to pause also, and prefer using the pencil for screen touches.

I think I’ll order the Smart Cover and see how I go. love the look and idea of the Magic Keyboard but I have the 16" MacBook Pro. I use that for most of my typing.

I've just bought the 12.9 iPad Pro and so far am using without a case. I am torn between getting either the Smart Cover, the Smart Keyboard or the Magic Keyboard. I have to admit the the weight of the MKB concerns me a little. I don't travel too much so am thinking that the Smart Keyboard would be best but then again don't want to get that and then wish I'd gotten the MKB.

For everyday use I use the iPad case less and do find the smart cover adequate enough. As I write this I am "talking" myself into getting this and just using my MBP for any typing I need to do....

Any thoughts most welcome!

Maybe go ahead and order the Magic and if you don’t like it return it? I think I read somewhere in the forum that Apple is extending the return policy, so instead of the normal XX days, it’s XX days *after* the Apple stores re-open. So you could get weeks of use before needing to decide.

I don’t think any of the two is especially nice for reading in bed. Have you tried a Kindle or similar e-reader of the bookstore of your choice? So nice sometimes to have a dedicated single purpose device.

I recommend the Kobo series of ereaders. They have backlights and can load all book formats, including EPUBs.

I still struggle with this, deciding between the pro sizes.

I’ve had the 12.9” gen 1, 2 and 3. I’ve also had either the iPP 9.7” or 10.5” at the same time.
So my current Pros are the 10.5” and 12.9” 2018.

Initially, I thought that I’d keep the big iPad at home and take the smaller one everywhere with me. But I eventually got a bigger handbag and the bigger one goes to work with me, although I am presently working from home.
So, for a long time, I considered the 10.5” to be my favourite iPad ever. But the 12.9 creeped up and I use it the majority of the time now. I kind of have a wish that I had the 11” only and that I was happy with the one size for portability and use, out and about and at home. Only, I wonder if I could revert back to the smaller size now that I use the big one mostly. It’s just that I find the 12.9 awkward in a few situations, like going to the doctors, and just a bit heavy to take in my handbag.

I have ordered the US Magic Keyboard for the 12.9 and my delivery window is 5th May - 13th May. It’s still in processing. Anyway, I didn’t sleep well last night as my brain was overactive, wondering if I should cancel the MK and wait until the next iPad Pro release when I may decide to stick with the 12.9 size or switch to the 11” size.
This morning, I picked up the 10.5 as it’s close enough to the 11” that it should help me decide if I’d be able to use the 11” as my one and only iPad. I now wonder if I’d find it too small to use as my only iPad and if I’d miss the bigger one, at the same time, I’d love the portability.

Has anyone reverted to the smaller size after using the bigger one for 12+ months and found that they adjust again?
If I knew that would work for me, then I would cancel my MK order before it ships and I’m running out of time to decide as it could ship any moment now. Then I would just hold out until the next iPad release and buy both together then. I’m undecided.

Hehe... ?
iPP+MK is no MBA or MBP, but like a MBA or MBP
Does MBA/MBP-Users touch the screen? Now, im „Like-a-MBA/MBP-User“:p

If i use th iPP+MK most times (99%?) i don’t touch the screen (ok, if any thing is buggy iOS, Apps, iPP or the MK)

If i use only the iPP, i have no choice ;)
