my god. so after tons of research.

im getting incredible battery with my non apple id signed in pro max. I FaceTimed for an hour and a half, been surfing the web, texting, etc started at 97% im at 79% now.

I just chatted with apple support for well over an hour about my issue.

last support chat I had, the guy ran a test on my battery to examine if there was a hardware issue. there wasn't. my battery and phone are fine.

I tried to tell this senior advisor that the issue is whenever I log into iCloud, my battery goes to **** (4 or 5 hours SOT on one charge). I then told him about my one whole day without it, he wasn't able to read the tests from my prior battery usage test and wants me to log back in to collect a weeks worth of data and see for himself before going any further.

I told him I wasn't doing that. I figure it'll be easier to figure out a way to get what I need on my new speedy max, without carrying my old **** over.

but, how do I do that? I have no contacts, music, apps, notes, anything synced up. my Mac is running my apple id and iCloud obviously..

I don't think I have a choice but to re log in to my iCloud account and suck it up. im getting escalated to engineering and they're going to look further into it, but I doubt anything will come out of it.

I know this is an issue, due to reading this thread:
pretty sure something along these lines is happening to me.

not sure where to turn from here. im loving this awesome battery, but I need my things!

definitely not the phone to blame, my 8 plus and my MacBook pro all logged in get **** battery too.

keep your fingers crossed macrumors!

@Tsepz you must have a fairly new apple id? how many iPhones have you had, and how new / how loaded up is your iCloud?

I would:

* Log into your old iCloud account, but do not restore any data from it. See if you’ve still got the battery drain issue. If not, start downloading your apps one at a time (Don’t restore data from your backup to the app) and see if one app gives you battery drain. Hopefully by setting up the phone as new, and redoneloading your apps that will have cleared whatever setting/issue that was giving you poor battery life.

* If you’ve still got the same battery drain issue, create a second iCloud account and see if you get the same problems?

Yep, me too for location settings. I thought putting it on wifi is supposed to extend the battery over lte? either way, I have strong signals for both.
is your apple id fairly new or have you been using apple products for years?

yes I’ve had my Apple ID since the iPhone 5 came out. Granted I set this device as new logged into my AppleID and manually downloaded my apps and music

do I restore apps / documents and data when logging back in?
so just log into iCloud, don't restore anything, sync my photos calendar all that have it transfer over my contacts etc and observe?

if I do end up having to create a second account, how would I go about moving all my things over to the new one?

how the hell people are getting screen on times of 10, 12, 13 hours?? Mine barely made it past the day. charge once for sure. 4 hours of screen on time and it hits 20%. My iPhone 8 plus had 2 hours more screen on time than my brand new 11 pro max. I tried signing in out of iCloud, clearing the keychain database, disabling iCloud photo library, setting up as new phone, restoring. its not even a week old. wtf! how the hell do I get my moneys worth?? I ended up from 100 - 20 % with 4 hours of screen on time. what the actual ****

I need this 12 hour screen on time thing

One item, each time I reset my Pro Max, the battery life would drop for a few days then slowly start to improve.
There are days when I get crap life but for most days I am in the 10 hour or more life.
Apps heavy in video drop that time by a lot for me.

do I restore apps / documents and data when logging back in?

Not initially. Download 1 app at a time, use and observe. If you don’t have any issues, download backup data and observe. Keep going until you notice an issue or you’ve downloaded all of your existing data from your backup.

how would I go about moving all my things over to the new one?

Depends on the app. If the data is backed up to your iCloud account, I don’t think you can transfer the data across (happy to stand corrected). If not, you should be able to redownload it from the server/place it’s stored on.

didn't even download an app. the moment I signed in my battery drained 10% in maybe 18 mins.
problem is being looked into by engineering, the technician shared my screen and saw the drain instantly when I logged in. hmmm, corrupt iCloud data? excessive pings?

This is interesting and I'm going to follow this. Hope you get it figured out OP. My battery life isn't the greatest on my 11 Pro Max, but I am jailbroken and have had my iCloud account since the 5 also.

What about the upcoming IOS.13.4.2.whatever - upgrade? I lost my 11 pro max battery life about 3 weeks ago. I think those upgrades are to blame.

Nah. Just Bc when I signed out of iCloud my battery life was amazing. Same software
I’ve tried resetting my password, only thing left to do is
1) make a new Apple ID and see what happens
2) sign out of iCloud on my Mac and see if that’s draining it

engineering should be getting back to me soon so keep your fingers crossed!

Can you post a picture of your battery usage by app? I just checked my phone and Yahoo notifications was taking 26% of my battery. Turned it off.

Yep

My 11 pro is garbage battery since the last update, drains 20/25% overnight and I only use the basics with no youtube, gaming etc.

New update due next week apparently so i'm hopeful.

Any news?
Thanks for following.

So I couldn't use my brand new phone without my things anymore, I've been working closely with Apple support and basically what I've done is this:

I signed out of iCloud on my mac and old iPhone 8, signed in with my pro max and the battery life isn't as awful but still not the greatest. Maybe 7-8 hours of SOT
I've sort of just moved on from fussing about the battery, but after signing in on iCloud with just my new phone ive sent screenshots and reports to apple engineers and they are still working on the issue to see what is wrong with my iCloud.

I'm waiting to hear back. my phone is manageable now, the fast charging is a god send, but I know the iCloud drains it faster somehow because as soon as I signed in it was worse.

I'm waiting to hear back with what they find, they have my battery stats, and in the next few days I'm going to sign back in with my mac then my iphone 8 and compare. unfortunately ive given up on the whole 12 hours SOT time, 2 days without charge thing. i did it without iCloud, but no apps or anything sucked.

Another thing I have to try is trying a restore then new apple ID. that is pending after i hear back from apple.

Hopefully they will see the issue and let me know what I have to do. but, since then, living it up!

I have no idea, one thing I do on all iOS devices though is turn off Background App Refresh as in have found it absolutely useless, I see no real difference between when it’s on or Off, so I see no point in having it on.

Maybe try that?

So true. Turning off background refresh on apps that I thought needed it like Telegram or WhatsApp made no difference. Meaning I still receive notifications.

Same problem with my ip 11 pro max.. That's unbelievable when I see your 10-12hrs battery stats.

I honestly do not know what is going on with your phones, could it be usage differences?

I simply cannot kill my 11 Pro Max in a day with my usage , and I am quite heavy on Web Browsing, Social Media, Music Streaming throughout the day, some video (YouTube), multiple email accounts, Outlook for work and calendar and a whole lot of WhatsApp.

I am in bed now, it is 23:31 and I am at 43%.

Even on a Saturday in lockdown, I simply cannot kill this phone.

Are you all using Auto Brightness with True Tone? That’s how my screen is set.

I have question. With Safari 20% brightness and active Safari use, how much battery does 60 minutes consume? How much battery did your Pro max consume every 60 minutes? Do you have all push notification enable?

Not discrediting your post about screen on time or such but measuring the true screen on time would require adding the activity bars after the phone was removed from the charger.

I’ll need to keep an eye on that, I generally don’t, I check my battery level maybe 3-4 times a day, this phone has really had me relaxed.

The 24hour screenshot is useless as it includes times where the phone screen was on during charging and combines all the data in the last 24hours there for blowing it all up.

The reason I show the 10 Day screenshot is because I can actually show you:
1. One day of usage of hence you can also see my “Last Charge time
2. I can show you how the Day to day compares (look at the bars)

For example here I had selected Tuesday (yesterday) and it shows from when I last charged (8:20am)

But I can do the 24hour one when I go to bed tonight if you want, usually the Screen On Time on that one is inflated by a few hours.

Anyway I’ll just do another round of screenshots tonight before I go to bed, today may even be longer as I have had to get up earlier than usual to drop off my car for its annual service, so battery usage should be interesting.

I don’t think the 24hr measurement is useless in respect to more accurate actual screen on time measurements. If you click and add each blue bar in the chart in between charge cycles, this gives you the screen on time of the device when not connected to charger.
Looking at the daily screen on times doesn’t put into the equation if the phone was topped off multiple times during a day. It leads to misleading screen on times.
