I am debating on upgrading my iPad Pro 10.5. At the moment, I have the LTE version. I may just get the wifi version as I have rarely used LTE on my present one.

I am a Elite Plus member at Best Buy, so I have a 45 day return window. This way I can get the newest or a price match if a new one is released.

What is the one you have now lacking that you can't wait?

precisely, so unless the one you have now is getting slow (my Air 2 is slow these days) then there is no reason to upgrade. If someone says otherwise then he/she is a fool ;-)
You don't want to upgrade to Lamborghini for your daily commute when speed limit is 30 mph and you spend most of that in traffic anyway.

newness lol. All iPads are basically the same in the last 5 years other than shape and sizes.

I just got my iPad pro 11 64G for a 670$ at Walmart. I decided not to wait since new iPads certainly won't get steep discounts on release.
I like it so far, but coming from a Tab S6, the gestures drive me nuts

I’m not sure if OP is reading us at this point, but he said he has an Air 3, so he can wait and use such awesome machine until the iPad Pro with mini LED is released at the end of 2020. And that’s my advice at this point for anyone else with a fast iPad, even if it’s a 2018 iPad, just wait if you want an iPad Pro because the next one is gonna be better, will have more RAM, and just for that it is worth the wait. Also, there are rumors about a back-light Keyboard, even some bizarre rumors about a keyboard with a trackpad. Who knows, but after year and a half with the same iPad Pro, I’d wait.

I decided to purchase this 11” iPad Pro in October, First, because I wanted to take advantage of the Back To School promo, and the returning period allowed me to return it if there was an October event. There wasn’t October event, so I kept the iPad Pro and the Beats Solo 3. Secondly, I couldn’t wait more because my 2010 MacBook Pro was old and the battery didn’t hold all day.

If it was now, I’d probably wait. However the 2018 is still an awesome machine, super fast and super light (and super gorgeous).

I bought my iPad Pro 11" at the beginning of the month even knowing that new ones are going to be released. This is new to me, so it doesnt really matter to me what the 2020 Pros will offer. This one does everything I need it to and more. I'm glad I upgraded when I did. At the end of the day it's up to you and what fits your needs and your wallet. I couldn't wait for the new ones to come out to upgrade. I'm already making myself wait for when the new iphones are released in the Fall before grabbing one lol

I‘m definitely still reading, and I really appreciate all the opinions. And yes the original question was between the 11” Pro or the new Pro’s that are scheduled to come out. But a lot has changed since then, my fiancé loved the Air 3, so that’s gone from my life.....lol! I have my Mini 5, and that was supposed to hold me over until the new iPad’s, but I came across an amazing deal that i couldn’t pass up, I found someone selling a 10.5 Pro 512GB WiFi and Cellular, and I jumped on that deal.
So now I’m no longer “looking” for a new iPad, but I am very interested to see how the new Pro’s turn out. Who knows, my fiancé is really digging the my Rose Gold Pro, so I might need to get another iPad down the road. LOL!!

The only reason I've been hesistant is the new smart keyboard, is it going to be compatible?
I don’t think the current Smart Keyboard will be compatible with next iPad Pro. However, the current iPad Pro might be compatible with the next Smart Keyboard... I never thought about it, but you could definitely be right. It’s an interesting possibility.

I am curious about that as well, I could definitely benefit from a trackpad, all these years of people saying “if only the iPad had a mouse”, this could be huge.

I’m my 12 to the wife. I’m going wait until the ending the month. Other way i can get a better deal with the 11 2018 or 2020 with better specs. I’m likely staying 2018 though. It’s pretty future proof.

im certainly sold if the next iPad has trackpad...will sell my MacBook Air for the 12.9 2020 iPad Pro.

I have had mine for a year now, see signature, and I don't plan on upgrading. The trackpad is definitely something I want and I know I won't have to get the newest hardware to get it.

This iPad does everything I need it to do, and unless there is some new ground breaking feature of the newer model, the rumors I have heard thus far don't warrant an upgrade in my mind. All the features I have heard of so far are things my phone can already do (and I don't use them).

Is $674 a good deal for a new one?

I feel like the trackpad isn’t going to offer anything new that the third parties don’t already offer. It’ll most likely be more “touch assist.”

Isn’t it the opposite? Official trackpad support would have Apple actually implement proper mouse/trackpad features. Gestures, scrolling, contextual menus, command shortcuts.

Touch assist is a hidden feature so it wouldn’t make sense to add it into a $200 first party accessory and then keep it as some poorly implemented featureless circle cursor.

I doubt it.
Why would they risk cannibalizing MacBook Pro sales?
There also would have been something in the ipados.

That’s the Walmart deal for the 64G right? I went for it. Monitored pricing for a while and that was definitely the lowest this year from a brick and mortar retailer.
BTW the iPad is awesome!

I agree. Whoever thinks a iPad can replace a MBP, doesn’t need a MBP.

I agree, however I can make the case for that kind of support. My Galaxy S10e allows me to use Dex mode so I can use my phone on a monitor with a mouse and keyboard. Allows me to do something in a browser, work in excel, or watch YouTube without having to use Hotspot data for my MBP.

Having this option with my iPad Pro would make it more useful in some circumstances, I do, however, use my MBP when I need it.

Besides a few games, I only really use my computers for better web browsing with numerous tabs and data management. I use the cloud, however I still have that same mindset that I want My data local.

I bought the one from Walmart but then canceled it. Good deal, but I might as well wait it out a bit and get the newest one to “future proof” it.

I’m not sure how much Apple cares about MacBook cannibalization when a iPad Pro setups cost the same or more than an equivalent Maxbook.

$1000 iPad Pro 12.9 (2018) 64GB
$200 Smart Keyboard (2018)
$150 Pencil 2
$1350 Total

And that’s the base model. Throw in storage upgrades or LTE and you can easily hit $2000. Plus, iOS users tend to spend more on apps and services. So I wouldn’t worry about Apple not knowing how to profit off of the student/hobbyist/low-end Pro market.
