I wasn't planning to but Verizon's promos got me. I have a 12 Pro Max and am going to 14 Pro. I don't like the size and weight of the Max, but for the 12 I had to get that to get the better camera. Looking forward to the pro motion display, even better camera, dynamic island, always on display, and comparable battery life in a smaller package.

its funny we all want to change sizes as part of the 'upgrade' experience. Cant fault anyone

12 Pro-> 14 PM attempt

I was set on upgrading this morning but I changed my mind last minute going to stick it out for another year. Will get the battery replaced next month to see me through.

not upgrading until I figured how I can use my phone via prepaid or how can I have a reliable and cheap service while traveling to asia 2-3 times a year without the convenience of sim card.
Are you using T mobile ?

I use T Mobile for all my travels without having to change SIM cards.

All of Europe, South America, Mexico, Canada, and most of Asia worked well.

The only country that my T Mobile did not work was China and North Korea.

The 12 series got hit real bad on battery life because of those first generation 5G modems. Even with 5G set to auto they drain like crazy.

Briefly considered it, but:

The promise of the 10X tele lens next year tells me I should wait. (My ”real” camera doesn’t have that zoom range, which means I’d be adding some useful functionality to my photo/video arsenal.)

And I know I’m a party-pooper but that Dynamic Island just feels like a clever cop-out to me. “Well, turns out we still need an obtrusive cutout in there, so… how about we make it an adorable black Barbapapa instead of a pointless ugly trapezoid?” Ultimately the black pill shaped hole still looks dumb and intrusive when viewing a full-screen image (IMO), though I commend Apple for trying to make the best of a bad thing.

If I’m being honest with myself, my 12 Pro battery still lasts all day and the 14P doesn’t add any functionality that would meaningfully improve my life—certainly not enough that I can’t wait another year for a more significant upgrade.

The 48MP camera seals it for me but add in always on display and dynamic island and I'm even more in.

Keeping my 128 12 Pro. I got this warranty replacement a year or so ago and battery is at 89%. I’m going to replace the battery when it gets to 80%. Waiting for a redesign, different sizes and usb-c before I get a new one. I want a 256 Pro Max.

You are probably right about the Dynamic Island. I'm wondering why they didn't just leave it as a notch, but implement the same functionality.

ProMotion
Thinner display edges
Dynamic Island
Always on display
Brighter display
48mp/8k/4x zoom
A16 Bionic
Satellite function
Accident detection
Smaller (pro point for me, coming from an iPhone 12 Pro Max)
Other color / better black

enough for me ;)

Yep. But one thing that occurred to me is I wonder if the huge camera bump will interfere with the Belkin magsafe car mount that I've been using for two years. That would be a bummer.

Going from 12 Pro 128 to 14 Pro 128. Will miss the blue. Really liked the colour but I had it in a case since day one, so it doesn’t really matter.

Was really happy with my 12 Pro. Had no reason to upgrade. After all, I kept my 6S + until the 12 came out. Just wanted a new toy.

Battery health on my 12 is at 87% and don’t know why it dropped by so much. I had it since launch but tried to only charge it during the day for a few hours, rather than overnight. I still lasts me all day and more. I don’t always play with it and also have notifications set at a minimum, so screen rarely turns on.

looking forward to always on display, better camera (although I don’t take many picture, except when on vacation). I don’t get the hype with the display island. They are keeping this area black and adding things around it. It’s an optical illusion. Maybe I will understand it more once I play with it.

When I did the compare on Apple’s site between the 2 models, there’s not much difference.

I did 12P -> 14P but then I got an email telling me something went wrong and order got cancelled so now that the "morning rush" is gone I'll probably wait till 15. This one is paid off and even though the battery sucks I learned to live with it.

Keep in mind that the depreciation over the next year will be about the same whether you upgrade now or not. Spend around $200 annually on average to upgrade or take it in depreciation.

I had an open mind going into the event... but nothing I saw really impressed me enough to make me want to go through the hassle of moving to the new device, wiping the old and selling it or trading it in. I was perfectly willing to fork over cash, but except for the camera improvements the announcement was meh.

I'll almost certainly get the 15 next year even if the improvements are as simple as USB-C + Wifi 6E as by then my battery will be ready for replacement anyway and I'll have gotten 3 good years out of my device.

Will have to see real life camera performance... I usually keep my iPhones at least 4 or 5 years but I'm a photo enthusiast and 24mm is by far my favourite focal length, that might make me buy one this year.

I was still trying to decide between upgrading this year and not, almost right up until order time. I didn’t ‘need’ to upgrade, but the upgrade is a nice one with many improvements all over. I know it’s a ‘want’. I used to upgrade annually, so a 2 year gap already felt lengthy to me. I usually pass my used iPhones onto either of my two daughters as well so two of us benefit from one upgrade.

So with less than half an hour until order time, I decided to upgrade. I had been thinking about it constantly, so didn’t want to regret not upgrading at the release.

I’m going from a 512GB iPhone 12 Pro Max Pacific Blue to a 1TB iPhone 14 Pro Max Deep Purple. I have lots of games, photos and podcasts downloaded on my iPhone. 512GB has been great, but going step it up to 1TB as I know my podcast hoarding will creep up and the extra room and camera improvements will allow me to take great photos and videos of my two new cavoodle puppies.

Going from a 12PM 512 to a 14PM 512. I admit I wasn’t as excited for this year but the battery on the 12PM is starting to show its age. I know the 2K brightness feature is something I desperately need. There’s times I need to do things on my phone and the sun completely washes out my screen even with max brightness.

I'd say its a worthy upgrade given the carrier trade in deals and getting pro motion + always on display

12 Pro to 14 Pro... my battery life has sucked for awhile, and for someone like me that travels constantly for work, I'm so tired of dealing with it. Excited to see what the 14 brings!

Need to check in store, my last upgrade was 6s to 12 Pro which was 🤯
13 Pro was already interesting due to new camers features and ProMotion.
Let’s see if the 14 Pro camera will bring new issues (e.g. green dots at night are still a joke for a 1400€ phone with 14 Trillion operations / s 🤷🏻‍♂️)
