Fingers crossed it ain’t no bad batch of duff iPhones .
Sometimes those Apple reps that read canned responses sometimes don't know what they are doing. There is clearly a software or hardware problem here. I just find it odd it never does it when not charging. I'm going to wait until the update comes out early next week and if its not fixed ill call and demand a replacement. I've been checking the stores in my area and nothing in stock. Do they still have a website that can notify you when your model is in stock? I may just buy a new one and return this one rather deal with Apple reps.
yep. Or just utilize your 14 day return and rebuy.

Is this widespread ?

haven’t really used my 14pm with MagSafe charger yet but I suppose I will soon to see

Ill try the optimization off. I also cleaned the port but not sure if that will help since it happens on the mag charger. I hope the update next week fixes it. I could care les if I get a new one or refurb. I’ve had better luck with refurbs over the years and they are mint anyway.

I thought about returning this one and ordering a new one but I already traded my last phone in. I'm hoping they fix this with a software update and this entire issue goes away. I just turned off optimized battery charging to see if it helps at all since this issue only happens during charging. Maybe that's part of the problem? You can check stock with this website:

You’re too nice… I’m not patient like you so demanded a replacement right away. Lol
Something was clearly wrong, otherwise it wouldn’t be acting even slightly weird when brand new. They said they see no issues on their end. Ya right…

They even had the nerve to tell me I had to pay $35 for the shipping, or I can place another order which would’ve taken over a month to arrive. Asked for a senior manager and made them ship one right away. Even he asked if I had Apple care plus otherwise they normally charge for shipping. I literally said didn’t even have time to do that since it had been less than 24 hours since receiving it. Typical Apple.

It sounds like your phone had more issues than mine. I am not having any battery life or WiFi issues. I think I would have had a better chance at a replacement if I was having multiple problems. I would just go return it but no Apple stores near me have my configuration in stock and the order time for a new one is about a month. I'm going to give it a bit longer and if this issue continues after more software updates I will contact support again and tell them I need a replacement. Honestly it only seems to reboot when its idle and charging, it hasn't gotten to the point where my phone is unusable. If I am using the phone at work or home while charging it has not rebooted. I will continue to monitor.

Sorry if already mentioned but did you restore from backup or set up as new

the former can have all kinds of extra bugs

I restored from backup, it happened on 16.0.1 and the latest 16.1 beta. I wasn't having any problems on my 12 Pro. I could do a restore and start new but I really don't want to do that. I have way too many apps and things to setup on my phone and it would really be a nightmare and time consuming.

sure but I would just to isolate the issue
Particularly if you go replacement route and exhibits same thing.

I still had issues after completely wiping the device. I have done thousands of iTunes restore job. Never even once had an issue. Restoring from backup shouldn’t be any different than setup as new.

Setting up new is a nightmare for some of us power users. It would take me weeks or months to get everything back, 99% of these issue are either fixed by swapping out the phone or a software update. My backups have never been an issue. Ill turn off optimized charging and see if that changes anything. I also cleaned the port even though that doesn't change the fact it also happened on mag charger. I'll give it an update or too to see if I or others have improvement. I work in IT and support iPhones so I'm pretty knowledgeable of how this stuff woks.

Agreed. Every time I have an issue over the years Apple tells me to setup as new. I argue with them until they get me a replacement and the issue was resolved every time over the years. Not saying its impossible for a bad backup to cause issues but far more time is wasted setting up as new.

Same here, I have 342 apps on my phone. I also work in IT and all my friends and family come to me when they need tech support/advice so I am very knowledgeable when it comes to technology. I will see if it restarts overnight tonight while I am asleep and will report back. I have no idea if optimized charging is causing this, I am just trying to troubleshoot some ideas since the reboots only occur while charging.

I tried this earlier but it won't read the panic logs (Says none found). It detects my phone but that's it. I am thinking that needs an update for either the new iPhones and/or iOS 16. Or Apple has locked this down to the point where logs can't be read anymore by this program.

After turning optimized charging off and cleaning the port mine just randomly rebooted sitting here plugged in at my desk.

This might explain what happened to my wife's 14 Pro when she first got it. She plugged it in and started doing a transfer from her 12 Pro, and after a while we noticed that the phone was off, and when we turned it back on, it said that the transfer had failed and the phone would need to be reset, so she had to do it all over again.

16.0.2 was just released. Can you update and let me know if you are still having the reboots? I'm curious to know if this update will fix the rebooting.
