So, two months ago, got my new 14" and I noticed this issue (see first pic). As I am an OCD I couldn't settle on this, so raised the problem with my local Apple authorised reseller from where I purchased the laptop. First, he looked at me as if I was crazy and I guess he was thinking of calling the security Lolzz. Anyway, on insisting, a new screen was ordered and to my horror, it had the similar issue, a bit less obvious. Then I checked my friend's 14" unit and he had the same issue (last pic). So I have made my peace with this and think almost every piece out there has this issue and the ones who couldn't find in their units are either non-OCDs or "not looking at it right" :)

I'm basically in the same boat as you (OCD and all). After noticing this issue, I went to the local apple store and was told it could be sent in to a repair facility where they would decide if they would repair it.

If they did, it would be a full screen replacement like what you got. I passed on that (for now), because I worried I'd be gambling the fix of this issue for a possible issue with the new screen... or that the hinge would come back worse, or almost the same - like what as you experienced. (Super frustrating, I'm sorry it went like that.)

All of the store models I saw had this to varying degrees... so I know that it's "normal" and that someone somewhere in the manufacturing process said "ok, this is acceptable" - but I'm having a hard time with it because I use Macs for about 8 years in a go, and don't want to be bothered by this every day. All that said... I need a new one, so I'm not sure what to do - but will try to make my peace with it as you have.

(I was also considering calling Apple, explaining this, and seeing if they'll send me out a new computer. The one I have is a custom spec, so I know it'll be awhile before I can get it.)

Anyway, thanks for the post on this. Appreciate it.

On a side note, how do you address trim variances in regards to tolerances on your other day to day materialistic items that cost much more? Example, a new vehicle.

I am so sorry you had to go through this and I can totally understand your frustration. But believe me looking at your pics, your problem seems much less as compared to the ones shared in this thread. There are other variables in the screen like uniformity and possibility of dead pixels. If you don't have these other issues, I would suggest you keep your current screen as you don't know about the next one. Who knows if it comes with the same hinge strip problem in addition to others like this or this

I got a 16" recently, I think it is early March build, no issue, the strip is flat, there is no separation from the LCD
I just got a 16" recently too. Flat - no wave, moving finger along it shows no sign of movement. <shrug>.
