Uh, what? You do realize that the macOS user base is tiny compared to Windows users, who also use 1Password? Not to mention all the business/corporate users? If a Mac isn’t your primary device, Apple’s still very limited implementation doesn’t make sense.

1Password
- Paid software
- Doesn't control the hardware
- Doesn't control the operating system/ecosystem

Sorry, but it's not going to last, especially when the people who are thinking about switching over to passkeys are reevaluating where to store their passkeys for the future.

I like the idea of Apple passwords and have used it but have found that it’s out of sync between my devices for some reason!

So for that reason I’ll be sticking with 1password. I do agree their safari plug in is a bit flakey though

I've used 1Password for ages and increasingly find it frustrating, especially the Safari plugin. It's also absurdly overpriced for a Password manager. They made their choice to pursue a larger audience at the expense of the Mac product. I'll make the choice to let my sub expire.
Who are you replacing them with?

I actually tried 1password earlier this week and it was quite frustrating to setup on a Galaxy S23, iPad Pro 2020, Macbook and a gaming Pc with Win 11.
It took me a couple of hours.
This was my first try to test a password manager, so probably why it took so long.

When my 4 devices was finished, I discovered that on my MacBook, English was the system language, so I wanted to enable Swedish.
After that was done, the 1password was “lost” on my Mac.
I have to install it again, and enter the master key, password and the other stuff.

I ended the free trial and i wont try it again.
I use Safari keychain on iPad and my Mac, and Firefox keychain on my S23 and PC, and it’s easier and it works.

I was 1Password user before they moved to subscription. They was best password manager ever and everything just works so well and very nice looking too. Then they moved subscription so I moved to Bitwarden/Enpass.

I keep seeing online that quality 1Password gone down since move Electron.

Anyway 1Password wont be trouble or affected much by Apple new password manager since 1Password moved to business people (not average customer). They focusing on business for lot new features etc. If they was staying customer people then they could be in trouble.

I will be trying out Apple password manger since I already use keychain.

Wait what do you mean? I have a bunch of yubikeys that work for Bitwarden and windows including logging in.also works great on MacOS
Instead of entering my master password to sign in, I just want to be able to enter my yubikey and tap it and sign in.

Same thing on a new device. I have enter my info, put my password in, then when it goes to log in I currently have to insert my yubikey.

I just wish I could just enter my username then insert my yubikey, enter the pin and tap and sign in without all the other steps.

How many accounts can be hosted off one computer with a few terabytes of data on it? Im sure it's pretty cheap so if they don't lower their prices drastically over the next 5 years they wont be around much longer than that. They lost me when that went to the cloud, I still use their older version because my passwords do not go through the internet to get saved who knows where and I don't have to pay every month for it. Hopefully more local and encrypted password managers will start being made as an alternative to the cloud strategy.
Don’t go thru the cloud … but only as far as you know.

People say they will ditch 1Password for apples password app, which is fine if they like, but protecting your most valuable data ever may be better managed by a company that specializes in one thing which is passwords and security, rather than Apple, who could be dabblers in that field.
How does Apple "dabble" in the area of account security?

I'll stick with 1Password.. Apple is years behind them in functionality. If Apple is serious about passwords, they need anywhere from 3-4 years to catch up.
If all you want is Passwords, Passkeys, OTP and 2FA, you are probably fine with the Apple App and it is a great tool for getting people a bit more secure.

If you want to share cross platform, non-family, have profiles for autofill, secure doc storage (passports, Drivers license, ), fill credit card details, use tags and categories, have multiple vaults, have a travel mode, secure notes, info templates and plenty more.. 1PW is the best available.

Never using the Apple password manager, don’t want to take the chance of getting locked out of both my phone and passwords by some Apple “increased” security initiative.

Exactly this ^

I'm surprised they haven't introduced another susbcription tier for this. Surely they're missing out on another revenue stream?

That's the part of this I find hilarious

So many seem to think that "Tim Cook Apple", which is out and out all about increasing services revenue, is somehow going to get deep into this space and not charge a subscription ...

Be mighty careful with that assumption folks

If Apple makes a standalone windows app (doubt they would). I’d consider it.

I use 1Password to make the passwords then copy and paste the passwords into my apple device so I don’t always have to open 1Password while on my phone or Mac.

1Password is always used on my windows desktop and it’s convenient. I also use it for some 2fa codes.

I don’t store any passwords in my desktop browsers. Ever. So if Apple makes it so if you’re using windows and it just imports them to the browser, I definitely won’t switch from 1Password.

Same here. I never store passwords in any browser so Apple would need a standalone app made for Windows for me to consider their password manager.

Because Keychain is only useful for macOS users and KeePassXC has no reputation (as in the typical consumer has no idea what that is).
You can also use Keychain on Windows. So that covers most stationary PCs/Notebooks. And for Android, well they should just throw that **** out of the windows and get a proper device.
