The X1300 is not a removable card; it is built into the Xserve.

Ha !

I discovered the source of some confusion.

There were 3 different versions of X1300 in X-Serve. Original one was 32 Meg version in 2006 built in on a "Mezzanine" card. There was an optional 64 Meg upgrade (Woo ! Big Time !!)

When the 2008 X-Serve came out they made a separate GPU PCIE slot and included a 64 Meg PCIE X1300. I know this for a fact because one of my suppliers cleverly stuck me with half a dozen of these Mini Boat Anchors. (Still have them...can you say "Hot Potato"?)

So, some folks can easily remove and replace, others are stuck with card that doesn't have drivers after 10.7.5.

Is there anything else on that card? Could it be removed?

So the 2008 has EFI32 or EFI64? The X1300 won't care as it is EBC.

My mistake. The Xserve I own is a 2006 Xserve with 32 bit EFI. The 2008 Xserve actually has 64 bit EFI. These are the machines that Jamal owns - simple .plist edits and a PCIe GPU to get it running Yosemite. He helped me quite a bit when I was first setting this up. I wasn't aware they ever made a removable X1300. AFAIK, the Xserve that requires the boot.efi mod is the 2006 Xserve. Mine has 64MB of Video Memory, and is for sure "built in" to the Xserve via the Mezzanine bus.

Here is your problem. That machine has a 64bit EFI. You should not be using these modified boot.efi files. They are for machines with a 32bit EFI. The only Xserve with a 32bit EFI is the 2006.

The reason it does not support Mavericks or Yosemite is simply because of the GPU.

It seems we have gotten to the bottom of it. rvgulik, if you want Yosemite on your Xserve, you'll just need to modify the platform support.plists that you were doing before. Ignore the whole "boot.efi" replacement. Grab yourself a supported PCIe GPU (see the thread at the top of this forum for a guide if you're unsure - modern NVIDIA GPUs are by far the easiest), and you'll be on your way. Always the long conversations for the simple solutions. :D:D

1. Installed Yosemite on the drive
2. Edited the PlatformSupport.plist in /System/Library/CoreServices/ and added the board-ID of the Xserve early 2008 2,1 (Mac-F42289C8)
3. Saved the file
4. Repaired permissions
5. Connected the drive to the xserve and booted
6. Running Yosemite now
7. Rebooted
8. It starts with Yosemite
9. Party time

Now the only thing is to get a new graphics card.

Which one do you recommend? And should i take out the X1300?

Update :

OK i just installed the 10.10.2 update and changed the PlatformSupport.plist
Everything is running!

@MacVidCards do you have the GT120 which is ok to use in my system, i will need two of them because i want to update the other 2008 xserve too. And do you ship to the Netherlands?

Great news, all. It seems that Apple has relaxed their iMessage policies. From what I can tell, you should all be able to sign into iMessage on your 1,1 Mac Pros without getting the iMessage Error Code message telling you to contact support.

Yes this happened over the weekend of Feb 14th which is right around when Apple enabled two-factor authentication for iMessage. All of the sudden all hackintoshes with a properly setup MLB and ROM could login. My one hackintosh that uses completely generated values logged right in. My other hackintosh that I had called to have white-listed still logged in and just asked me if I wanted to setup two-factor authentication.

I've been using the MLB from an old water damaged MacBook I purchased for parts. Still running strong with those values. Just signed into my 1,1 at work with no issue. I'll try my other hacks tonight. Very, very happy to have iMessage again.

I generated my MLB values using a tool post in an InsanelyMac thread.

So, it doesn't see a bootable install/OS there.

So something is wrong. Your best bet is going to be to dig through this thread and find someone with same problem.

You have to understand that "I did everything right but it doesn't work" is a difficult thing to diagnose remotely. Something either with the physical USB stick or your implementation isn't kosher, or hasn't followed past users.

I redid the USB and tried both SFOTT and Pike. It will not boot. I then went out and purchased a new 128GB USB drive and created new keys. ? folder then back into 10.7.5 I followed the directions to the key and reverified with the YouTube video. I tried with both a Mavericks boot and then a Yosi boot. Not working.

I am familiar with building computers and components. I've been doing this for years. I've already upgraded the graphics card to the ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB, SSD HD and processor upgrade to 2,1.

For the life of me, I have no idea why the damn USB drive is not booting.. Tried two different USB drives. One brand new, not booting. I swear, for the last two weeks, I've been banging my head against the wall trying to figure out what the deal is here…..

No System Profiler, Preview app, etc

Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated. I recently upgraded to Yosemite on my 2006-07 Mac Pro using the pre-patched Yosemite installer. I previously used Tiamo's boot efi to install Mountain Lion with wonderful results. The installation was relatively smooth aside from some switching GPUs back and forth. Interestingly, with Yosemite currently installed, my stock Nvidia (that wouldn't work with ML)works (though very slow). My problem now is my "About this Mac" no longer launches, nor do Preview, Audio Midi Utility, or Facetime. I'm unable to see if my ram is being recognized because I no longer have System Profiler launching. Did I miss a step?
