It isn't odd. It is well documented that the default OS X Nvidia driver does not support Maxwell based GPUs (750,750ti,9xx). You must have the web drivers installed for them to work. I have the same situation on my hackintosh so it has nothing to do with it being a Mac Pro 1,1 or using a modified boot.efi.

If you want a card that just works and is still a mid-range card the GTX 570 is a good choice.

BINGO !

Exactly.

And in fact, once you get Yosemite working on a 1,1 or 2,1 you are just as able to apply the video cards mentioned in the sticky above about using Non-EFI video cards in a Mac Pro.

You are in fact on the same footing as a 2012 5,1 with Dual 3.46Ghz 6-Cores. You can use the exact same cards, they will just be more limited by the PCIE 1.0 bus. But as far as "which card works with which OS and which web driver" everything is equally applicable.

Once you have a stable and working Mavericks or Yosemite install, you can use the same Web Drivers (though they may be harder to install) and end up running all of the fantastic new low power/high performance cards Nvidia has to offer.

Should I do a fresh installation of Yosemite, maybe using another installer (not SFOTT) ? or does anybody know another solution to this?

Should I do a fresh installation of Yosemite, maybe using another installer (not SFOTT) ? or does anybody know another solution to this?

Why do you have the NullCPUPowerManagement.kext installed? That is a KEXT for hackintoshes and it might be the cause of your issue.

Hi - thanks - completely forgot about that kext - I installed it (a while ago) because I read somewhere, that if the mac crashes while the CPU idles (which was pretty much the case most of the time) this would help - but it made no difference - and would you say that - considering my last panic report on the previous page - my flashed hd5770 may be a problem too?

but anyway, I'll try if there is any difference without the kext, the extra RAM and on my stock Graphics ...

i can't start my mac with The recovery HD.

Any1 eles hav the same problem?

As far as I know, booting from the Startup Manager no longer works (i.e., pressing Alt at boot time and then selecting the Recovery Partition). Pressing Cmd-R, however, should work just fine, provided you've changed the boot.efi in the Recovery Partition.

Highest windows version

I managed to upgrade my Mac Pro 1,1. Thanks everybody. I even installed Windows on a separate hard drive (Sorry if this offends someone.) But what's the highest Windows version one can install on a Mac Pro 1,1 with boot efi hack?

Thanks!

Have those who have installed Yosemite on a 2006 MP had any issues with their USB ports not working but were working when they were on Lion? I created a thread about it here.

To give a quick run down, the USB ports work on Lion but as soon as Mavericks or Yosemite (what i'm using now) is installed they stop working. If it helps, the USB ports work from the boot chime to the loading screen (apple logo and the loading bar).

Cheers

There are a few in this thread that have had that issue but I don't think a resolution has been posted. It is likely a KEXT that is being loaded and causing an issue. Are you booting with the boot-arg="kext-dev-mode=1"?

The boot.efi has nothing to do with Windows so you could install any version of Windows you want from XP to 8.1. I always stuck with Windows 7 on my Mac Pro but the boot camp drivers do work in 8.1 so your Apple keyboard will function fine with all the media keys and the eject button.

Yeah, i had already commented in this thread about it and you suggested using that and repairing the permissions, but it didn't work.

All my USB's work under Mavericks and Yosemite on my 1,1 flashed to 2,1.

That's strange then. When i installed Mavericks i went through Tiamo's version and for Yosemite i used the pre-patched version. I'm totally baffled.

No USB issues whatsoever on a 1,1 flashed to 2,1.

Either with Mav or Yose.

Have you removed all USB devices to be sure it isn't a conflict?

The BT card is also on USB bus and the WiFi card has USB wires running to it as well.

Ah, there are no USB devices plugged in but i never realised BT was part of it. What do you suggest to test that? Will turning off bluetooth be enough or does the module have to be removed?

Also, come to think of it, my wireless card stopped working too when i upgraded to Yosemite, but i put that down to it being incompatible rather than an issue.

One thing I noticed since I reinstalled Yosemite a few days ago on my 1,1: in 10.9.5 (which I clean installed over 10.10 somewhere in february), I always got the "iPhone not charging" error, eventhough it was charging (usually plugged in one the front ports). I figured no biggie, at least the iPhone was charging. In Yosemite, the message is completely gone. I don't know why it happened in Mavericks, but at first I thought the iPhone wasn't getting a proper amount of juice from the usb port - it did charge slowly, but now that my error message is gone and that my iPhone is charging actually faster, I'm baffled :)

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 (flashed firmware to a 2,1) and I'm running Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 9926 in a Boot Camp partition, with the latest version of the Boot Camp drivers, and I'm not having any problems with it. Actually seems to run better on the Mac than it does on a true blue PC. :)

Just got home now and tested this. I removed the BT and the wireless card and the USB ports are working.

I have a USB BT dongle somewhere and i'm going to try that to see if i can get it working so i can use my mouse/keyboard and still have USB functionality.

This entire Yosemite install/USB issue has completely blagged my head but i think i'm getting somewhere now.

So it seems there is a hardware conflict with the BT or most likely the Wifi card that causes USB to not function. All of my USB always worked and I had a factory installed BT card but I did not get WiFi when I ordered my Mac Pro back in 2006.

You're welcome

Most computer issues can be solved through steady logic. My old friend Spock taught me that.

Yeah it seems it was a conflict with the BT and the Wifi card. I've now removed the wifi card and everything is working perfectly.

Thanks to both of you for the help!

Pike's boot with OS 7.5

Hello,

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 running Lion and would like to install the Pike's boot with Lion. Can this be done and then update to Yosemite?

Using a Geforce 8800 gt.

Thanks

The Pike boot.efi has never been tested and nor was it designed to work with Lion.

Just build a Yosemite installer and you can upgrade your Lion install. The 8800GT will work fine.

Why would you want to do that? The 1,1 runs Lion natively without any issue whatsoever.
