managed to get a working 10.10.4 by de the bless method though it won't reboot correctly each time
could it be that when the fix script makes the mac double boot (re write the boot, refi) it get's unblessed each time ? Meaning we have to start via external disk, terminal over and bless and then come back ??
can one of the guru's have a look at this wild guess and eventually include it in the fix ?

My 1,1 runs 10.10.4 with no problems. The pikeyosefix does not cause the behavior here.

The script also doesn't make the Mac double boot. It replaces the boot.efi file before it shuts down or restarts.

and its done! SSD and gtx960 on Yos10104 running well, thanks for all support. would be useful to add to the first page that for some gpus preinstalled web drivers are necessary to boot to OS, otherwise it won't even boot in non-accelerated mode

update to 10.10.4 successful on Mac Pro 2,1 (upgraded 1,1)
with ASUS 7750 1GB DDR5.

Just had to reinject old graphics driver to fix similar issue regarding screen artefacts due to removed legacy drivers.
For a fix including the necessary files, please see my post #3241

best,

Does anyone else have issues with their superdrive? When trying to burn a disc with Toast the program doesn't detect an available disc drive

Mine would lose the superdrive all the time, then I removed an old PCIe serial port card and its been all good ever since.
Have no idea why that solve the issue.

I have installed two blu-ray burning drives and I only can use one of them. On Mavericks I could use both.

I randomly get a notification that an empty disk was inserted even though the drive is empty. Under Mavericks I could solve this problem by disabling the sleep mode of the computer.

Best regards,

David

Well, I downloaded the Yosemite installer twice from the App store and I assume it is the 10.10.4 installer. Version of installer shows 1.6.30. Following the instructions in the Guide for installing Yosemite, I keep running into the "InstallESD.dmg" file failing checksum and refusing to mount. I can mount it without the checksum running but then when trying to restore "BaseSystem.dmg" by Disk Utility it refuses as it says the disk image is corrupt!! Has anyone trued to create a thumb drive installer from this version of the Yosemite installer? I've tried everything I know of including trying to do this with root privileges but no luck...

Updated to 10.10.4 without any issues (i have PikeYosFix). Since updating, I swear things are taking a little longer. For e.g. Launching/closing apps or logging in or out. Used to be silky smooth under 10.10.3 but there's a pause now (some times beach ball's for a few secs). Not that bad i know, just slightly annoying. iTunes is definitely slower, especially syncing to my iPhone.

is Imessage and Facetime problem worth separate thred? I phoned "apple care" and they said it is unblocked now, but it is still acting in the same way as before "unblock", i've noticed there are a few people with the same problem. It is not clear if they are deliberatly lying that it's unblocked it or there was staff error or the problem is on my side somewhere. It took me 15minutes to phone through, and then another 40minutes to stay onhold while waiting for "the manager descision" to allow "unblocking".

Do you keep iTunes running all the time? I was seeing the same issues and it turned out that there is some kind of a memory leak when iTunes is in song view mode (not present when in artist or album view mode). I prefer song view, so iTunes had gobbled up all of my RAM and brought the system to its knees. Things seem back to normal after switching to album view in iTunes (or quitting it except when in use, of course).

rebooted today as the sys was running for quite some time and a reboot from time to time (had several updates) doesn't harm (usually)

and again beachballing after the apple logo disappears and you are supposed to get the progress bar

did something weird as I even re blessed the folder/file as mentioned earlier in this post with no luck

we know our systems are supposed obsolete because the basic graphic cards are not 64 bit ...

i pulled out the second screen and booted on main screen only and tataaaaa it starts up normal ..

waited the full process and just popped the screen back in card ...

guess this sin't to good for the card but at least it worked this time to get back up

my card : ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB
my main screen is the 30" apple display
second screen a LG 20" thingy

not going to test 10 times to be sure it is but maybe it can help someone else

This not the reason. The basic graphic cards don't support the OpenCL needed for Mavericks and Yosemite. But, the reason they were made obsolete is because of the 32bit EFI Rom on the board that can't boot a 64bit kernel. 10.8+ are 64bit only.

My Imessage was unblocked and worked perfectly for about 4 months then one day I couldn't send messages. I was on the phone with an apple Tech and we did basically everything with no luck. I still haven't figured it out. All the other Icloud/apple accounts work fine though.

Apple changed their restrictions with iMessage the weekend of February 14th, 2015. It started working with all Hackintoshes even without having to call Apple.

Updated to 10.10.4 without mishap. I am ever so grateful to those who have worked so hard to allow us to continue to use our beloved 1,1/2,1 machines.

Hi, slightly off topic as I already have Yosemite running on a flashed 2006 mac pro 1,1 to mac pro 2,1 but I'm interested to know if turning on file vault 2 on my system would impact the ability to update the piker-alpha boot.efi? Should I be okay to do so? Many thanks for all the community support for keeping these old gray macs running :).

Cheers!
