WOW! With that boot.efi from your latest post, my Mac Pro 1,1 boots up to a MINUTE faster at around 50-55 seconds!

And my HDD isn't even that modern cache-wise (will get SSD when the time is right!). GREAT! <3

I have a sub 25 second boot with a Seagate SSHD. That's from chime till everything that is supposed to launch at startup is loaded.

All Hail Tiamo !!!

Wherever he may be.

Kind of reminds me of someone rescuing folks from a burning building then vanishing before the press shows up.

In any case, thanks as well to the fine people who continued his work and made this happen.

Just booted my 2,1 for first time into Yose. It rebooted once, but I have seen that before.

Something I find remarkable, there is a a new version of Expansion Slot Utility in the OS.

It is only needed on 1,1/2,1 and we are now 3 OSs after "supported" for these machines yet someone keeps updating that app. Pretty amazing. (would also suggest that they either have a Boot.efi mod of their own in Cupertino or an EFI64 1,1/2,1)

The other amazing thing is I think these will be the oldest machines to support Handoff/Continuity. I used one of our 94360CD WiFi cards in it and BINGO !!!

Full support.

These are amazing machines. Thanks again to the people who did this. Looking forward to the "Non-Verbose" version too.

Now that is interesting. When you say updating I wonder how much work is actually going into it. I have version 1.5.1 also…….

I imagine not much but it is hard to say. It is also 1.5.1 in 10.9.4. IIRC there is an earlier version in 10.8 or 10.9.

But I would love to know how it is tested these days.

Me too. I’m still really pissed about this 64bit box not being 64bit as advertised.

What an interesting observation! FWIW it's version 1.5 in Lion, so it got updated to 1.51 post-Lion...

Would you know if AMD Radeon R9 280X cards are currently the best graphics cards that are flashable with EFI EBC firmware for boot screens on a Mac Pro 1,1/2,1? If not, what is? Do you know if the MSI Global 6GB R9 280X is flashable and which ports work? And, lastly, does your flashing service include the PCIe power cables?

Pike has just posted on his blog and seems to have completed the final mac osx boot loader version and is asking for feedback from the community. If someone has the ability to compile the files quickly and link the boot.efi here, I would be happy to assist.

Freshly baked boot.efi

I've just compiled this (after adding a couple of semicolons in C++ declarations) from Pike's source code.

Please, verify that your old Mac Pros keep booting in Yosemite GM2/Beta 5.

Boots just fine though aesthetically, it is no different then the "silly"/previous build.

In fact, while being a relatively small measurable difference, the "silly" build might have booted just a tad bit faster.

In the next few minutes I'll have go leave my computer for a couple of hours. In case Pike adds more patches to his code, it would be a good idea for someone else to compile his code and post it here. Cheers.

I'll be around and just booted up my VM and compiled this one. I'll keep an eye out for any other commits and compile them.

...seems to "hang" on the initial left of center "hyphen" a second or two longer then the previous build.

Latest version: compiled as x86 Release
Changes: non-verbose boot

Nice relatively fast boot. Aesthetically, the back screen/white apple icon appeared coupled with a slower white scroll/loading bar of what I assume to be during/instead of verbose boot..no hyphen whatsoever. It then switched over to an identical/same black screen while apple and a swifter white scroll loading bar to the Yosemite log in screen.

Same here. The non-verbose version works with my MBP2,2. It shows a white Apple logo & white progress bar on a black background (GPU is ATI X1600). Works with the Installer as well as the installed Yosemite.

Pike asks btw if someone can make a Youtube movie of the system booting up with the new Boot.efi. Unfortunately I don't have a Youtube account ....

Can't wait to try this out. My 1,1 is a production machine, so I'll have to do it on a spare drive. Soonest I can do is Saturday, but I'll record when I can. No problem. Thanks to everyone who's assisted with the project, keep these machines alive!

I've got lots of video equipment to record/edit but I guess it's not very useful without a flashed GPU. :(

Compiled from latest sources and it works a bit differently than previous posters reported. Gray background, no Apple logo, white progress bar. Made the movie (crappy one ;)): http://youtu.be/dLfQGIFQ7KI.

Edit: found the issue - my fault. Video deleted.

Do you have an EFI graphics card? Not having one might explain why you don't see the black screen with the Apple logo along with the progress bar. I do have an EFI graphics card, but I can't boot my computer until next Wednesday at the earliest.
